All things considered, it is impressive how they handled Paul's death in the middle of production, but it is noticeable that his death had a effect on the plot and the handling of his character. Its odd how at a certain point, Brian becomes more of a background character and doesn't talk as much. Seeing as Dom and Brian are typically the two brains and leaders of the group, it was odd how Dom suddenly became the final word while Brian just looked on. Still, what else could they have done? While the CGI covering for Paul isn't distracting or bad, its just noticeable. Especially with how after awhile any scene involving him is quick cut ways, shadows or quick shots of a his face and no dialogue. Great movie overall.

For someone who hasn't seen any of the previous movies in the Fast and the Furious franchise, I got to say that Furious 7 did an outstanding job keeping the story going in a way that allows new viewers to follow from where things were left off in the last movie. Because of this, I was able to understand the plot of this movie, like the characters and enjoy the fun humor and the wild and energetic action scenes. Paul Walker is such a wonderful hero in this movie. He'll be deeply missed. 5/5 stars.

Honestly, for me, you can't just say...."Well this movie is supposed to be dumb so you can't really criticize it." No, Sharknado is not a good movie just because it accomplished what it set out to do. If you try to make a bad movie it's still a bad movie. I digress, but the Fast and Furious movies don't get a pass just because they mindless fun

I almost agree. In terms of a high quality triple A movie, I don't think the excuse counts, but sometimes I'll make exceptions. The only example I can think of at the moment is the anime, Gurren Lagaan. Probably not the best example, but it was a pretty "dumb show", which was the intention.

Michael McCallister To Gurren Lagann's credit, it also lampooned itself with the fact that most of what was occurring in the action was ludicrous, as well as taking jabs of trends that permeate the giant mecha anime genre.

bostonmillertv Is this coming from someone who loved the Transformers movies, and is irritated others don't feel the same way? Lol, this isn't really the same, T4 was full of horrible writing and endless explosions to fill time, they at least try with these movies but they are more of a guilty pleasure thing that people see just for the awesome cars that don't talk and aren't racist and stereotypical.
@bryandowling4592
@bryandowling4592 9 жыл бұрын
bostonmillertv Well the action is well filmed in the F&F franchise, and they have likeable characters. All the Transformers films are the same film done 4 [soon to be 5] times. Autobots and Decepticons fight over "insert plot device", while we follow through the POV of our hero, and there is government BS. At least F&F change up their plot, even if some elements feel similar.
@Hound-Fox
@Hound-Fox 9 жыл бұрын
Wayne Cox Oh I like dumb movies like expendables 2 for example. But the recent FF are just mediocre even for 'dumb action movies'. I'm one of those people that actually really enjoyed the first few FF movies because they had a clear identity: Street Racing. It really came down to this but also the characters weren't cartoons like in the newer movies. Plus the plot also made way more sense back then. But now all of this has been thrown out of the window for over-the-top action sequences... So yeah, as a fan of the old FF-movies I just cannot possibly like the newer movies... You like them? Good for you, but to me they're absolute trash...

Both franchises fit into the "explosion porno" category but the difference is the Fast & Furious movies have passable acting, great chemistry between the principal actors and dialogue that doesn't make your ears bleed. The Transformers films have none of these things. At least I can see that the F&F films are putting effort into the elements that don't involve explosions, crashes and fistfights.

Good luck with making 7 Fast and Furious movies mainly focused on street racing. They have to escalate to other levels in order to maintain the franchise alive and to keep making money. These movies make money. And even though they exaggerate a lot, these movies get more fun by doing crazy things and introducing new characters.

i guess because of james wan, james wan has never done action since he is a horror director, so his directing is nothing or slick as what justin lin did, and the plot had trouble because of paul walker's tragedy so they had to do a second plot line so they could pay respects for walker's send off, but all the plot and writing for all fast movies suck so it doesn't really matter, the only good writing is the witty one liners and jokes throughout the movie that makes it work with the dumb over-the-top action xD

You'd be surprised at the analyses that can be done for the franchise as a whole. I've been a fan of the franchise from the beginning and enjoyed almost all of the films immensely. Now, yes the physics engine might be different from that of the real world and characters may behave differently from real people but it works because they are consistent with it. How is that any different from, say, a well done anime? Good action scenes, memorable characters, and an engaging plot that now spans 6 (debatably 7) films. I couldn't ask for more from an action movie franchise.

Shurue The difference is that F&F is supposed to be grounded in reality. It's not an anime or a superhero movie where you know people are sorta superhuman. They are still driving real cars and they are real people who can die from a bullet wound...so I disagree. It does differ. What I agree with is that they are good movies for what they are. They are meant to be over the top and cheesy. I just think it'd be nice if they didn't have these regular humans doing Captain America shit because it kinda kills the tension.... once characters can dive from cart to car in mid air and survive explosions, you can't really feel like the characters are truly in danger.
@shurue8628

There are plenty of settings based in the real world with an unrealistic twist. What determines the quality of that twist is whether or not it is consistent with itself throughout the work. In this case, it is.

Shurue Maybe now with the last 3 movies, but if you go back to the first maybe 4 movies, it wasn't nearly this over the top. It had its moments but now it's crazy. So no, it hasn't been consistent.

I actually liked the hand to hand combat. The first fight with the Rock vs Jason was shot really well in my opinion. It was clear and there were some awesome camera angles. One 6 second shot going 360 around them as they fight was the highlight and I also liked how the camera spinned when the Rock fell with the armchair. Pretty cool to be honest. Anyway, I liked every fast and furious movie and this one is no exception. They are no masterpieces but I am never bored and that's what matters to me.

Man it became progressively harder for me to keep the suspension of disbelief through out this one, even for post Rock Furious standards this was freaking ridiculous, but still enjoyed it though. Seriously, if in the next one they end up riding on top of a nuclear misslile trying to defuse it while fighting robot Korean wheeled ninjas it wouldn't surprise me not one bit after this one.

Quick note, "high frame rate" refers to the number of frames per second. What I think you mean in describing the action is "high shutter speed" or "high shutter angle" which refers to how long each frame is exposed. A higher shutter speed will lead to a more jerky look which you see in basically every action movie since Saving Private Ryan.

I personally enjoy very much this film, but there are some issues that I would like them to fix for possible future films. The first as Chris said is that the camera and the editing in some actions scenes was very dizzy. Very quick editing and quick camera movements that finally had me with a small headache, you can't almost see what's happening as the camera was moving very fast and the shots were very short with a very quick montage. Other issue is the plot in general, i didn't like very much the fact that they deal with the "goverment" and all the stuff with the God's eye and all the technology that was in the film. I personally prefer the plots (and the films) of the 5 and 6, as they are criminals working for whatever they want (despite in 6 they deal with Hobbs, it's not the same as they are still criminals working for what they want). Finally I will say that I also wanted more The Rock in the film but the plot leave him out almost all the film. Despite all this complains, I have to say that I really enjoyed this film, is in the way of the 5 and 6 but I think not as good as them. 7.5/10 (sorry if my english is not perfect, I'm a 17 years-old boy from Spain)

According to a number of rumors I read throughout the shooting of this movie, the reason why The Rock was in so little of the movie was because, originally, he wasn't suppose to be in it that much. Due to scheduling conflicts with "Hercules", he was only going to drop in for a cameo (probably in the whole beginning fight scene), then the Kurt Russell character was there to kind of take his place. But after the Paul Walker tragic, there was more time to film, so he was reinserted back into the film (which also explains why many of his scenes are separate from the rest of the crew until the very end).

I really agree with you on the review. I've been wanting to see Fast 7 for a long time now and actually avoided watching this review up until after I saw it. Last night we finally watched it and I agree on all your points. The action scenes were intense in the fact that I didn't know where to focus. There was a hell of an overload of images going on. I wish those scenes where handled a bit smoother. My favourite characters where The Rock and Jason Statham. They both kick ass.

The Furious franchise wasn't supposed to be big and dumb. They started out great, car culture-centric, emotional, accurate, and had really nicely fleshed out characters. They went from some of the greatest gearhead movies in history to one of the biggest degraded, dumbed down one-liner filled Hollywood money making fests the world has seen. Any fan of the franchise will tell you that while yes, it's "fun," it's less than a shadow of a shadow of it's former self.

While I don't agree with the ultimate grade, I do understand Chris' points and agree that the Rock and Statham's under-utilization were unfortunate in context of the plot. I honestly couldn't tell at points when Paul was real vs CGI, except for the ending, but I still congratulate the crew and his family for the amazing effort. That alone makes this my favorite in the series. It was never going to be perfect, and it truthfully didn't need to be. The goal was mainly to have fun and celebrate Paul for "one last ride".

The Rock was filming Hercules at the time, hence his lack of screentime. They actually added the scenes with his daughter and the minigun scene at the end after Paul Walker died since they had more time to produce the film.

I enjoyed this movie and was having fun watching it up until the final major action sequence in their home city. Which lasted WAY too long and was nothing more than a massive explosion fest that made it hard to tell what was going on. To me, this entire climax was silly and corny. The whole city was pretty much destroyed and hundreds of lives were lost but that of course is completely disregarded and the heroes go about their way. Also, did anybody else find it completely ridiculous when Dom fell down that huge cliff in the car and walked out with hardly a scratch on him. But at the end he almost died because his car fell a story off a parking garage? I mean come on. Way too many inconsistencies throughout the film. I know it's just a fun action movie and not really meant to be taken seriously and analyzed but still. It was a bit ridiculous at times.

I really enjoyed this movie- the chemistry between Vin Diesel ad Michelle Rodriguez is amazing, and a renewed focus on their relationship fills in the heart of the group that Walker's Brian really brought to the role (I feel he gets undue credit for that). The send off for Walker is perfect, and yes, the plot does get convoluted, I think that is a big strength for the movie- *minor spoilers ahead* - they are hired by some sort of CIA type (Mr. Nobody, perfectly played by Kurt Russell) and I am not surprised that a CIA plan is crazy convoluted, it felt real, in a sense- *end spoilers* I do agree about the hand-to-hand combat though, as it was too edited a lot of the time. James Wan's sense of atmosphere and location, which have served him so well in his horror flicks, is immediately clear here, as each scene is dripping with atmosphere. However, Justin Lin handled the group dynamic a bit better for me- Roman was too much of a clown this go round, etc. Overall, great fun, fitting send off, very recommended,

I have not seen the movie yet but I loved this review. Chris sat back and enjoyed teh film for what it was - dumb fun summer blockbuster. Chris also not only mentioned the problems with filming w/o Paul Walker as a warning but also as a credit to the filmmakers for making the best of a terrible situation. A lesser critic would have gone full out on one side of that fence or the other; blasting the plot and CGI Walker or forgiving it completely because of the situation. Kudos, Mr. Stuckmann

So, was the film fun? Yes!!! However it wasn't that great being honest. I know we wanna be nice and I would be if they ended the franchise here with this cast!!! However, this seems to be a money grab let's put out Fast 8 and 9. Hell even if they both flop they will most likely make a Fast 10. The issue is the following films will be utter trash compared to this film. While this film seems broken due to Paul Walker's death, it still had the chemistry of Brian and Dom that made this franchise a franchise!!!! 1 and 4 are my favorite films followed by 6,5, and 7. Notice what the bottom two films are the ones without Paul and Vin. I could get behind going back to street racing and making a new cast from the ground up. This is why I put Tokyo Drift above 2F2F. A relaunch even if it failed would be better than seeing this group being remembered for a horrible film!!!! Let's face it whatever they did this film was doomed but it was a tragedy once the film was already in production. Making another will be a choice and if you wanna believe oh its what Paul would want fine. But I'm sure he would rather them make a quality product. It won't be and that is that. They need to make a relaunch go back to pure street racing build a new cast!!! Have Dom and Letty if you wanna keep some of the original cast in it running the local garage. But I would prefer go back complete new cast and hope magic happens like the first film!!!

I agree with the grade but think the review is a little unfair. Sure, there were like 2 or 3 scenes with a CGI Paul Walker, but they were so quick that for 99.9% of the movie it was virtually unnoticable and didnt hinder anything in the least. It also didnt seem to hold back the plot at all; nothing felt convoluted or confusing even for a minute. Plus, the Rock didnt HAVE to be in it that much, and the fact that he wasnt actually worked to the film's benefit bc it helped make the final act more exciting. The only setback I saw was the somewhat wooden acting by Jordana Brewster and a Michelle Rodriguez in a few scenes, but it was easily forgivable bc the movie was just so fun and exciting.

this is not my guilty pleasure, I have the opposite opinion about this franchise, loved the first and second one but by the third they just fell off movie by movie and now its a silly barely watchable action raump its an opinion but this movie was much sillier and more incoherent than the need for speed movie, it wasn't directed as well as that movie and had far less impressive action scenes, and you gave it a C and this one a B. I dont want to question your rating method and I realize this franchise is your guilty pleasure, but man I think you kind of snuffed need for speed.
