STORY TIME! I’ve been making my first fursuit for the past month now and I’ve officially gotten my first fursuit horror story.. So I was making the eyes using some thick craft foam and buckram using my hot glue gun, me and my mom were kinda just talking and everything was chill while I waited for this one eye to cool down. And suddently we just hear a really loud bang! We both turned to the glue gun to see some very small sparks from the explosion, and grey smoke coming out the back where the glue stick was. We didn’t panic but it was the first time we had ever seen a glue gun explode so it was pretty shocking. Luckily, nothing caught on fire as it didn’t explode enough to cause that..but it is safe to say my mom tried plugging it in a few days later to see if it worked, and it didn’t heat up at all. R.I.P glue gun ??? (It was fairly old maybe 9 years) - 2020

lucky that it didn´t started a fire, i had a similar story i was in my craft classes(I don´t go anymore because the teacher got hurt),we were some girls in the room making a craft that the teacher explained us,there was a moment that i went with the teacher so she could help me when suddenly we hear a bang and it was the hot glue gun that explode

At the start of a makeup class exam, I once gave myself a second degree burn on the pad of my dominant hand index finger. I didn't have time to do anything but drop the crepe hair and go to the brushes. Aside from the pain of using the finger to do fine brushwork while the blister formed, if went great!

While I'm not a fursuit maker, I do make small wire sculptures using different wires that can be from 0.7 to around 5mm thick. So one time I was making a dolphin for a ocean project and I was using the thinner wire to help me fill out part of the frame and I was so into my work that I didn't notice the wire was digging into my palm. Long story short about 30mins into this I noticed there was a deep red mark on my left palm after I tried picking up a glass of water and recieved a harsh jolt of pain. That event, coupled with a few other mistakes with other projects, led to me getting gloves with a thin leather layer on my palms.

Foot injuries are like my worst nightmare. That first one especially made me shudder so hard. 😬 On the bright side, now no one can judge me for obsessively keeping track of where all my needles and pins are (and also for tying a string to a magnet and obsessively keeping it within arm’s reach of wherever I’m sewing)

No I can't imagine stepping on a needle. No. I hate blood. Ahg! I've been sewing for about 2 years I've only made 1 suit. I have pricked myself a few times but I'm always super harsh on picking up needles. I have a magnetic pad that I brush along the floor and table around my sewing area and it picks up any needles hidden in the carpet.

The story about ripping off skin trying to pry their hand away from the eyes was so wild to me. Of all stories. I guess cuz like, despite my low pain tolerance, hot glue doesnt really hurt me. If I get hot glue somewhere wrong I'll just snatch it up with my fingers and squish it till it dries and peel it off. It's kinda fun ngl

About two weeks ago, I was doing some roto casting for a skull, so I was using quick-setting resin. I was wearing shorts as it was quite hot outside, which was a BIG mistake. I proceeded to spill the resin all over my leg. Luckily, we have a pool so I immediately jumped in and made the mistake of rubbing it everywhere trying to get it off. It set, and I was in the shower for about ~2 hours trying to scrub it off my skin. It was like a huge bandaid, and on top of that I had not shaved my legs in quite a while. I had resin on my hands for a week

There was a time I took a Christmas stocking and hand sewn it into bunny ears and a tail. I poked my finger and got blood on the white part. It wasn't a small amount either. I was so upset because this Christmas stocking was my dog's before he died in 2019. I was making this sentimental set for myself so I spent an hour washing it and more time after that letting it completely dry before I continued sewing it. They turned out amazing for my first time making a bunny ears and tail set but one ear is slightly shorter than the other by a small amount. Even had some fabric leftover to make a second much smaller tail. I did end getting another Christmas stocking for the fingerless gloves that'd match them so I could wear them during the winter with the set.

These stories sound horribly painful :( I’ve got two stories of me being a idiot with my Fursuit. I was working on my first Fursuit, and pinned all the fur in place. I wasn’t thinking since it was late at night and I wanted to get one look in it before turning in for the night, I had removed the pins mostly, but I forgot to take out one that was holding the ear fur down. I put the head on and it stabbed the top of my head. It hurt real bad but I decided to just put it down and stop working for the night. The second one had to do with hot glue. I was working on a suit and glueing strips in place since I wasn’t using a balaclava or the bucket method. I needed to make sure it was fitting right, so I put it on my head, thinking the glue was dry. It wasn’t. I got glue stuck in my hair on the top, right at the root of my hair. I couldn’t cut it out and ended up pulling dried glue out of my hair for a week. Not only did it burn my scalp, which hurt really bad, it also hurt to pull it out since my scalp is so sensitive! I probably have some chunks still in there 😂😅 Edit: I had another one happen to me just recently! I was sewing a simple prop and when I went to back stitch I had my finger behind the needle with my fingernail facing the wall (so the side of my finger was up) and when I backstitched the needle went straight into my finger. It terrified me and I jerked away as fast as I could. The needle was still in my finger when I jerked away and the force of me pulling away broke the needle (it thankfully fell out of my finger right after it broke off.) I was in so much shock I couldn’t feel the pain until like 20 minutes later. I did finish the prop I was sewing tho! Fun fact it was almost exactly 1 year after I got the machine!

So something that I’ve found works really well for getting sharpie stains out of anything is letting them soak in a 1/4 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water for a few days! I found that out by accident thinking I’d be able to dye some white fur blue with sharpies and then I just kind of left it to sit in the water because I hated the sharpie smell. Lo’ and behold all of my hard work spending hours getting every fiber was ruined. The backing stayed dark blue though! So it had this cool blue skinned effect

Oh geez, I had a piece of foam covered in fresh hot glue that flipped onto my left hand (mostly my whole pinky finger) as I was trying to place it on a head I was making. My fingers blistered so badly, transferred to my right hand too in a frantic attempt to get it off my left hand, and it was honestly the worst hot glue pain and accident I've had so far. I had like 2/3 fingers on each hand that weren't injured and have to adapt to grabbing things strangely for a while as the rest of my fingers healed. That was last year, and I've learned to take my glueing a bit more cautiously since then! Haha

The worst thing that happened to me probably is on my first ever fursuit I held the hot glue gun straight in the air and all the melted glue came rushing down on my finger, I had a nasty burn on it for a while. I still have a scar from it, and that's when I learnt that fursuit making isn't that safe!

The marking with sharpie tip came at a great time. I'd been experimenting with various things to mark some troublesome dark fur with on a piece of scrap (I was already worried but getting irritated not being able to *see*) so that horror story convinced me to keep looking. |D

For glue incidents you should keep alcohol or other solvents on hand just incase you accidentally glue your fingers. Stay calm and set your hand in the solvent and it will disolve the glue or paint that is stuck to you without damaging your skin

I’ve trodden on so many needles (luckily I almost exclusively use the ones that don’t exceed a couple of inches), broke 2 machine needles in one night working on my fursuit tail, got a few minor cuts from craft knives, too many hot glue burns, almost trapped my arm in an arm sleeve DTD, and that’s just from making a couple of fursuits. Other crafting failures include supergluing my fingers together, accidentally holding a soldering iron too low (nice blister from that), squashing my thumb on a piece of glass while making a stained glass bee and cutting it open (it wouldn’t stop bleeding), scratches from pins while sewing a trim onto a hat, endless felting needle stab wounds, and of course putting on a piece of clothing only to find a stray pin/needle in it.

Yep I have definitely had those hot glue burns/blisters STORY TIME So I have a habit to grab the hot glue when it first comes out a couple times to know if it’s warm enough to use, a few times it was warm/hot and burned myself a few times lol

I told my TAFE film course friends I was making my first fursuit and a friend of mine wanted to do their final project film about furries/bronies... using my fursuit, which unfortunately hadn't been made yet. This would have all been fine and good and I was 500% for the idea... until I had to rush it to a student deadline, while not only factoring in deadlines for my friend's film but also for my own film I was very much struggling with for time management and production. Because I didn't get time to research what I was doing, or how to even pattern a head or install ventilation, I ended up heavily abusing the $200 resin blank I ordered with loose scraps of unshaved fur hastily glued everywhere and because I didn't have time to buy mesh for the tear ducts or eyelids for the 3D following resin eyes I had so lovingly painted... in the film shoot itself, the "vision" was through weakened elastic from a pair of tights and those resin eyes? Well... they were temporarily stuck on with blu-tack. Even worse was that the actor playing the character of the furry in my friend's film was incredibly disproportionate to the suit measurements and the sleeves - all hand sewn with seams ripping everywhere - didn't line up with the "handpaws", which were essentially just unshaved fluffy mitts made of a fur that was the complete opposite colour to the rest of the suit and did not fit at all. The tail? Looked like a minecraft block covered in fur. Overall the film turned out okay for what it was worth and managed to get a decent mark, but all the effort I put towards that project instead of my own film gave me a lot of stress and as a result... my own grades began to drop, almost as badly as the quality of my poorly rushed fursuit partial. A personal suit, mind you, that ended up becoming something I'm honestly embarassed to have made or shown to a wide audience knowing that if I'd had more than 1 month to make it, and instead given it the longer turnaround time that professional makers usually have... the quality would have been something I could have worn multiple times, and actually been proud of. Moral of the story: DO NOT RUSH YOUR FURSUIT! Especially not your own personal suit! And above all else, CONSIDER YOUR COMMITMENTS AND TIME MANAGEMENT! Edit: This was several years ago and I no longer have the suit in question. I am currently commissioning a partial of a different oc to replace my original suit, and working on a head of yet another personal oc until I feel confident enough to remake the first oc.

Dont remember what I was making, it wasnt involving fur, but i thought one of our really hot glue guns was cool, but... it wasnt and i leaned over it to unplug something else and not only did it burn me right above the inside of my elbow, but glue got on and pulled some skin off when it dried. The scar is faded but still there a couple years later

Oh dang I wish I'd known about the release of this video I gave a story!! Once I was working on a suit in my room (I didn't have an office lol) and set my sewing needle down to check out some stitching, then about 30 seconds later I noticed my cat making a smacking sound with her mouth, looked over and noticed she was chewing on some thread and at the end of the thread was my needle...... it was 2 inches away from her mouth so I just gently yanked her mouth open and pulled the whole line of thread out because she was about to swallow it.... then i let her out of my room and didn't allow her in my room while working after that

I don't currently make suits but my glue gun has been the bane of my existence in all of my crafting. One time I was having such a weird day, and my brain was OFF. Turned on my glue gun, walked away for 30 seconds to grab something, forgot if I had turned it on so the only logical thing to do was to gRAB THE NOZZLE OF IT. I still don't know why. luckily, the burns weren't that bad, and I don't have any big scars or anything from it

that needle story tho i can relate i was sewing my sisters clothes because somehow she always manages to rip them and it was a large hole so i was half way through and decided with the one brain cell i have left i was gonna put the sharp part of the needle into the floor to go down and get food to eat when i came back i stood on the blunt end of the needle but it was still sharp enough to go into my foot i casually pulled it out and carried on sewing my sisters clothes with a different needle not caring that my foot was bleeding when i finished i went back down to throw them at her and my mum was panicing because the floor had blood on it not my foot the floor-

i’ve burnt myself so many times, and a few times were really really bad, and i’ve had my fair share of stepping on needles, but tbh the worst thing to happen to me is when i sliced my finder open i wasn’t being very careful when i was cutting some fur with an x acto, and i sliced the tip of my finger open it sucked, but i kept a bandaid on it and made sure it stayed clean

9:11 some electronic appliances (include electronic sewing machine) can be catch on fire if you push it too hard. Especially in electronic sewing machines, they have a motor to run all parts, just a motor. So, it will be a hard work for the motor. If you push it too hard (to long by pressing the motor pedal while it's struggles because the material is too thick or runs it in a lon periode of time) although greased or lubricated, it will end up in a hot situation. The motor will draw current from the electricity too much than the usual to accommodate the torque & it will catch on fire.
