The Fury tank was the only thing standing between the SS regiment and the American rear area. The rear would have been filled with wounded and a lot of soldiers like Norman at the start of the film. Fury had orders to keep the rear area safe. This isn't about not being smart. It's about following orders even if it get's you killed.

Wardaddy also lost his wife and child while fighting. Fury was his home, he had nothing left, and with the amount of PTSD they all had with the lack of treatment. Normans got all that PTSD and survivors guilt. I very much doubt he would have let himself continue living after getting back home.

In the spring of 1945 the Easy Eight Sherman would easily have been able to take out a Tiger at well over a kilometer, even facing frontward. The range at which that tank duel occurred was ridiculous.

Also “fury” would have been the first tank killed by the Tiger exactly for that reason.

In theory yes. All 76mm HVAP ammunitions were distributed Tank Destroyer batallions first so M10's got them first. Sherman's got them after U.S. Forces reached Rhein river. 76mm was even regular ammo true challenge for Tiger 1 from Side or Rear and theory could in 100 yards penetrate weak point of frontal armor (drivers window). Reason why in attack against Tiger they pincered Tiger. Too bad they Made Tiger commander brain dead as any regular Tiger 1 commander would have reversed in that situation.

16:13 "Tanks are so strong, they're kind of _used_ as, like, a _shield_ by everybody else." That was their original _purpose._ The stalemate that history has come to call "No-Man's Land" that existed between opposing trenches in the _First_ World War was a stalemate that existed because infantry and cavalry forces from neither side could successfully _cross_ that field to lay siege to positions on the other _side._ Every single soldier was always mowed down by opposing, enemy _machine-gun_ fire. This lead to a stalemate that existed until one side developed the tank. The first tanks were not light. They were not fast. But they didn't need to be. All they needed was the ability to cross No-Man's Land through the ensuing hail of bullets to take out opposing _machine_ gun positions on the other side and open the door for a charge by _infantry._

Norman very well could've been 17; that was the minimum age at which you could join the military in WW2 (with parental consent). At this point in the war, the minimum draft age was 18. The 'lasers' were tracer rounds. Every 5th bullet in a machine gun belt carried a small piece of magnesium that would ignite when it was fired. The resulting luminous trails could be used to tell where your shots were going and adjust aim accordingly. And the different warring factions in WW2 did use different colors of tracers than each other so they would know if the shots they were tracking were their own. The German Tiger was arguably the most-feared tank of the war. Heavily-armored with an absolutely lethal main gun, the only chance American Sherman tanks had originally was to get within insanely close range and shoot them from the rear, where the armour was thinnest. Fury is a later-model Sherman, though, and is equipped with a much-more-powerful gun that could actually take on a Tiger from the front - not the only example of a technical inaccuracy in the film. The Tiger in this film is Tiger 131, which is currently the only fully-operational Tiger tank left in the world. Just FYI: The Indian army fielded tank units of their own in WW2, equipped with British and (later) American tanks. I haven't found much information about them, though. It is odd that the copy of the movie you watched had no subtitles for the German speech. When Emma's cousin moves to stop her from going in the bedroom with Norman, Don tells her to let them go, because 'They're young. And they're alive.'

The American Sherman Tanks were smaller, not heavily armored like the German Tiger/Panzer Tanks which they were also much larger in size. Also American Sherman Tanks ran on gasoline, and the German Tiger/Panzer Tanks ran on diesel which it lasted a lot more longer to run on than gasoline. Yes, the Germans were ahead with their engineering in many aspects. Just before the end of WWII the Germans had jet fighters in the skies, but they were not perfected at that time. Great reaction to the film 'Fury' Sheree. Also your English is very impeccable for not growing up in America or in England. When you speak English sounds like you were educated here in America. Much better than mine I would say. Also please do a reaction to the WWII 1943 film 'Sahara' with Humphrey Bogart and to the WWII 1970 film 'Patton' with George C. Scott if you can. Both are excellent films.

The other one is the WWII 1969 film (which I forgot to mention) is 'The Battle of Britain' which I did see at the theater when first released when I was 13 years old. Also an excellent WWII film with authentic WWII airplanes, and no special effects during air battle, and an excellent all British cast.

In military service, duty is paramount. The preservation of your own life is not priority. If your duty is to hold the crossroad, you hold it or die trying. As Spiers said in BoB, accept the fact that you’re already dead, then you can function as a soldier. Stupid has nothing to do with it.

My absolute favorite WWII tank film! Brad Pitt ìs excellent in his role as a tank commander. In this era of tank warfare, it was really quantity vs. quality. They had superior tanks, we had more. That fact is portrayed very well in this film. Exceptional choice Shree! If I may, there is a western ' Quigley Down Under ' Tom Selleck starring in a role, as good as Brad Pitt's character in this film. IMO.😊

This movie puts u in Norman's shoes, and takes u on his arc! Germany had much better equipment than the allies. Better handguns, the had even AK style rifles, but not yet mass produced, better shoulder fired rockets, better tanks better planes. If they hadnt attacked Russia, and if the americans hadn't won the battle of the Bulge, no way we win this war. Because they already had drone planes, drone rockets, were already working on mass producing jet fighters, and would have been nuclear by the end of 45. Sadly, Norman's prediction for Emma came true. best job i ever had means, i love u guys. Norman played the child in the great remake movie,3.10 to Yuma!! sort of based on a true story, the last battle. Type in here, Audie Murphy in WW2!

This movie showcases, I think quite accurately, just _how_ much loss one of our tank crews in WWII experienced. The tanks from Germany were superior to tanks from the US in _every_ way except one. They were _bigger,_ they were _tougher,_ they could fire a larger-caliber _shell_ at a target further _away,_ but tanks from the US could be manufactured a _hell_ of a lot faster, and we _capitalized_ on that. Was a single German tank a match for a single American tank? Indisputably. Was it a match for _two?_ Probably. Was it a match for _three?_ Well, it depends on the circumstances. But was it a match for four? No. So the US had to use the most _extraordinary_ care in making sure they had vast _numerical_ superiority before they _went_ anywhere. Wars are hard. And I don't just mean they're strenuous. I mean, they take a _bloody_ toll on whoever fights them. They're the _last_ thing in the world you want to get good at, because basically, that means getting good at losing people you're in _charge_ of. You see these guys endure devasting loss after devastating loss. But you also hear about how this particular tank and its crew have been a part of successful efforts to drive the Germans back from _one_ theater of war after _another,_ so now, the only place the German war effort continues is within _Germany._ They've been defeated everywhere else.

Apart from quantity, American Sherman medium tanks were able to outclass German heavy tanks in a few other ways too: throughout all German tank production engineers had a bad habit of focusing on hard factors like speed, firepower & armor while neglecting equally important soft factors like ergonomics, reliability, ease of maintenance, etc. Almost as many German tanks were put out of action by technical breakdowns that the tank crews couldn't feasibly repair in the field as they were by combat and fuel shortages. They had a tendency to over-engineer their hardware making them easy to break and difficult to repair. That's why it made sense for 3 Shermans to take on a Tiger tank despite the fact that their main guns couldn't penetrate the armor; Tiger tanks in particular were known to be vulnerable to losing their entire internal electrical system when the tank took a hit in the right place, whether the round penetrated or not. M4 Sherman designers took these soft factors into account to create tanks that were comparatively simple, reliable, roomy and easy to maintain and repair. They were under-gunned and under-armored compared to German tanks because Shermans were designed for infantry support roles while the Panther, Tiger & Tiger II's were designed with tank warfare in mind. The U.S. didn't share Hitler's obsession with constantly squandering time and resources to create newer and more powerful wonder weapons year by year, so instead they settled on a Good Enough medium tank that was versatile enough to operate in all theaters with a chassis that could easily accept field upgrades like thicker armor plating and more powerful guns. This "tactics over technology"-mentality kept production of more tanks proceeding uninterrupted whereas Germany kept sabotaging their own industry by trying to outclass whatever bigger, tougher tanks they encountered in the field.

As Norman is checking out the insides of the tank, you can actually see a silvery cross with a blue neck ribbon. It's the "Hero Mother" award, for giving birth to 5+ children. Imagine now *_how_* could they get a hold of that one? Also, it was based on a real story, but in the end it was JUST ONE GUY, telling his crew to leave, who had to use cannon, machine gun, submachine gun, pistol and then resort to grenades. Nazis were like 'F that' and just went around him for good. Sidenote, still hoping to see Soldier 1998 :3 So I could recommend more awesome movies :D

In the IDF I was in the infantry brigade Golani and in Golani we have what is called Achzarit (feminine form of cruel). It's a troop ground transport that basically is a replica of the Russian T54 (and T55) tank but without the turret. So it's like the body of a tank that is use to transport troops in various terrain and instead of a turret there is a Mag with 7.62 mm bullets. You can fit up to half a dozens guys in it and I've done exercises where I was almost 48 hours in the fucking thing. I can assure you, when you come out of it, your ass hurts like a motherfucker. So yeah, I know what it's like to be for extended periods of time inside a tank and it's not easy. Great war film btw and Brad Pitt is, as always superb.

This was absolutely amazing film first half. Second half went into Mary-Sue superhero story... But apparent bs fight that was final fight and appareantly German's got major downgrade in level in second half and Shermans actually got ability to bounce 75mm pak 40's ammo's (which singe gun could make 12-16 shots a minute per gun but during assault they made less than 5 shots per 3 guns)... This is still one the best tank films made in WWII. I just wish they would have kept the realism of first half also in second half aswell. But yeah. Tigerphobia was real thing in allies. They carpetbombed every barn even rumor running there were Tigers near by. I agree n ' Quigley Down Under ' with Tom Selleck. Its underrated western.

Your experience, I cannot speak to. In the US, we tend to struggle with history, _I_ suspect, because it's taught as a dull, lifeless list of names and dates instead of being taught as the _immersive, epic narrative_ it was for people who actually lived _through_ it. But, you know, you may like this list of documentaries you can find on YT called _WWII: The Complete History._ First, the title is a bit misleading. _No_ account of that war that is simple enough for a _single_ person to understand could _ever_ truly be described as "complete," but it's a good, overall narrative. Second, although it's a good effort, there are places where the _editing_ could've been done better. There's a stretch where the background music drowns out the narrator, and at the end of one episode, the sound dies altogether. 🤷 Third, there are only two _factual_ details they got wrong, as far as I've noticed. For one, December 7, 1941, is when war broke out between the US and Japan _only._ War between the US and Germany and Italy did not start until four days later. The documentary said they all happened the same day. 🤷 For another, the senior General in charge of the Japanese war machine was _Hideki_ Tojo. For some reason, the documentary pronounced it "_Eye_ de kai." 🤷 But let me give you _these_ tips, if you decide to watch it. First, it has thirteen chapters, but it's absolutely _not_ something to marathon. One episode a day. That's it. Give each chapter a chance to process. Second, while you watch it, keep a piece of paper and a pen handy (absolutely _not_ a word processor). The first time they mention the name of a _person_ or a _battle,_ pause the video long enough to jot that down. Don't worry about any _other_ information; just get the name. Otherwise, though, consider it recommended.
