There seems to be a lot of mixing together the ideas of "realism" and "historical accuracy"...they are not the same thing. Fury is quite realistic in many ways, though not all...but it consistently fails on the side of historical accuracy...and there are significant issues with both. The fact that they had a real Tiger tank to film was great, but the way they used it was completely ridiculous to anyone who knows the reality of Tiger vs Sherman combat...and as others have noted, Belton Cooper's book has been debunked. On the realism side, the fact that Ayer decided to add so many tracers effects in post production makes one of the most basic parts of combat almost completely unrealistic...more like laser beams than real tracer effects. And the fact that there is no artillery or air support shown, and not even any mortars in existence in the entire movie, is both completely unrealistic and very much wrong in a historical sense. Fury is a very well acted movie, and has some incredibly compelling scenes, but it is much much more of an action film than a realistic or accurate war movie.

I see you are using the term of Realism as a cinamatic style, not werther the film is realistic nor Historical, Fury filming style give a certain atmosphere but it is not relastic as it if based on flawed history. Nicholas Moran (The Chieften) can explain why Death Trap is such a flawed book. The last part of the film is just laughable. Some say its based on the events of Audie Murphy but using a knoked out M10 as a Aartliry OP and defending it with the M10 with a 50 Cal is a bit diffrent. This removes the Realism, the second you can say this is bollockes the atmosphere vanishes. The cruel sea also a fictionlised story based on memours is more Realistic and has more Realism due to it. 70% Boardem 25% being Tired and 5% fear.
