Some of us are of an age that is fortunate to still have memories of this story on transmission. It was a truly terrifying experience at such a young age, which is why it remains such a firm favourite.. I hope the animation does it justice.

At 3:05 I can see the house I grew up in. I was just short of my 4th birthday when this was filmed and remember seeing the massive trucks with "BBC" written on the sides, parked at the top of the slope down to the beach, which is in the middle of that picture. It's one of my earliest childhood memories.

I am very excited about the animation. With the exception of Midnight, no Doctor Who story has fundamentally terrified me as much as Fury From the Deep, which is extremely impressive for a Classic Who serial. I just hope they do this immense story justice, but after how beautiful The Macra Terror was, I don't think we have anything to worry about.

I grew up when Dr. Who was off air. So I rented a copy of this serial on audio cassette tape from the local library when I was 12. It soon turned into one of my favourite serials. To this day Troughton is my Doctor.

I watched Loose Cannon's recon of it this past summer, it really is a magnificent story. Every cast member gives it their all, but I was especially surprised by Victor Maddern, since I'd only known him from Carry On films, I wasn't expect him to put in such a volatile and terrific peromance, you can really feel the tension in those scenes with him, as well as the weed scenes. That heartbeat sound apparently scared the hell out of my dad when he watched it back in '68. A 10/10 story.

Rewrites a day before recording!? "Fury of the stressed out cast". With the ultra stressful production process no wonder Hartnell's health declined till he had to leave and Troughton left after 3/4 years? Modern Doctor Who, TV in general and Movies don't realize how lucky they are.

I was only 7 when it was shown,,, I loved it and was so amazed and memorized by it. I DID see a short clip of it on KZfaq but it seems to be lost. I remembered the lady walking into the sea.

I remember listing Fury From The Deep, as 1 a tie for my 5th Worst Patrick Troughton Story. This doesn't mean I hated it; In-Fact, I hated putting it there, as the only Stories from his era I could actually justify being: 'Bad,' were: The Highlanders, The Underwater Meance, and The Space-Pirates. After those 2, I had to put some good 1s on there. Oh, Well. I can't wait, for this to be Animated! I hope when they're done, they do stuff like Lost In The Dark Dimension, or Big-Finish! :)

Read the novelisation, listened to nth generation audio cassette recording in the 80's, then listened to the official audio, saw the telesnaps in DWB (I think) seen the Loose Cannon recon, read the novelisation again, can't wait for the animation!! Lets hope that 'The Faceless Ones' is really, really successful, it might help boost the budget for Fury..... Great work Josh, as always.

A few points that I wasn't previously aware of👏👍🏼💯 Visually I'm sure it was a great looking production (Hugh David was a good director), the music is atmospheric but on audio it just seemed to be lots of people shouting in a control room (Inferno would doubtless equally suffer on audio). Animations don't really do anything for me.

I'm surprised it's not mentioned, but the main character in the radio play, The Slide, is played by Roger Delgado. It's amusing to hear the Master take the Doctor's role!

I'm happy with audio... animation...recons...stone tablets...sock puppets...oh and the real deal if ever found,. In conclusion, any and all versions of classic Doctor Who are cool with me :)

Like with most of the Troughton era I remember only snippets and scenes of this, and other serials, being broadcast on TV here in the 1960s. Am looking forward to the complete serial animantion to get that nostaglia experience again. I do hope we get at least one boxset from this era soon - and also a complete Wheel In Space please.

Great news that Fury is next up for animation!

I first saw this news when I woke up and I had to do a double take. This is awesome news! Fury from the Deep is my favorite missing Troughton serial and I can't wait for its release! (As long as it doesn't take as long as it has for The Macra Terror to appear in Region 1 stores, lol).

I can tell you right now out of all the animated episodes this looks to be be the best one yet they sold the whole insane evil alien monster aspect of the serial in the trailer I think

I'm a huge fan of Fury from the Deep. Have the audio version both downloaded on my kindle and I have the audio CDs that were released in the early 2000s. But I'm also super hyped about the animation and can't wait to see it.

And I thought the making of The Faceless Ones had some interesting information, But this is fascinating.

It remains to be seen whether all six episodes of Fury From the Deep will be recovered, but the chances seem too remote. Imagine how different it might've been had Jamie destroyed the seaweed monster with his bagpipes. . . a bad decision to reject it, IMO. Otherwise, a good documentary, Josh. Thanks for posting. 😯

Thanks for the information about FFTD being animated! I would have expected The Evil of the Daleks first. Perhaps they've found the films? Hahaha

I’m the same as Layton Mathieson in FFTD being very Low in my rankings. I’ve watched it a few times on some kind of rebuild with audio and pics or telesnaps I forget which. Whatever, I found it overlong, and only the brilliant performances of the actors playing Quill and Oak saving it from seeming any worse. But, as Layton said, let’s see what the animation brings out of it. After all we were all surprised and delighted by the enemy of the world !!!! And thanks again Josh for brightening up our day as always.

You know, I've just returned home from a coastal walk in Devon... and I get back to the news that Fury is being animated... I am so happy

I only know this story through the novelization, some parts of which rather creeped me out when I first got it back when it was published. Oak and Quill fueled my nightmares for a while, before I saw the one surviving clip of them doing their thing even. *shudder!*

I'm curious about the timing of the release. We still have Faceless Ones announced as 2020, but with no date. When they released a similar teaser for Macra Terror, it was released three months later (5 Dec 2018 - 25 Mar 2019). That kind of timetable won't be in play here, as we have Faceless in-between now and Fury. There any talk as to when Faceless is actually coming out, so we can try and figure out when Fury will be released?

Ouh, Wowh! TheSlide was on Radio4Extra until last week. TheMaster (R Delgado) was Gomez the lead scientist. Warning for anyone listening to it, turn your volume down at the opening, the theme is very earsplitting.

This is one that never really worked for me via audio. And I'm not big on the recons. So, I'm looking forward to the animation. Still ... the Mighty Trout has a such an expressive face that animation can never match.

Was the "long arms" thing in Wild Blue Yonder a reference to the animated version of Fury, how people complained that the arms were too long? Or perhaps I'm over thinking it.

Of course I'm excited for this, one of Troughton's best. I'm also fascinated by Victor Pemberton as a person anyway, it's so sad that he & Debbie won't be around to see this come to fruition. I'm sure your aware that Victor's one of he earliest examples of an LGBT writer for the show, which is amazing! It's such a crime that he never wrote anything for the series after this, with it being such high quality. I got so intrigued by him that I even found his official website, when that was still running, and he seemed like a really approachable, nice guy. Sadly he died before I could send an email his way, I really would be interested if someone was to publish a biography of him one day. Anyway onto the animation; I'm very, very intrigued by the artistic design of some of this. Certainly the cliffs and the foam have more of a painterly, almost Japanese, style to them...as I said, intrigued! Also from what we saw in the character designs from the panel the character designs look pretty similar to the other recent animations so I'm interested to see how these both mesh together. Also Gary has said in the past how much of a fan of this story he is, so I know he will do it justice. We're on to a winner here!!

Thanks to BLUE BUTTERFLY'S reconstructs (unless the BBC has legally forced them off the net) you can download and see FURY FROM THE DEEP and many other Lost Episodes. Though I am waiting impatiently for the animated remakes.

Nice little documentary ... one note. If Gibralta had been sent a copy of FURY, then it would have been a FILM PRINT as that is what was sent to all other territories ... so if they did return it to the Beeb, it couldn't have been 'wiped' ... it would have to have been literally thrown away ... I'm sure the info is all in the book WIPED but I don't have a copy to hand at the moment ...
