We knew it was going to happen. We were walking out to fish in this exact same spot a couple weeks ago and there was empty squid boxes and a few styrofoam cups with dried shrimp and several cut bait on the ground .. Some people ruin it for those of us who are responsible & clean up after ourselves and have respect for the area and environment.

Trash is EVERYWHERE, because it's NOT BIODEGRADABLE ANYMORE!!! Drive by a Walmart and you will find Walmart PLASTIC bags all around the edges of property where the wind blows then. The plastic bag undusrty, bankrolled, the dumb logic that paper bags killed trees. Now the WULDLIFE of the oceans, and nurds, and other animals are literally choking to death on plastic. Meanwhile paper bags are not killing anything and disappears after a few rains, and trrrs grow back.

Thanks for sharing this Brad. I love your idea of using a crab net to bring up the big fish. I'm certainly going to use that the next time I go. Where I live jet skis and boats do not follow the channel markers and they disobey the signs under the bridge that have do not enter signs. We have snagged quite a few people over the years and they try and blame the people on the bridge fishing in the areas specifically marked for fishing when I think it's the boaters fault for ignoring the rules of the intercoastal waterway. We are all just trying to have some fun while sharing the water and there would be far less accidents if people would just follow some basic common sense.

They should designate places for boats to pass under the bridge and not allow fishing from the bridge from those locations. We shouldn’t lose access from shore fishing or bridge fishing because of boats or bike traffic or anything else. Those bridges actually belong to WE THE PEOPLE as they are public bridges/roadways just like the waters do so they should do something that allows us all to use them for our own recreational purposes. These kinds of minor overreaches are the exact reason a lot of us are pushing and making sure there’s not a single one of our God given RIGHTS stepped on in any way whatsoever no matter how big or small.

I don't fish there but I have fished similar places. I see a lot of out-of-towners there for the weekend with temp licenses, dressed far too nice for fishing, brand new fishing equipment, cannot tie a decent knot, and totally disregarded me when I asked them to please pick up their mess when they went to leave. I picked it up. Too bad fisherman cant hang a small flag down to alert boats they are there to avoid freak accidents like what happened to this lady. That way the boat could be more cautious. Alternatively, a disposable air horn if pretty cheap. The boat could blow it a couple times indicating they are passing underneath so they don't toss a weight treble hook at a bad time.

I fish in a spot in Panama City Florida, and since the border has been open, we have had tremendous problems with the illegal aliens coming down and leaving all of their trash, keeping a ton of illegal fish and when they bring their families, they even leave their dirty diapers laying around. It’s so frustrating you try to politely explain to them that they need to pick up their trash and read the regulations but they just ignore you. It has ruined it for so many people in my area.

I remember when I was around ten years old, my Dad told me to take my fishing tackle out of the trunk and put it in the shed. About two weeks later he stopped at the beer store to buy a 24 of bottles. When we got home I heard him screaming outside, he lifted the case of beer out of the trunk and a large treble hook was stuck out of the case, the other hook went all the way through his belly. He couldn’t set the case down so we had to carefully empty every bottle, then we cut the case away from the hook. He finally cut the barb off and pulled the hook, the weight of the beer tore his skin bad enough that he needed four stitches. Guess who got blamed? Yep! He wasn’t impressed with me.😂

Just a bit of history, when Ivan took out the GB side of the Fishing Bridge, GB got 20 Million from FEMA to rebuild the GB side. GB decided to get permission and use that 20 from FEMA to build infrastructure drainage/storm drains in GB Proper. IMO, the money for their drainage project should have come from Property taxes. GB ended up getting another 17 Million from FEMA to use for tearing down the GB side of the fishing bridge. The fishing bridge before Ivan had sections that were painted and dedicated as "No Fishing Area" on the top side and underneath because they were dedicated boat lanes . It made for a simple solution. Doing that makes way more since than saying no fishing across the entire bridge because some weekend yahoo isn't looking for lines when going underneath the bridge.

Hey how would you like to be traveling on a waterway and get hooked in the eye, because idiots who run the state don't see a problem with mixing fishing from bridge above where boats travel. That was the issue. They couldn't just stop boats from traveling in middle of bridge because they are Federally protected navigation routes. Should have been banned from beginning. Close to shore fishing only, on bridge. That area could be closed to boats.
