The weird looking people on stage aren't technically there. They are in a way, projected onto the stage. Everyone in the crowd was given this app that could let them be seen through their phone's cameras. It's called AR technology. (That, and the characters are also on giants screens behind the stage so...) The person with the raps you always like are called Soyeon, they were the one on stage with the purple jacket. They were also the rapper with the white hair in the 2019 opening ceremoney for Giants. Soyeon always portrays the in-game character Akali, they are the blacklight rapper in Pop Stars, White haired Spray Painter rapper in Giants, rapper in The Baddest and the Motorcylce riding rapper in More. They are even the green character you saw on the countdown at the start, they are just in their base skin in that instance. If you didn't know, every time Riot makes a song the characters showed in the songs are given skins of outfits they had in that video, the characters on the countdown were the normal looks of all the KDA members with and without their skins.

Girl in purple jacket was Soyeon, the voice of Akali (ninja). She'd done the motion capture, knew the choreo _cold,_ and thus knew the timing and position of the (invisible to her!) Akali projection to seemingly interact with it at 5:14.

It's AR, aka Augmented Reality. The crowds can see them on stage with devices, but not directly by eyes.

The girl rapping is Soyeon, she is the voice of the Ninja character named Akali. The characters were made with AR (augmented reality),so you could see them through cameras streaming. And yes, that was Madison beer

Soyeon (vocals for Akali) has done a behind the scenes video to the live League of Legends performances. For this particular one, she and Miyeon did motion capture for the characters they represent. The Legends characters are there via augmented reality. I believe the audience could see either on the screens or through an app on their phones

Its all computer graphics. Kda is a virtual girl group. The 4 girls are alternate versions of characters from the game. They're not actually on stage. They show up on the big monitors.

So the characters on stage are not technically there for 2018. The stage was AR where if you had an app you could view it from your phone. But in 2020 the characters were actually there. But 2020 isn’t really a live performance besides Lexie who is seraphine the new KDA member since she is from China. 2020 opening was weird but a good time for new technology.

Ok, so a few explaining for you: Countdown 8 to 1: avatar original apparence (skin) -> avatar K/DA apparence (skin). Technology: True Damage used holonet, net all over the scene to get hologram projected on. Advantage people at the show can see it live, problem: it's clearly a projection and cannot be "crisp/clear". K/DA use augmented reality: people cannot see them irl but, thru an app they got for free, spectator in the arena could use they phone camera to watch the scene live and the virtual character were there, in real time, interacting with the singers and the dancers. Btw K/DA mean Kill Death Assist which are the stat given to you at the end of a League of Legend match: Number of time you KILL another player, Number of time you were DEATH and number of time you ASSIST another player to kill and enemy.
