Göring Gambit (aka Danish Gambit on Gear)

A subscriber suggested the Göring Gambit as potentially an upgrade to the Danish, so I thought I'd check it out... and I like!

Another nice thing about the Alapin as white is that the ideas are pretty straightforward. At the intermediate level, black can misstep pretty easily too. So, yea, I'd agree on your point about studying the Alapin.

An interesting video. One could almost argue that most e4 e5 openings end up in a handful of positions that are common to all of them, depending on move order.

Yeah, same could be said for the straight-up Danish too, I guess.

@@ChessBootCamp True enough ben and as you say easier to get to the position from the Gøring gambit move order.

I love the Smith-Morra against c5 bc it overlaps with the Goring/Danish and not have to mess with any Sicilian awfulness.

Makes sense. I keep sniffing the Smith-Morra, never really got stuck in though.

Why play the Alapin Sicilian when you can play the Morra Gambit? ;-) A downside would be that black can force you into an Alapin, but that's rare the lower the rating.

Yeah the Morra probably does suit my style more. Just need to devote some time to learning it.
