I've been intrigued about G5's new broadhead, the DeadMeat. Check out this test of how it well it opens and holds up to 3/8" of plywood.
Please consider donating to my Channel so I can do more testing. The link is on my home page graphic. It is www.paypal.me/luskarcheryadventure

So glad I found this video! I'm new to archery hunting and have a 20 year old Summit crossbow from my father-in-law. I have 2 different types of mechanicals and don't know much about them. I'm excited to try the dead meats soon, just got my first crossbow kill this Saturday on a really nice bow. Good review and good information! God bless!

Smacked a yearling at 20 yds. 406.6 gram total arrow weight at 69 pounds 28.5 draw. Complete pass through. All three blades deployed. Instant blood slosh at impact, a trail that Ray Charles could follow for 60 yards and down.

Thank you Daniel. I used to shoot those, but it was before my testing. At one point I tested a lot of different single bevel heads and made vids of that, I think called, "Broadhead Battle: Light Heavyweight Round." But I didn't test the Helix at that point. With it having an aluminum ferrule in the lighter weights, it's not as strong as others. Ferrules are the weak spot in single bevels, due to the torsional stress put on them. Aluminum doesn't do nearly as well as steel, and component heads don't do as well as single piece heads either, in that regard.

Thanks for watching Bryce. I really appreciate it. And that's a great question. For this head, I do believe they will fly just like a field point. But beyond 40 yards, your form and bow tune will be a bit tested. If your form is solid and your tune is good, they will hit like field points well past 100 yds. Hope that helps.

That's pretty good for that set up. That's a good arrow weight for your poundage and draw length. But you ought to consider using a smaller cutting mech like the Sevr 1.5 or a fixed blade head, to maximize penetration. Check out my vids on the Sevr 1.5

@LuskArcheryAdventures

Thanks for the question Wes. Pipelines are the least expense Bishop head, so they wouldn't be my top pic anyway. Though they are awesome. For whitetail, it all depends on your set up. But I think the best overall choice in terms of durability, flight, edge retention, cut size and cost, I would say the QAD Exodus. If you're comfortable using a mechanical, then I would say an NAP Killzone and possibly a Rage Trypan.

@@LuskArcheryAdventures i have never used a mechanical only thing ive had was g5 montec shot an 8 point two years ago at an extreme angle bolt went the length of the body from right shoulder and popped out back left leg then i think the deer tryed to pull it out with its teeth because bolt was laying next to deer 60 yards away. Im just a firm believer in practability meaning the less moving parts the less malfunctions im into crossbows. Unfortunetly i cannot afford an excalibur like i want so i have a pse fang xt it claims 350 fps but lets say 330 fps what would you say are your top 3 broadheads period you would have at least 95 percent compleate confidence in also arrows or bolts? After getting a deer with a crossbow i was hooked . i was always a gun hunter but after that eventually i would like to get into archery it was so much mor rewarding than a rifle or shotgun hunt

Have you tried to shoot this out of an Excalibur crossbow? The bolts leave this crossbow very harsh, I've tried a lot of mechanicals and a lot of them open before hitting the target. I have found that swhackers do the trick but they don't have a very good entrance, I'm thinking about trying the deadmeat out of it, or the Trypan crossbow head, if ever you decide to do a mech crossbow head test do it out of an Excalibur crossbow I'd like to see how many quote on quote crossbow mechanicals will survive. Thanks for a great video.

Thanks brother! I really appreciate you watching and commenting. I have not shot them out of a cross bow. But they do come in a cross bow model. In testing after this video, specifically the video called: Massive Mech Match or something like that, the Deadmeat outperformed all of the three blade heads. It is a really good one. You just have to make sure the blades slide smoothly inside the ferrule. Some of them have had small burrs in there and keep some of the blades from opening. It happened in my testing.

Very good. This was one of my first broadhead test vids; I've since tested this head quite a bit more, as well as the Megameat. The biggest drawback of them is the blades do not lock open, so they do tend to close after the initial impact of opening. That helps penetration, but doesn't help the wound channel.
@mr.skeptical3071

Absolutely. I shoot these and they lay back. I'm not sure why he held them out like that, as soon as he let them go, they went back to where they are supposed to be. Great heads, just make sure you have a heavier arrow with good f.o.c. as it doesn't penetrate well due to the design taking alot of energy to open

Lusk Archery Adventures Quoted directly from G5 website. "The outer ferrule of the Deadmeat is machined out of 100% steel. It is extra hardened with a very sharp and powerful chisel tip for added penetration." You should do some research before commenting.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. G5 told me on the phone that it is all MIM. I'm not sure what the confusion is. Perhaps part of it is MIM and part is machined.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
It appears that the point/outer ferrule is machined, but the blades and the bulk of the ferrule/screw in portion is MIM. Strong tip...weaker blades and inside.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? Their site says it is just the "point/outer ferrule." The ferrule has two portions, and the only one said to be machined is that specific one, not the inner, threaded portion. G5 said this on the phone as well. I am happy to be wrong on this, but this is the information I have been given. Where does yours come from?

I think that’s part of why people have penetration issues with mechanicals. They run them on too light of an arrow and they use up too much of what little KE and Momentum they have. Heavier arrow would theoretically fix that or at least help.

Comment on blade angle, the blades won't flare out like that as they pass thru an animal... there will be resistance on the blades tips.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. That may be the case, but why do you think that? That is not what happened in the plywood. They held their full open potential all the way through. I'm not sure why you would want them to close back up at all, as the would channel would be that much smaller.
@kscumminsdriver
@kscumminsdriver 6 жыл бұрын
at 7:06 in your video you push up on the bottom of the blade tip to demonstrate blade angle. The blade will not maintain that flat blade angle when deployed. It is only able to maintain that because you are supplying the upward force on the blade. What happened when you removed your finger... the blade fell to a more natural state. I'm not saying the blades will close up but they are designed to 'lock' into the ferrule once deployed. There is a notch in the underside of the blade that is intended to engage the bottom of the circular cutout that is primarily used for blade removal/replacement. The blades are under tremendous pressure along the leading edge when passing thru a live animal, plywood or other reasonably dense target. From a physics standpoint, the blades can't stay open in the position you show at 7:06 without at least an equal force on the trailing edge of the blade and that force doesn't exist.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I had thought they would lock in that fully opened position, but they do not. I just examined them further and did see that they push back to the clip when deployed. Thank you for noting that--I really appreciate it!

Thanks for watching and commenting. I've shot these heads quite a bit since this first vid, and taken a number of animals with them. They are decent heads and they fly super well. But the blades do not lock open, so they tend to open and close based on the resistance the tip is receiving. So the hole sizes vary; sometimes shrinking down to under 1" diameter. That maximizes penetration but lessens the cut size and resulting blood letting capability.

Well, thank you for sharing your thoughts Raven. Each of us have to select a broadhead based on certain criteria. What are your criteria? For me, I want as many data points to make that selection as possible: Flight, cut size, ferrule strength, blade thickness, type of steel, type of aluminum, edge retention, etc. Each data point may not be essential, but each one is helpful. If two heads fly just as well, but one can hold up to steel plate or cinder block and the other can't, wouldn't you want to choose the one that can? I certainly would. It's like Hoyt showing their bows being run over by trucks or being dry fired 10,000 times. That likely will never happen in real life, but it sure is assuring to know your bow can handle it.
