“she even criticized BO. BURNHAM. WHO EVEN IS SHE?” … a well-read literary critic whose points are not meant to be taken as ultimate truth but simply constructive analysis and criticism? i don’t know if this is true of burnham on account of we don’t hang out but he seems like the kind of guy who would appreciate the honesty of oates’ reviews and take what she said to heart. rachel oates, to me, feels like an amazing online example of the critiques we as writers are so afraid of, but she carries both the best and the worst, as one should - she can tear apart a piece by observing weak bricks but in the same breath note the beauty of something small you didn’t even realize you made. imo she was overly kind to hanna’s poetry because she sensed some insecurity and didn’t want to be cruel. some of the most honest words i’ve heard out of gabbie hanna are founded on her fury at a critic who actually complimented some of her work, vitriol towards a quiet lady who analyzes books beside a dog. i would be honored to have my writing critiqued by such a fair and occasionally even lenient judge

filler is just embarrassing to admit. does she actually think she’s a real artist if she’s just writing to meet a deadline and profit off of the money of her millions of loyal fans
@allysanimalchannel Жыл бұрын
I'm not a Gabbie Hanna fan by any means (I didn't know anything about her before this video) but I actually thought that was a fun poem... Deadlines often have a significant impact on creative works. Creators might not have time to truly "perfect" a work if they're working under a deadline. But having no deadline is not necessarily better since it can lead to the work being endlessly delayed or just never finished at all - look at how long it's taking for A Song of Ice and Fire to be finished, for example (not a criticism of Martin's choices and process, just pointing out that this approach also has drawbacks). I kind of liked how she poked fun at that concept, played with the layout of the poem to make it visually representative (having it fill more space than it normally should), and providing a new perspective for readers when they analyze the other poems.

it reminds me of the zines ppl used to sell in hs. doesn’t seem like she respects the craft of poetry much. esp the poem where she, iirc, wants u to make ur friends buy the book instead of just reading them bc she wants a lamborghini. feels more like a cash grab. she should’ve just made an illustration book, the drawings are nice

I dislike Gabbie alot but I try to seperate my personal biases of the person and be objective as I can with the work itself. I dont think filler was as nearly as terrible as you are overdramatizing it to be. Its just a little quirky poem that makes you go “oh”, especially if you work in similar crafts. No need to be a diva.

So... look, I get it. Bad representation of ADHD isn't what will get people to understand the disorder better, but like it or not ADHD doesn't make you an Angel. As a matter of fact, it makes it impossible to regulate your emotions. Makes you obsessively think about things that don't matter. If you really have ADHD, you get it. Putting someone down because they aren't the "perfect representation" of ADHD isn't helping. It's just showing everyone, especially neurotypicals, that when it comes down to it people with ADHD are either "faking it" or a nuisance. ADHD is a NEGATIVE way to live if you don't understand it, and especially if you're being told "you need to just control yourself." That's the opposite of what ADHD allows you to do. Gabbie isn't you. Gabbie isn't the poster child of ADHD. She just has it, and is trying to explain that she's been acting erratically because her brain is wired differently. If you can't imagine how it feels to be a certain kind of way that, you know isn't the way you're supposed to be, and be told that you're just making excuses after you finally have the reason for why you're that way, I don't think you actually have ADHD. I have ADHD, and it is perfectly relatable to see someone like Gabbie being thrown under the bus because she's just been off for so long, despite her now trying to get better. Like, that was me before I meds! Just because you're "not as bad" as Gabbie, doesn't diminish what's going on with her. And it certainly isn't misinformation that ADHD makes you act out. It is literally mental disorder that causes you to act out.

is it just me or does it feel like gabbie has a genuine disdain for women in general? like she never brought up any male commentators when she was criticizing commentators, weird cause most commentators are men, and the most mean towards gabbie were def men. she also calls every woman she criticizes a bitch or a “crazy bitch” and it makes me so uncomfortable. shes all about feminism when it comes to her.

Like my real dad. Called me yesterday, blaming me for how I never want to talk to him. Told me he disowned me and that he's not my father any longer. Because I didn't hear my phone when he called. Literally 30 minutes prior to that drama call. Never understanding that me not liking him might be because he has a history of heavily degrading my mom for the biggest part of my life. Spit my sister in the face while she was having a panick attack. Calling them both stupid and promising them a bad future. Structurally. Thinks labeling me as the golden child and my mom and sister as the black sheep would be a right thing to do. Didn't think that it might backlash. Then, after a 10 minute rant of how bad of a son I am, starts to complain about his taxes. And how no one helps him with that since the divorce. The joke here is that I literally did his taxes 2 weeks ago. Because I found myself struggling in a duty dilemma, because he started crying and telling me he's depressed and lonely. And I felt for that because I have known those feelings, or rather lack of, as well. I exploded. But for some reason made an appointment with him to help him do his taxes anyway. Because it felt like a loyal conflict and we're still somehow financially dependend of him (long story). But also because I pity him. Sort of in a degrading way. The "look at what you become" and "I'm disgusted of carrying 50 percent of your genes, but in the end it makes me your son" kind of way. Even though his blame was so misplaced I still felt bad for him being alone and depressed.

Gabbie either knew sending her book to Rachel meant it wouldn’t be reviewed favorably and therefore stirs up drama for her to feed on or is so narcissistic that she thinks her shite poetry is actually groundbreaking and would get a good review. Either way makes her insufferable.
@esobelisk3110 Жыл бұрын
@@chilibeer3912 the second option seems unlikely, given that rachel also made a negative review of her first poetry collection. gabbie has since claimed that she didn’t send out the copy for review, she just wanted rachel to have it for personal reading i guess? gabbie clearly didnt watch the video about bo burnham, which actually praises a lot of the pieces in the book. rachel talks about how the 'disappointing' aspect came from the fact that there's a few too many mediocre poems included, which is disappointing given the fact that they're coming from bo burnham who we know is an excellent writer. So it's not even close to the criticism of her own book, in which the mediocre poems represent the upper limits of quality instead of the lower limits.

This is actually a good point. I’ve watched Rachel’s videos on the topic, and while the title/thumbnail appears rather critical and potentially clickbait-y, the video itself was very fair and constructive. Interestingly, I’ve actually had to stop watching Jimmy Snow’s videos because of how he reacted to this whole situation. What I gathered from the situation is that Gabby is essentially ridiculously toxic, and Jimmy enabled her reactivity by publically commenting on the situation prior to fully grasping what was really going on. This led me to to stop watching his videos, as I no longer trust his assessments.

I like the way your hair looks in this video! Haven't watched it yet, I just love the shade of your hair. It's a really pretty blue :)
