Well - this is a reply from Gabriel's dad ..... Vertigo would be an issue that needs to be looked into, have what is causing it figured out, and then treated. I would suggest you get a referral from your doctor to go see an Ears, Nose and Throat Specialist. It could be something very simple that can easily be treated and if not - I would really suggest you find out pretty quickly. The Eustachian Tubes can become blocked, inner ear fluids can swirl around, there are a bunch of things - but go get it checked out. Not just for being able to continue training and competing if you wanted to, but just all things related to balance..... which is pretty much everything. I hope you are successful getting this taken care of. Keith

Re throwing 5-6 shots to land one, maybe I'm wrong, but to me it looks like pro MMA and kick boxing have evolved more in this direction, where shots aren't necessarily misses, but most of the time they aren't thrown with (not even close) the full strength. It's mostly about studying and conditioning the opponent, saving energy and waiting for the opportunity. In MMA this was quite different during Pride days, where almost everything was thrown with full strength. I was also under impression they were actually stronger. Maybe I was imagining this, but most of them were probably on steroids all the time, and probably higher dosage than nowadays.
@DaveElwoodCutter
@DaveElwoodCutter Жыл бұрын
It's something every Boxing and Kickboxing Coach will tell you and isn't a recent development (in MMA it is). Not everything is a power shot, most attacks are setups to land the few power shots. Traditional Muay Thai is a bit different as it's more single powershots rather than combinations but more contemporary combination heavy styles do the same. Also prevents gassing out. Which is why especially boxers tend to do it as they fight 12 rounds. Pride was crazy man. Everyone so obviously juiced to the gills (they still are today in every promotion just not as obviously in most cases) just trying to beat the shit out of each other with very limited striking proficiency except for a few fighters.

Do you have any advice for someone struggling with living in a small town that has virtually no competition because there are no schools? There are about 3 small kickboxing/muay thai in my town and now that I have rised beyond them I feel stuck. It's really depressing. I'm currently trying to my hardest to be able to move somewhere where there is more competition but I feel like my progress during training has really halted because there are so few people to train against. Also at this point I have been focusing on work more so I can move! I'm going on 22 and no one from my state has ever become a pro fighter. Anyway if anyone is reading this and is in a similar boat just know that sometimes the hardest battles are fought outside of the ring so don't give up!

Why don't you raise your own competition? Pick an enthusiastic guy out, challenge one another and spar repeatedly focusing on techniques instead of power or beating one another up. Gabriel gives good advice, then you can apply that when training.

What you say is true on the level of fighting, you forgot the other politics behind these sports to make it to the top though. Trainers putting more time into 1 fighter more than another, also the entertainment value of a fighter, i.e. if they look good fast hands or big punch etc then promoters will cherry pick fights and make them look better than they are for money making as they look good in limelight and also ticket sales, you can be best fighter in the world but if you can't sell tickets then they ain't making money off you.

Actually fight sports generally work the other way. One challenge Gabriel has always faced is he is usually the lightest fighter in any weight division he has ever fought in..... what does this mean? Fighters weigh in for a fight the day before - even in Gabriel's weight class, they have dieted, sweat and lost weight and they weigh in at 65 kg. The next day in the ring for the fight they will be 10 - 13 kg heavier than Gabriel. Everything else being close in skill level the much larger fighter will most always win - that is why they have weight classes as it makes a big difference. If you gain weight to move up in weight- the other fighters you face may well be losing 20 - 30 kg which they will have back in the ring for the fight. This would equal a huge disadvantage for you. Just my thoughts on this - others may have a different opinion Gabriel's dad - Keith

@@danielniels22 Wow - congratulations! You must feel great. It is not conceit, or false pride to feel happy with the way you look or the way you now feel. You worked hard an earned it. I came from a family that instilled as sense of "we have been given this incredible gift of our body and it is a bit like paying a mortgage on it - we owe the effort to keep it fit and healthy". More of a respect thing for the gift I am not saying that is the right way, the only way, the proper attitude - just the one I grew up with. I have been training/working out 5 or more times a week for 57 years now and it is wonderful to get older and not feel any different over you life. I am sure if you put me back into my 20 year old body and then slapped me back in this shell I would not be too happy - but if you train your whole life you have a very healthy, fit, energetic life where you do not puff or wheeze running up a few flights of stairs. If you say that the guys at 2nd, 1st and champ positions are the top 1% you are saying that there are only another 99 fighetrs practing that style. Those guys are realistically actually top 0.01% or less. We just weighed Gabriel an hour ago and he is up the huge whopping sum of 5 lbs. - that is it. He has a weight trainer for strength and conditioning training and it has taken him over a 1/2 a year to gain that muscle. Gabriel has been tested numerous times over the years for body fat content using every method - from under water weighing, to electric current to caliper. On average, year round - Gabriel comes in at around 5% - 6% body fat..... which is super low. All he has done is add a minimal amount of body weight but it really shows. Gabriel has been raised in a family where.... steroids / growth hormones / fake or unnatural method of getting stronger / bigger / improving performance are just STUUUUUPID - as his father - I have known people over the years who have died from using those things. Even those who have not died still pay a price and mostly look really awful from the effects of the crap they took. Just like that old adage about gaining weight " a moment on the lips - forever on the hips", performance enhancers would be something along the lines of "stronger and fake for a bit - suffer the health consequences till you die after a life of reduced capacity looking like crap down the road"!!!! So - long answer "No there are no PED's being used".
