I own a 4 light and it comes off the truck every job, it is kinda of heavy but since it is so flat and all the weight is over the handles its very manageable. I will be also buying the 9 light or the new 6 this year, when you need light volume and dont want to afford HMI's they are perfect :D

I would be very interested, the 4 in this video is still the only Luxed light in all of Victoria Australia.

@@gaffergear i can report that it is big, heavy, and bright. i ran it on a cherrypicker for half the night and it was awesome in that role, and as a key through a 12x12 full grid, a few points: it is so heavy and big that getting it onto a heavy duty wind up is nontrivial, be prepared to have 3 people with ladders do it or to lay the stand on the ground and then erecting the whole thing with at least 3 people (much safer). really, its almost as bad as the s360. so it might be as bright as a 4k hmi, but i can set up a 4k by myself. Other than dmx, there is no remotecontrol, so dmx is manditory (used a small wired controllbox, im not wireless yet). we had two generators, both 3.5 kva, one of them was a very rudimentary model probably meant to be used on construction sites and the luxed 9 did not like it at all, over 70% it just started flickering like crazy. the same generator ran an m18 and a skypanel without any problems, so it seems this light doesnt like dirty power. the other generator was a standart honda model and that worked fine. All in all, the fine controll you get over color and output in this powerfull a light is great, so once you get it set up youre alot faster. for me, ill use it again for studio stuff, or whenever i can put it on a big rolling stand and leave it there for the whole shoot. im still interested in getting the 4, or even the single

last job, I used tons of this lights. one set up is 30 spacelight configuration for white cyc and they save tons of electricity... another is I used 6 of 12 lights unit to mimic the cinema screen light with dmx control. they are incredible useful and easy to use. IN china the 4 unit one only price about 1100 usd...

Could this be a M18 replacement (well , with 20kg of unfortunately)? Looking for an "M18" LED Daylight for years... but no luck up to now. I found the single LUXED to weigh 4kg - so its each single light to be heavy, not the frame etc. Spectrum looks great!

At the max of 720 watts, it's still more than capable of being powered by a standard 120v outlet in the USA. Depending on the age of the building, an the circuit you're connecting to, you could power 2 or 3 of them off of one circuit.
@Paulthefonz
@Paulthefonz Жыл бұрын
I would only push it to 3 on a 20 amp circuit but even then, for this kind of output I have no idea when you would need 3 of these things in the same room of a house, worse case scenario very easy to run a line to another circuit.

Thanks so much! This is awesome info. I'm gonna have to do a deep dive into what all the numbers beyond TLCI mean but I'm glad it's is here for me to reference in the future. Out of curiosity did you pull the color rendition information from the manufacturer or meter it with a C700 or another meter?

The light looks awesome for its purposes as a space light or in a big studio but im not sure about it as an hmi replacement in the field. I wonder how the output compares to (4) forza 300 w/fresnel lenses on a triple header? I know the 4 forza 300 setup would be a bit more expensive, would draw more watts, not as physically large of light sources but it's a more versatile package for location.
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 4 жыл бұрын
This is less than 50% brighter than a Forza 500 with dish on. But this is bi-color

Thanks for that. Do you know what the beam angle is roughly?
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 4 жыл бұрын
I couldn't find any stats, but it felt like around 70 to 90 degrees to me. Badicly the beam is slightly wider than the distance to the subject. So if it was 3 meters away the beam was slightly wider than 3 meters. That was with the lenses pointing straight.

Most LED have a weak R9 or a weak R12. This is the only one I've found that had both above 90.

how would you think these compare with the Forzas you reviewed before which can be put as a cluster on one single lightstand or spread, or maybe down a corridor. Both $per lumen and also amount of times you would pick them? Im putting my money on some forza 300/500 being a better bet?
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 4 жыл бұрын
This is under 50% brighter than a forza 500 with its dish on
@haxstir
@haxstir 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I have a Forza 500 and I thought of clustering them in to a 6 formation, very tight together so the the reflector dishes would be touching. That would be quite a powerful light 3K Watts. I talked to Nanlite and they are suggesting a rig to their R&D.

Hi! I have question about lighting. Is there really any other reason of using tungsten lights at this time, other than the cheap price when compared to led? Thanks,
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 4 жыл бұрын
Complete colour render, and all tungsten colour match each other, regardless of brands.
@sammorganmoore
@sammorganmoore 4 жыл бұрын
If the camera is set to 3200 and the lights are not corrected with blue.. ie you are shooting in a blacked out studio or can filter/block any windows tungsten would get more lumen per $, and the light is great on skin. My mate has a 2k tung and it does good things for only a few $. Really he gets a lot of light for $150 compared to my $4k of LED

I am curious about the IP rating as I would love to key with this through windows and as for now I leave my M40 in whatever weather it is, it could replace my Arri M40. The 12 is only 14Kg difference which you easily make up when you dont need a generator, thick cables, gas and the M40 Ballast. If you cover the ballast you should be fine?
@johanlindqvist99
