Galaxy J5 Review - Samsung on a Budget?

My Review after spending a week with Samsung's new online exclusive Galaxy J5.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 is powered by the 64bit capable Snapdragon 410 chipset that houses 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.2 Ghz each coupled with an Adreno 306 GPU and 1.5 GB RAM.
There's 8GB of internal storage available and it also has a micro sd slot for memory expansion.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 houses a 13MP Rear Camera capable of capturing 1080p video and a 5MP front facing camera for selfies.
There's also a front facing flash included.
It sports a 5" 720P super amoled hd display with a 2600 mAh user replaceable battery...
The Galaxy J5 currently runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung's custom Touchwiz UI on top.

i bought this a couple of years ago. it served me good on the first 6 months but the 8gb memory is really crap despite expanding. today it's laggy asf and the only thing good today is the screen, it's always great.

I picked up this phone a week ago and i'm actually really happy with my purchase. i had a nokia lumia 625 before this phone so that could be the reason why i love this phone so much atm, but it's a decent phone for the price for sure.

Just go the "download" mode on the phone. It will let you know in the top left of the screen if the phone has a custom rom in it. Most of them have. So you can simply grab the official rom from the samsung and odin it in. As such, the bloatware you see in the video reduces by a good amount. At the same time, KNOX warranty is not void ;)

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend updating to Android Marshmallow 6.0, I hear it makes this phone slower and drains the battery life fast. I'd stick to Android Lollipop 5.0

Yet again, this device proves that the Snapdragon 410 + 720p display is the best combination for 99% of people. Minimal thermal issues including throttling, good enough performance for even games and great battery life with the 4 low power a53 cores. This is why I've also been recommending the Moto G 2015 over the throttle happy Moto X Play with the 615.

What Samsung fail to realize is that stock android is king in low end phones. Any low end phone with Touchwiz is a death sentence.

What would companies like Samsung do if Xiaomi keeps coming at them with great hardware at pretty reasonable pricing... (Mi4c launched at J7 pricing)? I think cutting corners with cost won't come in handy here as substantial in-roads have been made into Samsung's profits by Chinese smartphone makers! Need to do even better Samsung. Although, as an Indian I feel cheated as Xiaomi launched Mi4i in India with a weaker processor having heating issues terming it as a 'flagship device for India' and launched a much powerful variant of the same device for China (Mi4c). I do have a question for you, Ash... I'll ask soon :)
