Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Watch FE, a low-budget watch with features very similar to the Galaxy Watch 5 and the 3-year-old Galaxy Watch 4.
In fact, it is powered by the same w920 chip that powers the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5.

Design
In terms of build quality, the Watch FE has the same aluminum frame and sapphire glass as the Galaxy Watch 5. It also has the same 5ATM and IP68 waterproof rating which means it is safe to wear to the shower or while swimming. Moreover, it comes with the same 20mm standard strap as the Galaxy Watch 5.
However, while the Galaxy Watch 5 comes in 40 and 44mm sizes, the Galaxy Watch FE is only available in 40mm size.
Display
And just like the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5, the Galaxy Watch FE has a 1.2 inches AMOLED display with brightness up to 1000nits
Health tracking
Furthermore, the Galaxy Watch FE has the same health tracking features as the Galaxy Watch 5. It also features ECG and blood pressure measurements.
Storage
In terms of storage, the Galaxy Watch FE has 16GB storage capacity, the same as the Galaxy Watch 5. It also has a microphone and speaker and is available in Bluetooth and LTE models.
Performance and Operating system
Like I mentioned earlier, the 3-year-old dual-core 5nm Exynos W920 chip in Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 also powers the Galaxy Watch FE.
Meanwhile, even though Wear OS 5 was recently unveiled, the Watch FE will ship with Wear OS 4.
Although, like the Galaxy Watch 4, 5, and 6, it will get One UI 6 Watch-based Wear OS 5 later this year.
So in terms of performance, the Galaxy Watch FE will perform just as fast as the Galaxy Watch 5.
Battery life
The Galaxy Watch Fe packs a 247mAh battery capacity which is slightly lower than the 285mAh of 40mm Galaxy Watch 5.
But then, you can expect around the same up to 2 days of battery life with minimal usage.
So in all, what we have here is a Galaxy Watch 5 in a new case. Apart from the option of choice, I don’t think any of these is better than the other.
Galaxy Watch FE or Galaxy Watch 5, is great if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy Watch 6 and the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch FE with a €200 price tag is expected to start shipping in Europe from June 24th and should arrive in the US around August.
