Acela Express' Meet At 150 MPH Speed !!!

Күн бұрын

Taking a trip to Mansfield on an extremely bitter and cold rainy day, Michael Rodgers and I catch a rare occurrence of two Acela Express trains meeting at Mansfield at speed. This speed of 150mph for each train creates a closing speed of the 300mph respective to each train!
Enjoy!!

I’m from Sweden where they’re very good at high speed rail. In fact, that’s where the original X2000, or X2k, was built and I have been on that train from Gothenburg to Stockholm, about a 3 hour ride. It’s fantastic!! The original tilting train!!

"Train approaching. Please remain behind yellow line." For something like this, don't say "please." It's almost like saying that request is optional. The announcement should say "You must remain behind yellow line, unless you want your body parts picked up from the tracks and placed in a sack." That yellow line is awfully narrow, for something passing you at 150 mph.
@WKPExpressMovies
@WKPExpressMovies 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. In germany maximum speed on platforms is 200 km/h (124 mph) and the lines are much wider. And on platforms where trains pass faster there are barriers along the line. Fastest track on a platform is 230 km/h (143 mph). Something like shown in that video would be unimaginable.
@roachtoasties
@roachtoasties 3 жыл бұрын
@@WKPExpressMovies Agree again! That all too narrow yellow strip at the edge of the platform I've seen all over a place. It must be one company that makes it, with them thinking "one size fits all." I think the problem in the U.S. are companies, transportation agencies, governments, etc., are too concerned about their customer service image, so it's all "please" and "thank you." For a train track, forget about the "please" and "thank you." Just say, "If you stand too close, you'll die an agonizing death." That will get people's attention.

Just think, these trainsets started operation in the year 2000. Now, in 2021 they will start to be retired for the new Acela replacing it. These trains have done their job although the switches between the cars have been a trouble spot over the years that need a lot of maintenance to keep the trains running. Hopefully the new trains will eliminate that maintenance concern.

RD4590 For my surprise this speed is true. For instance first pass as camera lost focus. Acela trainset has length of 203 meters. It took 3 seconds since first part of Acela passed first point of yellow line and the same for last part of Acela. Now the math. 203 meters divided by 3 seconds gives speed 67,66 m/s. After conversion this means either 244 km/h or 152 MPH, which is quite close to Acela's max speed.
