The plaintiff says the defendant is his son, and he’s concerned about his gambling addiction and wants to get him some help. He’s suing him for two unpaid loans. The defendant says his father took him to the racetrack as a child, and he’s had a gambling problem his whole life.

Gambling will take everyone and everything you care about. It’s a serious addiction whether you realize your addicted or not. So because he doesn’t gamble at the race track, the father doesn’t have any responsibility for introducing his young son to the life? So if a parent introduces their child to crack, but the child grows up to prefer heroin, the parent is free from accountability? JM is such a flip flopper bc other cases he’s let the parents know they were wrong.

I agree. I don't understand that comment from Judge Mathis. His father introduced him to gambling. How does his choice of location to gamble change that? It does not mean the son can continue to blame his father and not hold himself accountable. But it does tell how he became interested in gambling. To ignore this important fact makes no sense to me.

The father looks like Quincy Jones. This story sounds similar, just different scenarios. So many children, do exactly what they see parents ,relatives , friends do and too often end up costing parents hardships and heartaches. Children use parents!!! Gambling is addictive sometimes worse than shopping. I hope this young man will get his addiction out of his system! Gambling causes people to be homeless. His father, really loves his son Many of us have been and still going through similar situations. Now that Bobby has a son, prayerfully he will stop Gambling and put his money to more stable investments like a home for his son. The mother must have had no child support to have had to to move to public housing which attributed to Bobby getting in trouble. Father and son Shake hands but don't hug. Children often don't appreciate their parents until they are no longer alive and then still. look for what they can get.

Now I usually agree with Judge Mathis, but he got it wrong on this one! Up to the age of 7 children are sponges and if his father took him to the race track HIS FATHER ABSOLUTELY TAUGHT HIM ABOUT GAMBLING! It doesn't matter what type of gambling he's doing, he was taught the concept of gambling during his formative years by the most important authority figure in his life! So parents, be careful what you choose to pour into your children, especially during the formative years.

You missed the WHOLE point! His father perhaps NEVER had a father that taught him gambling in his formative years, hence he has no addiction to it. It is quite different to learn a habit in adulthood as opposed to being introduced to it in the formative years of childhood. It is the same with ANY addiction, you will find that people introduced to alcohol before reaching adulthood tend to struggle with addiction to alcohol and the same goes for ANY vice introduced in childhood... sex, drugs, gambling, etc.

I don’t think the son is a bad person at all. He seems to be respectful and understanding of his wrong doings. Just like any other addiction, gambling grabs ahold of you tight and will make you do things you thought you’d never do to get that next “high”.. also, JM, gambling is gambling! Just because he didn’t go to the race tracks doesn’t mean his father didn’t play a part in his addiction. He could remember the excitement of it all and that’s the reason he started in the first place! Say a parent gets their teenager high on heroin for the first time but that kid grows up to be addicted to meth or crack.. you gonna sit up there and say “oh well, since you gave them H, it wasn’t your fault..” that doesn’t make any sense! Again, consistency. You bash some parents for the same thing you go easy on others for.
