That sun on 1:28:10 is smiling then it turns to a massive grin when Pit's wings fall off. The sun loves a good death plummet. Most nihilistic ending to a kid's game ever 😂

I've had this game since 1999. Now I have finally conquered the game. It has literally taken me 20 YEARS to finish this game! FINALLY!

The first boss is the farthest I have ever gotten in this game.

I love the very ending of this game, the sun is totally trolling Pit.

The nostalgia is astronomical with this one.

The bosses have way too many health points. That board with the minotaur took me 15 minutes, 7 of which were the boss fight.

I love how at the end, we assume he dies (PRETTY sure that if you reached the sun and you lost your wings and you fall that you're gonna die) and how the sun smiles at him like, "HAHA! I just killed you!"

You make it look so easy. This game is actually very hard. XD

Ah. I love old games.

Legendary game of my childhood, which i never owned myself, instead 3 of my friends back then owned it and i played it with them. To sum it up: Stages 1-x: fine, some things scared us and we avoided them (the rooms with the bats for example) 1st Boss: insanely difficult, i dont know how many countless unsuccessful attempts i had. At some point we thought this boss was unbeatable. This went on for almost 2 years (!!). Then, i tried him again, completely relaxed by the opinion that he is unbeatable, was able to hang on for a while - still relaxed - survived longer and shot him like crazy and - suddenly - he vanished. Even now i remember this moment of: WHAT, I BEAT HIM!!! :D Stages 2-x: very cool, i liked them. Love those white "feet" (:D) that fall down and give tons of money 2nd Boss: overall fine. Very easy, compared to the completely and utterly overpowered 1st Boss. Beat him directly in first attempt. Maybe 1st and 2nd boss should've been switched. Stages 3-x: Way more difficult, but fine and cool. The labyrinth of 3-3 is nice. 3rd Boss: Difficult, but fine, since its the last boss of the train. Needed several attempts (maybe 5-6). Last stage: Difficulty-wise its fine, but really disappointing that this is everything we trained so hard for. Last Boss: 1st part is like a weaker version of the fire snake, 2nd part is fine - overall it could have been harder. Beat him at the 2nd attempt, because in 1st attempt i didnt figure out how to beat him in the 2nd part :D TLDR; 1st Boss is completely OP, rest is fine and cool. Nice memories

wow I remembered this game as a kid. loved it and beat it but very challenging .

you are the king of this game. that was amazing. perhaps the best playthrough I've seen and you show us where everything is even though you don't need it. also, this game is so much harder than people realize, way harder than the big NES platformers. I knew kids in like first and second grade who had beat metroid and castlevania, no kid had beat kid icarus.

If you thought NES was the *only* Kid Icarus game that existed before Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you were most certainly wrong, even though the Game Boy is a *retro* platform too.

This was one of my childhood games. I never beat it. I remember getting to the final stage, in the clouds, and I had two of three special items. Thus, I was never be able to beat it. I think I was missing the wings, I'm not sure. Thanks for putting this one up!

I had the first level music stuck in my head for literally 30 years and didn't remember where it came from! I just knew it was a GB game from the early 90's. HOLY SHIT. I was probably like 5 or 6 years old.

Very nice playthough. This must be one of the best games for game boy. The attention to detail and everything else is just superb. They did a great job. I find this better than the nes version.

Oh, i played this game in childhood. It was insanely hard at least in boss stages. First one was like impossible to me. First i tried to spam him with arrows with no luck, after that i was supercareful to shot them in most safe points to no get hit. these fights was like forever! funny thing, its getting much easier closer to end and final boss fight is actually pretty predictable and easy. Thing i liked most is that ending sequence (great music here) and that great. albeit weird reference to Icarus myth in the end with wind and sun.

I should point out that with a powered up bow, the first boss takes FIVE WHOLE MINUTES to defeat.

For some reason this game scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

@5:25 Actual, in "Of Myth and monsters" you can collect the items from treasure rooms and break more pots, unlike the first game.

This Kid Icarus game was actually done by the infamous Those and was never released in Japan.

And thus the Kid Icarus flew too close to the sun. Good going Pit.

They should honestly remake this game, just like they did with Metroid II: Samus Returns. Just keep the classic designs and give it an art style similar to the Link's Awakening remake.

Thankfully don't need a 3DS to enjoy this great forgotten (at least for a long time it was) title, picked up a copy with a not so great conditioned label a year ago. All I got to do is fire up my GBA and I can enjoy Kid Icarus Of Myths and Monsters anytime.

Why would they leave out the eggplant wizard at the ending when showing all the other enemies? He’s got to be the most iconic enemy from Kid Icarus.

this is something I couldn't figure out. How come you could use the long bow, fire arrows, and shield in the mazes in this Kid Icarus game, but not the original for the NES?!?!?! Pit's wings actually work in this game too, but not the NES version... why??

I've had this Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters game since 1998 for the Nintendo Game Boy. I've owned and played it since 5th grade in early '98 (during 1997-98) and I still can't find it.

Fantastic Gameboy game.

First game I ever beat. Best music.

Man i though this game was gonna be way shorter, maybe it was beacuse i dind't know the bosses had some many HP and the fact that you may need to grind to get powerups. Also the ending lmao.

What muddlehead composed the music for this game? The original Kid Icarus for the NES was very memorable - and the Gameboy has the power for very good music (compare for instance with Belmont's Revenge)

My preference remains the Nintendo Entertainment System Kid Icarus, but this game served as an enjoyable substitute in the years before I was able to obtain a used cartridge of the NES game.

I always got the "Failed to complete training" even though I went through ever damn door in the game and finish the training I was given in every stage and STILL didn't get all three treasures. Pisses me off.

They have this in virtual console in Europe and Japan, but sadly not in America :( I have beaten the Nes and Kid Icarus Uprising, this is only one i need to complete left!

Bur that deosn't explains the presence of the Three Sacred Treasures as they were destroyed by Hades in Uprising.

It's a pity they couldn't inherit the ost from the nes version
