It's not metal shavings. That's what they're saying...I hope that's what it is, but I'm thinking it's not. It's a newly designed engine here in the states. It's not a basic simple motor.

His assumption of 50% is flawed! This is a voluntary safety recall! The only reason that the other hybrid engines are not on the recall is because the hybrid motor will take over if the engine fails and safely move the vehicle off the road!

Responsive??? These engines have been failing for over 2 years and they often tried accusing owners of causing the failure. Also, Toyota didn't fix all of them and back when that was going on they made a point to change their new vehicle warranty to state that it's "normal" for their engines to burn 1 quart every 1,200 miles so they wouldn't be forced to warranty hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of engines in the future. The 3rd gen Tacoma has had terrible rear diff howling issues after they moved production of their rear axles from the US to Thailand. They denied the issue existed and then they eventually began to state that it's just "resonance" and normal. Any shop that knows about ring & pinion howling would say that the gears are poorly machined or improperly set up. Still nothing done to address it fully.

It's certainly not just debris in the engine from the manufacturing process. These engines seem to frequently fail at around 20-30k miles. If it was caused by debris, they would be failing much sooner and the mileage would be more random. It doesn't add up. But deception isn't out of character for Toyota when it comes to reliability issues.

As a 2022 Tundra Engine Owner I will not let them touch my engine unless it blows first. Engine shavings are gone after your first oil change. I changed my oil every 3 thousand miles. The repairs are ridiculous, they are short blocks and they only replace the short block and the tech has to disassemble the entire engine and put it back like a puzzle. @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROADthey said debris in the engine, but didn't say where. It can be from drilling oil galley ,oil passages, so you won't see it in the pan. It can be trapped in the oil passages that supply oil to the main bearing and cause a oil restriction.
@jonesjones7057
@jonesjones7057 29 күн бұрын
@@rottenrottie1515 EXACTLY. And I'm betting shavings are getting to the main crank bearing and jamming right there in the hole just grinding those shavings right into the crank and slowing oil flow. That said, I am suspicious that there is some sort of other issue. Could be low oil volume from the oil pump at low RPM. This engine produces so much torque at low RPM, that could be a problem, especially with such thin oil. Also, I'm wondering if that iron cradle that holds the crank bearings is expanding at a different rate than the aluminum that aupports it (basically the entire engine), being aluminum. Maybe closing the gap between bearing and crank reducing clearance. The tolerances are incredibly small. Even a couple thousandths of an inch could damage the bearings and crank. I don't know, we may know someday.
@abw121
@abw121 29 күн бұрын
As a tech with 25 years of Toyota engine experience. The main flaw of these new V6 turbos is the 10,000 mile oil change, lower oil viscosity and metal shavings making its way into oil supply of crank bearings! Causing starvation of oil and super heating bearing and failure! Short block replacement will be fix as approved by Toyota? Which means pulling of old engine rebuilding with new short block! Just remember all the body parts have to be pulled to get to engine? And using old heads and assemblies that had contaminated oil passing through system! Not a great remedy at all?

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD it's true but manufacturers are building cars that last 5 years. I think Toyota has been unconsciously trying to do the same. The metal shavings is a bigger issue because it has to do with them overlooking something. If it's a valve or a bearing issue then that had to do with an engineering and design issue. Those things can't be avoided when releasing a new platform. Metal shavings in two different factories in different countries is a manufacturering reflects how the factories manage their workers. Or some new machinary proceeded to save cost. Toyota did praise tesla for their clever methods to save cost and be more efficient, maybe that had something to do with it?

And there were Toyota/Lexus techs on forums a few years ago saying the LS500 engines were seizing. They only sold about 20,000 before the Tundra was released. Obviously the ones you see on the road don't have problems at the moment. The GX550 is made in Japan. I'm betting they don't have any issues. I can't find a recall on the LC300 3.44 twin turbo...

If you own one of these Toyota Models, should you worry about it? YES, you should. Taking your car in for recall work on it will cost you. To work on your engine, they will have to take your car a part, and that is where and when your car will depreciate due to the body work process. WE ALL KNOWS, Every time you take your car in for a major job, they will break one thing wild fixing another and in this case they will make your car looks like 10 years old work truck, with dents, chips and scratches on the body.. Watch those KZfaq videos from ppl who had their trucks in for this warranty issue.. it's only 4 of them now, but not every owner of this model are a youtuber..

They don’t know that they have issues yet. Maybe these engines went through a certain line. I’m sure there’s probably a machine that cleans the blocks, etc after machining, which might be the issue. You shouldn’t say that the design isn’t good because of a contamination problem.

Nope. This issue has been found in engines built both in USA (Tundra) & in Japan (LX). Highly unlikely it was just a contamination problem since it’s impacted more than one factory

Toyota/Lexus apparently is ONLY going to replace part of the engine called a short block meaning they are going to reuse the top of the engine; valves, cam shafts, etc. This is a huge mistake as metal shavings are contaminating the oil which is distributed throughout the entire engine including the cam shafts, etc.

"machining debris" that went unnoticed for years. The fix for this would need to be engine replacement since the damage would already be done vs replacing a valve spring. Some owners have had replacement shortblocks but "debris" in the engine could have made it to the turbos since the oil is shared...
