Activating Ghost Mode in Ghost of Tsushima. Seeing all the enemies start freaking out and then just cutting through everyone in front of you was the most badass feeling I’ve had in gaming in a long while.

Whether Falcon is unhappy when making a list, or truly enjoying himself, his unleashed passion is so infectious. Love it!

Throwing the Leviathan axe over a cliff, walking around for half hour and press triangle and waiting for that axe to land right on your hand is soooooo satisfying 😁

Surprised Infamous Second Son didnt get a mention here. Every ability in that game felt so badass, smoke and Neon especially. The movement and the particle effects were top notch for a game that was so early in the ps4 life cycle.

You can also call your axe in god of war during a combo when u don’t have it. Instead of pressing triangle, throw ur axe, sprint , L2 +R1. This will automatically call back the AXE and HE DOES A POWER SLAM THAT DOESNT NEED ANY RUNIC. Pretty cool

I like throwing the axe as far away as possible and then the recall isn’t just a teleport the axe actually travels in real time back to Kratos. Really awesome.

I know it's an old game already - but getting a Takedown in Burnout 3: Takedown was one of the most awesome gaming abilities I've ever experienced. The way the visuals and sound design complemented it - hearing a high note, slowing down to focus on the crashed car, a section is added to the boost meter with a sonic boom, then rushing back to focus on your car as the view blurs from speed, and the boost meter fills with fire that you can hear burning like a jet engine. Truly a masterpiece of game design.

Vergil is literally so badass that an easy combo tutorial single handedly boosted sales of DMC5

Just started playing Control. The whole game feels like it belongs on this list.

Maya's phaselock ability in Borderlands 2, with converge, ruin and a full kit of elemental upgrades. Phaselock lets you immobilize one bad guy in a bubble so you can then unload on the poor bastard without him shooting back. Converge yoinks every enemy in the region towards the phaselocked target like a black hole; if it was just those two, you could follow up a phaselock with a grenade to just shred the jujubees out of everything, but then ruin causes a blast of fire, corrosive, shock and slag to everything in the area. You can't really do this until late in the game(I wanna say you need to be level forty something before you get both abilities fully upgraded), but once you can you can pretty much stomp around clearing out rooms like a bamf.

I love that falcon takes his time to fly to the studio and talk to us.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - calling the rain of arrows on the ennemies One of the most badass move of all time when you do it while slowly walking towards a large group of ennemies

You can't talk about the Ghost Stance without talking about how you aquire the Ghost Stance. You are defending the city of Yarikawa from a Mongol invasion, the enemy has broken through the final wall and is in the castle courtyard preparing to storm the keep. You come out of the shadows and viciously decapitate the enemy general in front of his men, then absolutely slaughter his best warriors while they are paralyzed by fear. This leads to a full rout as the Mongols flee in fear at the very sight of you as you carve through the entire army like butter. It is easily one of the most satisfying moments in gaming history. "Flee, you cowards! Warriors of Yarikawa! Hunt the Mongol dogs! Slay them to a man!" So fucking cool

“Embrace the Darkness” Jedi survivor, very underrated.

Lightning Storm from infamous, will always be my all time favorite move. It felt electrifying using the controller to steer it, into whatever direction you wanted to go.

I’d also like to add: the way you can interact with enemies using your lantern in Lords of the Fallen.

My favorite mechanic in Ghost of Tsushima is a subtle one, but a good one, if you play the flute when its storming the skies clear and the sun starts shining its amazing doing that after you clear a camp because the fight usually creates a storm, it's so dynamic.

That MAX PAYNE move will forever be the most bad ass ability in video gaming. STRAIGHT GANGSTA!

The Fear Multi Takedown in Batman Arkham Knight is super badass too. It was downright revolutionary and mindblowing the first time it was featured and shown in the game and there wasn't anything like that back then across all games. And god does it feel badass, like it really makes you feel like you are the Dark Knight kicking serious ass and tearing the criminals apart. It is a sad thing that Gotham Knights or Suicide Squad never had such features.

I thought the God of War axe recover would of been for when you catch an enemy on the way back to your hand??? THAT'S BAD ASS!

The special abilities in AC Odyssey was absolutely badass. Being able to Spartan kick an enemy off a cliff was badass as hell!

That Izuna Drop just reminded me of when I was a game tester on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. After buying a series of move unlocks by spending experience (you need this move unlocked to unlock that one, etc), you can get this juggle a lot like that Izuna Drop. Plus I liked to include this optional decorative thing, I think called Flurry, where if you pause a moment between sword slashes you do some decorative swirls in between slashes - which seemed to mean more hits too. So this juggle move could be with or without the decorative sword twirling. He'd slash one way, slash the other, do a force stomp to pop the enemy in the air, I think slash jump up with him, then a slashing slam to the ground. If the enemy was the right strength (strong enough to survive that long, but able to be defeated by the whole combo), he'd be disintegrated by that last slash. I think the ONLY way to disintegrate an enemy short of putting him into something destructive like a force field. As a game tester I abused my tools to pause the action and move the camera to get some pictures of this from the side, including the disintegrating enemy, :) I just loved doing this to every enemy I could, I would usually get all the required moves unlocked by a planet called Felucia, and the Felucians were nicely the right strength for this, :)

Shadow of mordor ability are too badass

Umm.. as a huge GoW fan, yes the axe recall is awesome by itself, but does anyone realize WHY manual recall exists? 1) Tactics. You can keep one enemy frozen with the axe while you pound another with your shield and fists. 2) It's required for puzzle mechanics. 3) THIS IS THE BIG ONE! It allows for special moves like the recall hammer.. or whatever it's called lol. It's been a hot minute since I've last played this.. but basically, if you have the move unlocked and Kratos' axe isn't in his hand, you can perform a move (multiple moves I believe), with full and awesome animation sequences, where Kratos will recall the axe mid-fight, or while running at an enemy and grab it in the air and slam it down on an enemy. Seriously.. I'm not explaining it properly to give it enough credit. Gameranx should have mentioned this as the "special move." Go look up the axe recall combos on KZfaq and you'll see what I mean. Oh.. also.. it's just bad ass that Kratos' is equally as strong as Thor's hammer, and they both kind of work the same way. Kratos' axe doesn't have "infinite weight" but it's indestructible and can (seemingly) slice through anything. It can't help him fly like Thor's hammer does when he throws it with enough force.. but it does recall the same way the hammer does and will pass through or around ANYTHING to get back to Kratos. Sometimes it's fun just to throw it as far as you can and then recall it just to hear it cut through wood, rock, etc. and whoosh it's way back to you lol. It's an AWESOME game mechanic, but the skill of being able to throw it at one enemy while attacking another and then recall it mid-fight for a massive combo hit is just... 😗 chef's kiss!

Honestly, that power lighting storm power fantasy from Infamous actually made into the demo. And it was such fun skill to use, that it's the primary factor that got me to grab that game.

I feel that either the Maelstrom or Meteor from Dragons Dogma and DD2 deserve a mention. Calling in a Literal Tornado, watching enemies sucked into it or calling in a meteor shower in an action game is peak sorcery lol

On the subject of Kratos calling his axe back what makes it even cooler is when you're fighting & mid combo call it back while simultaneously landing a power shot on numerous enemies. That really made it over the top to me

Dragons Resurgence from Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth was amazing and a great callback to the older games, i really loved Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth as a send off for Kiryu-san but man, i'm sure going to miss him, what a saga, i'll never forgot the series and it will stick with me for life

Vergil is still a badass boss when you unlock him as a playable character unlike in other video games.

I'm glad you mentioned all the bullet-time stuff in the Max Payne games, even though some of those games are old. It made playing those so much fun.

"Psi-Ops" needs and honourable mention. The abilities in that game were revolutionary for its time.

"Who needs a sword when you got your freaking foot" is a sentence I don't know that I've ever heard before or will again.

The ghost stand was very cool when I played Tsushima, especially when they introduced it first time in the Mongol battle inside the castle, it was so epic when the whole army started running away from you with terrifying screams, it was fantastic.

Man, I remember Mass Effect 3 when they had multiplayer. There was one special biotic class I unlocked and maxed out. The powerful combos I would dish out on a bass-enhanced surround system just absolutely made me feel like a god.

The Tiger Drop from Yakuza series,Issen Counter from Onimusha,Tendril Barrage from Prototype,Musou Attacks from Dynasty/Samurai Warriors franchise are some of the most flashiest badass moves you could pull in a video game.

Unrelenting Force should have been an honorary mention at least. I spent the whole video waiting for it. Few things have ever come close to the feeling of being charged by a group of bandits and blasting them down a mountain with a well placed fus ro dah.

Just Cause 4 not being on here is actually hilarious to me.

Honorable mention to "Chain Assassinate" in GoT, I've literally never felt like more of a badass than when using that ability.

I like the Dragon Age Inquisition Knight Enchanter class spirit sword, it makes a mage who usually stand at the rear and dodging enemy aggro became a literal warrior charging ahead. It just makes other classes pales in comparison. Hope the new DA create awesome classes like this

What I like about calling back the axe is when an enemy is in front of you it hits the enemy, and yes the sound it makes when it flies back and you grab it is so satisfying

The symbiote ground combo in web of shadows was great since time slows down for each move, and it's not even necessary for enemies around for the full combo to be made. You just obliterate an entire block in front of you anytime you want

Can't argue with #1. Plus the way it's introduced within the story is one of the great epic moments in gaming.

The use of the lightning counter in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a brilliant design choice that makes a lot of sense. Performing the counter mid-air adds a layer of realism, considering it's electricity we're dealing with. Staying grounded would mean you'd get electrocuted due to the current, so the mid-air mechanic is not only a cool gameplay feature but also scientifically sound. It’s small details like these that make the game so immersive and thoughtfully crafted! Similarly, the Dead Eye ability in Red Dead Redemption 2 is another fantastic mechanic that elevates the gameplay. Apart from allowing you to take down multiple enemies in one move, it also lets you achieve seemingly impossible feats, like getting a headshot on a running animal... from horseback!... WITH A BOW!. That’s an almost impossible shot in real life, but pulling it off in the game makes you feel like an absolute badass XD

KoA Reckoning (An absolutely Hidden Gem) has some of my favorite abilities in fantasy RPGs The Mage tree has 3 badass ultimates, one where you summon a bigass Meteor, Tempest where in a very Thor fashion you rain down a bunch of Lightning and Winter’s Embrace where you summon a howling blizzard that chases and damages and slows enemies The Warrior has Wrath where you “Force pull” enemies towards you afterwards you jump up lifting everyone around you and slam them downwards as you fall down. It looks badass The Rogue tree has Gambit which is simple but super fun to use. You charge up the ability and then leap backwards while throwing a bunch of tripmines in front of you. The combat is hella fun, I highly recommend it

Calling the axe back in GoW looks like calling your board back in Skate 2.

I picked a bad time to take a bite of something crunchy, because for number 10 the symbiotic yank, Falcon says “You just whip out a bunch of tentacles…”, but all I heard was “You whip out a bunch of testicles…” and that’s an entirely different Spider-Man game altogether.

The telekinesis in control where you rip concrete from the floor and wall and throw it is the coolest thing I've used. The sound effect definitely adds to its allure.

Force repulse in force unleashed is deserving of this list for sure. Stormtroopers disintegrating as they fly away is just so cool

vergil judgement cut was so iconic, that his character and moveset alone spawn multiple discounted walmart version of it on mobile game.

Would like to add Middle Earth 1&2 game's teleport with chain killing enemies, so BADASS!! And Assassin's Creed Brotherwood raining arrows on enemies with signal! And I know Vergil's Judgement cut is iconic but man DMC 5 Dante's Sin Devil triggers's "The Judgement" move imo is one of the most badass ability I've ever seen in gaming history, soooo cool to watch! And in Sekiro Mortal Draw is as equally badass as Mikiri counter❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Jedi survivor end game slow effect should 100% be here. Two hitting most enemies and severely damaging the most toughest droids is insane.

God Hand, using special roulette moves and unleashing the god hand to buff your normal attacks, speed, and you're also invincible. It just blew me away when I played it at 8 years old. Being able to use different powerful moves to wipe out groups of enemies and deal massive damage to bosses. Probably the best PS2 game for me.

I remember every game practically has a special meter with some kind of badass move behind it. Feels a bit rarer nowadays. One of the reasons I love freeform combat orientated games a bit more. They make you feel so badass
