Where Are These PlayStation Franchises?

Sony owns a fair few iconic franchises - many dating right back to the original PlayStation. But while we’re pretty familiar with the likes of ongoing series such as God of War, Horizon, and Gran Turismo, there are plenty of PlayStation franchises that haven’t seen the light of day in a long time. So in this video, we’re going to be taking a look at the status of PlayStation’s many IPs, and checking in on when we last heard from them.
From Ape Escape to Uncharted via the likes of lost franchises like Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, and Killzone, Sony have a long list of IPs in their back catalogue. But while some of them, including God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Horizon have seen big success recently, there are plenty more that Sony have left on the back burner. This video dives into every PlayStation franchise to take a look at each series' status and gauge whether we might see some of them again.

Socom conformation was highly underrated. Albeit with its glitches and crashes, I would pay top dollar for another socom with similar play styles and atmosphere. One of the undisputed GOATS during PS3 era

Just wanna mention this since it wasn't mentioned in the video, but Days Gone, Gravity Rush, Jak & Daxter, and Horizon all have films &/or shows that are in some form of development. Also, Sly Cooper & the Thievius Raccoonus will be playable on both PS4 & PS5 this month, without needing to stream The Sly Collection via PS Plus Premium.

Yeah, it is unfortunate though. Games like Resistance, Killzone, Jak and Dakster and InFamous deserve more love but I understand where those studios are right now. Bloodborne… I like to think that the stars just haven’t lined up for From Software and Sony to work on a sequel. If we never get one I’ll be okay.

@@nicholasvaccaro4826unfortunately this is true since we got a good look at sales when those Insomniac files were stolen. Although since Rift Apart was so early in the PS5’s lifecycle and they were hard to find I would hope that it would have sold a little better than its 1-3 million copies. Good news is I hear there is a small team currently working on the next R&C game. We’ll find out for sure when this new Astro Bot game releases. I personally love these action platformers and really hope it sells so we continue to get more

We need -a Killzone Collection remaking 1 and remastering 2+3 for the 20th anniversary -a new Motorstorm that's either a whole new game or just a compilation of the best tracks from the past games -a new Socom game, even a digital-only multiplayer release would suffice -a remastered collection of Resistance 1-3 for 2026 -a new Sly Cooper game -an Ico remake like SotC got for PS4

You missed the Buzz! Series. But I suspect that was so you could go from bloodborne directly to Demon Souls. Launching on the PS2 in 2005 with the music quiz, it went on to have entries covering sports film and general knowledge. And went on to have games on the PS3 AND PSP. The last game released in 2010.

I'm saving up to get a PC by the end of the year so maybe I'll emulate it when I can. I remember watching my older brother play it a handful of times, and it's managed to remain in the back of my mind all this time.

Syphon Filter, Tenchu, Killzone, Resistance, Socom. While the whole industry has lost it's way chasing live service money makers, Sony could be making a killing with all their dormant IPs with single player and small scale MP... but Sony had to chase live service too.

I was obsessed with the cinematic games (circa God of War 2018) - but I am SO tired of them now. Just make me a GAME please, if I wanted a emphasis on story then I’d read a book or watch a show.

Prince of Persia is a great example of this, the franchise was abandoned over a decade ago, and this year two games have come out within quick succession - both look and play completely different. Like - imagine a new Manhunt indie game that looks and plays similar to Hotline Miami.

The disrespect to Sly is wild. They left that man stuck in the past and never looked back. Not only that, but Sly was supposed to be among the 1st PS IPs to get a media adaption. At first it was going to be a movie, but after Ratchet and Clank flopped, Sony got cold feet and decided it should be a show instead. They had a studio and everything picked out for it and when they launched their own new division dedicated to turning their IPs into shows, Sly was one of the first assigned in like 2019. 5 yrs later and we've gotten Twisted Metal, Last of Us, an Uncharted movie, God of War in the works, Ghost of Tsushima in the works, Horizon in the works, and many more and meanwhile Sly is nowhere to be seen despite being one of the original works first in line for something. And its not even like they forgot about him because they keep including him in IP posters, franchise montage trailers, cameos in games like the newest Ratchet and Clank, references in Ghost of Tsushima and Astro, etc. Yet we cant get a new game, a short, or even a modern remake of his older stuff. Especially since a game like Sly Cooper is still original and unique in its mechanics and concept to this day. Theres are practically no AAA games and not very many, if any, indies that play like it does. Being able to play 3 separate characters with their own unique styles in a single campaign and mission type and then it culminates in one big intertwined objective.

I’d like to see another Jumping Flash! I always loved the soundtrack and the platforming was unique and ahead of its time. I feel it would be perfect for VR, but it’d probably cause motion sickness for a lot of people lol.

Sony would be raking in a lot of money if they brought back some of their older franchises. Many gamers are from those areas and would happily buy these games for nostalgia. Sure, Medievil didn't live up to expectations, but only because they advertised it at the same time they advertised the PS5. With sensible people in charge, they could successfully bring back Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, Infamous, Resistance, and Killzone

I honestly think for Sony to consider to bring back Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter series, Astro Bot needs to do well, it has a similar wacky style. So please ps5 users, buy Astro Bot, it looks hella fun and let's they will revive Sly Cooper, I really enjoyed the series.

While a lot of these franchises are clearly dead and not coming back, I'd love to see Jak, Sly, Killzone, and InFamous come back in some form. A Syphon Filter game could be pretty interesting too since outside of Hitman, the stealth genre is pretty lacking atm (outside of MG3 remake and Splinter Cell remakes). Also RIP Motorstorm, one of the best arcade racers.

With CoD becoming a possible exclusive for Xbox in the future, titles like Killzone and SOCOM could rise from the ashes. LocoRoco & Patapon are titles Playstation could introduce in the mobile market.

Killzone needs to comeback before anything else. After all, Sony currently has no exclusive FPS. I genuinely miss those days when FPS games use to have great single player campaign. PS studios knows how to create a great narrative experience.
