Awesome. Im going through all of these videos, and the subjects you raise are all interesting. One critique though. It would be great if you gave more of and intro to yourself and your guest to give a bit more of a background to who they are in the space. Also Maniac Mansion is awesome, and i do like the first Unreal 😅🤣

Thanks for checking out the channel! And I appreciate the feedback, I’ll definitely make a note of that going forward. More of an intro for the guests makes sense, I often forget that the audience is seeing a relative stranger. Glad you’re enjoying the videos!

I would think Karateka (1984) has a lot of what would fit your definition of cutscenes. The game would just be a standard beat 'em up if it wasn't for cutting away to the story elements as you progress. Instead, you see what is happening with Akuma (the boss) and the Princess. Sure, they are simpler, but there were fewer resources available, but they still took the time to flesh out the story. BTW: It is worth the effort to track down and load a good sound font and turning on Midi music if you like that first song in Maniac Mansion.

I always prioritize storytelling over gameplay, which is a hot take

Need me some Unreal Tournament 4 and 5, I'm dyin' out here. 😢 Love the unprompted, time-based cutscene bit though, movie (podcast) magic, baby.

You’re officially invited whenever I throw the cross-platform LAN party for Unreal Tournament 99, which I believe can be played over LAN between PC, Mac, PS2, and Dreamcast.
