Its literally been around for over a decade. Bethesda just doesn't know how to make modern games. And refuses to use a different engine, though even Skyrim engine can climb ladders with mods.

We all know how unreal engine can perform with good graphics and gameplay. It will better for the game to be delayed until 2024 than to have a bad game like cyberpunk.

yep, now people got so frustrated by it and asking for stairs. that said, I don't think there are any climbable ladders at all outside of ships.

Your massively overcomplicating what climbing a ladder takes. You have a "climbing state" that removes all physics and enters the climbing animation, and positions the player at the ladder. If the user pushes up then run the climbing animation and increase the position. If the push down, do the opposite. This functionality predates the personal gaming console. And even if they did need to do all of what you said, it already exists. They have a very good physics engine and great collision mechanics ever since fallout 4. They dont have to remake that for each scenario... the code is reusable.

I'm not buying a Bethesda game that puts me into a loading screen to climb a ladder. I dont care.

it's only hard because creation engine is incapable of doing anything but sending the character forward along the navmash. animations concerning the player are extremely limited, bashing animations from fallout 4 are probably the most complicated thing I've seen it accomplish, and it looks stiff and awkward.

in software development simple versioning works like this, you have 3 numbers, for example lets start with version 1.2.3. the first number is for a major version. If the version is changed to 2.0.0, then that means major functionality and how you interact with the code has changed, a mod you've written on the 1.2.3 version will almost always break if you try to use it in the 2.0.0 version without changing how the mod works. The second number is for major updates in specific areas. if it changes to version 1.3.3 you'd expect most of the code to do generally the same thing, but how it does it and how you interact may be different. In this case users don't always need to change their code, and if they do, the changes are usually minimal. The final number is for minor updates that dont change how you interact with the code, it just changes how it does the process internally, so if they updated it to 1.2.4, then youd expect that it doesn't require any changes for your code to interact with it. So all this is to say, when they say creation engine 2, what they're really saying is its creation engine 2.0.0, and will not be easily compatible with previous mods that were carried over between their previous games, and knowledge of modding previous games won't be as useful. essentially you shouldn't expect an "unofficial starfield patch" on the first week of launch, you should also expect the modding community to take a little while learning how things work now before you start seeing overhaul mods. Everyone wants a knew game engine but no one wants to lose the mod support the current engine has. Its one of the main draws to Bethesda games and it puts them in a bad spot when they consider changing engines.

I might be wrong but wasn't the reason why the creation engine was so popular with modders and the modding scene was due to bethesda releasing the modding tools so to my simpleton mind they could just release a modding tool for creation engine 2, problem solved

@The Storm it’s because Bethesda has no idea how to make proper RPGs. Unless you count in that time they let Obsidian make a fallout game and that was pretty much the last best fallout game.

Maybe this is nitpicking and I haven't played fallout 4's dlc yet but based on what you said, if the ladder is placed at a slope angle that lets the players move up then it's not exactly "climbing" the ladder.

AI pathing is also a huge issue with doors and ladders. I personally don't mind the teleportation style ladders that Bethesda implements. Gets the job done quick and easy.

@@kishaloyb.7937 Ai pathfinding doesn't have to be an issue with ladders and doors. You just need to make a list of character who currently want do use them, decide on the priority based on the context and have them waiting (on waiting spots) while they can't use it. Doesn't take a day to implement... Bethesda already have doors that don't teleport characters to another level. I don't know how they managed AI for them... But they can make ladder climbing animations, they have the people and the budget for it. Loading indoors levels is easier than having to manage memory and allowed them to add more details on consoles. But it has absolutely nothing to do with not having ladders in the settlements...

I remember Todd Howard talking about it in some old video where he mentions that the NPC AI and quest scripts get glitched a lot and stop advancing when they tried to implement ladders. So they just turned the ladders into doors.
