American Barbell is by and large making some of the best training equipment available, and the Urethane Pro Series Bumper Plates are no exception. Utilizing urethane instead of the traditional rubber creates an ultra-durable, low bounce plate, with vibrant colors. These are the best competition bumper plates we've had the opportunity to review to date.

Hi Coop, I've been looking at these for a LONG time... I reached out to Rogue in July of 2016 re: their Urethane plates. I assumed as you've mentioned that they were manufactured in the same factory as American Barbell. Unfortunately, Rogue's warranty is only one year and I questioned them on this point, here's they're response: "The urethane bumpers carry a 1 year warranty from purchase date. The collar opening is 50.4mm and the outer portion of the plates have a slightly rounded edge. These are an imported product and use a proprietary material we unfortunately are not able to disclose the makeup of...." "Unfortunately we are unable to compare products as they do have some differences to them. The warranty set on our plates is set by our manufacturer and is not able to be extended. These are one of the most durable plates we carry and very few have ever needed replaced due to damage caused by non-negligent use." Sounds like they're the same plate to me just on specs alone, and slightly cheaper than American Barbell's. However, they only come in lbs, whereas AB's are available in KG's and lbs. Thanks again for the review, it's the first one to be done as far as I know and I've been searching since before 2016. Tough to pull the trigger from up here in Canada without seeing them in person/video/etc...

Hi guys , I had the rogue urethane bumper plates back in 2015 in my gym. After only 4 months of use (without any abuses), my 25 lb were cracked on the outer diameter , the 35 lb and the 45 lb were cracked just on the edge of the metal insert and the letter were starting to fall off . . . The 10 lb were just fine and I never had the 55 lb. So I did the Rogue warranty and the customer services was perfect. I just sent the pictures of the broken plates and they sent me new one right away (2 business days). The only problem is what you just said : The manufacturer warranty is only 1 year from the purchase date . . . All the good thing you said in the video are completely true, but for the price, it should have a better longevity / warranty. That being said, thanks for your review !

Enjoying thIs channel while researching equipment for my own growing home gym. It does occur to me -- as the addiction of this process is admittedly taking a stronger hold of me than expected -- that at some point, and hopefully sooner than later...obsessing over miniscule details of different equipment options one may consider getting, is truly of lesser importance than actually spending the time and energy instead on lifting the damn stuff...even though what you have may be less than optimal equipment presently. Boundless resources and personal attention can be wasted on things of zero potential in added returns ultimately...advisable instead to just get to working out once you have decent equipment and a set up adequate to hit the necessary lifts, muscle groups, training protocols / fitness goals that you have generally targeted. The guy with the coolest gym does not automatically become the guy with the most awesome physique. I suspect what can happen is that expending effort on acquiring and continually swapping out toward the "best" equipment becomes an overiding end in and of itself... an all-consuming habit that may supplant actually then using the available equipment to build strength, physique and fitness. The latter then relegated to building future castles in the mind... imagined fancies of what WILL one day happen and be done with one's health and fitness...if only this NEXT piece of equipment can be added and make for a "more perfectly outfitted" home gym.... Put down the Amazon account and pick up some (even crappy) weights already! Just saying...maybe offering a well-meaning little kick in the rear for anyone similarly (as I have been the last few weeks) finding themselves getting seduced into gym-build mania. ETA: That said / off my chest...let me now close the browser window with youtube reviews in it and open the other one hosting my filled Amazon cart ;-)

That's a good point. I'm a gear guy, so I enjoy researching all of the nuances and sharing that with others. However, having a nice gym does not equate to having greater fitness levels.

It's not a bad thing if that stuff sits in your cart. It allows time to let the fever wear off. Especially if, in the meantime, you learn how to do the same movement with a different device. That's what happened with me an the GHD/Ab/Sissy Squat Machines. I just bought some straps and put them around my mattress (I got the idea from watching "The Professional"). Now I can do all 3 movements without large equipment taking up space. I also do similar movements with my gravity boots. As a bonus, I can now easily stand my bed up against the wall (kind of like a Murphy Bed) to get it out of the way when I fold out my rack.

(@GGR) I do understand the allure (and for me, already a habitual collector with OCD tendencies, the potential for addiction). Your service to the the home-gym community is very much appreciated...really just spouting off about/against my own excessive mental energies lately being expended...i.e., "just one more piece of equipment...well, and then that thing-a-ma-doodle over there ...and of course I'll need one of these to go with that...," etc., etc.
@Droverification
@Droverification 6 жыл бұрын
(@Eve Lynn) Totally agree on that...speaking of a GHD machine, just the other day I "won" against myself and the fever...struggling over whether to continue leaning over the front of the 45 degree hip extension, using the pad as a preacher curl, rather than buying another single-purpose bench and further cluttering my floor space!

I Ordered a CAP 310 lbs Olympic weight set and T 45 lbs Hammertone plates from Wal-Mart and the 45 lbs plates were small they measured 430mm which equals 16.9291 not (17.72″) and they have the ''nerve'' to have them Listed as 450mm (17.72″) on the website!! Man I'm Pissed!! A 45 lb plate diameter measurement is supposed to be 450mm (17.72″ LxH). This is the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) and IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) regulation size. So Where is a good place to buy ''Accurate'' 45 lbs plates with specs 450mm (17.72″) That measure and weight correctly to IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) and IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) regulation size.? Thanks.

Hey Coop. Great videos! I was about to order the Rogue Bumper Plates from Rogue Europe, but saw your review. You said that the plates are quite noisy. I am training at home mostly late or even in the night due to my job. Do you have a recommendation for bumper plates? I am using them for bench press and squats mostly. No really high expectations besides noise and durability. Shipping in / to Europe is mandatory. Unfortunately, the Amercian Barbells are sold out. Thanks so much!

The plates cost in a set around 10$ per Kg befor taxes i asume. We had a polyurethan floor in my school ... undestroyable... and even i'm sure its not the same and not comparable but at this price it must be good. And "Yes" almost anything wer are buying in the US or EU is coming from China so i personaly dont care as long any western company is gathering the money and the workers are paid and adult.

Gotta keep in mind, buy nice or buy twice. For things such as plates and barbells I stick to the higher quality and save on some specialty bars, the rack etc. Also, the reviews carry a lot of weight with the home gym community so he’s gonna recommend quality products, not necessarily the cheapest. Sometimes though you find a diamond in the rough such as Titan’s bumpers where you get affordability and quality.

No. If you're in the US and not a pro powerlifter (because the size to weight ratio - you can fit more weight on the bar), stick to 45s and lbs since that's what most gyms use. Also, 45s and 25s will be the easiest to sell when that day comes.

I think the only American made plates are iron grip plates and they are expensive AF at $3.73 per pound (1260lb set for $4706). They are really nice plates but not worth it imo. They have 12 sides rather than being a circle and they don't really like to line up straight on the deadlift mat if you have more than one plate on each side.

What the hell is a bumper plate. I either just have steel plates. It would drive me nuts to lift kgs instead of lbs. I would just write the weight on there in pounds. You should do a video comparing plates

You could just... Not drop the weights to solve the durability issue... Blows my mind people don't value weight control more.

There are definitely occasions to lower the barbell in a controlled manner, but from to top of each snatch or C&J during 5 sets of triples at 90% isn't one of them. For such occasions is why bumper plates were devised. If you really want to make sure everyone in your workout space delicately lowers each rep then feel free to only stock iron plates and avoid the issue altogether

They're definitely not less accurate. Weigh any bumper plate and they'll likely not be as close to the stated weight as these.
