Red metalcast is my go-to for turning amber sections of stock taillights to red for a cleaner look. Throw some clear over it for protection and it'll still have an amber glow when illuminated.

You can also spend a few dollars on a small wire brush piece of sand paper metal scrubby cheap cleaning chemicals you don't need a 100 dollar or more electric drill that just makes it easier you don't need those expensive wire brushes on the drill either it just makes it easier and all mechanics have them it's just completely necessary

Pro tip, if your cover or anything else your sanding and using the metal wire brush on is aluminum, be soft and don't use a bunch of pressure, I didn't paint my cover, I just got all the dirt off and made deep scratches with the wire brush cuz my engine is all aluminum. I'll probably paint the cover soon tho.
