In this video I compare the Elite Engineering E2-X catch can with the MightyMouse catch can that has the new super centre in it. I want to see which one is better at trapping oil. I also run an APEX catch can during the test to evaluate the catch can design and how effective it is at trapping oil. I conducted the test by running each can for approximately 300 miles or 500 kilometres, and then I removed the supercharger cover to see how much oil was in the blower area. After each test the engine was cleaned.

Great work once again John. Thanks for the install video and all of your guidance via emails. Those, and the quick connects and the hose I got from you made the install easy and straight forward. After the oil I had initially in my blower (I sent you the pic) I'm glad I installed the Elite can. That wouldn't have happened had I not seen your videos. Thanks again!

So glad I found this video. My buddy and I are trying to figure out if the improved racing catch can is the best. Or as good as elite. Any input? Definitely liked and subscribed

Hey thanks for the comment and sorry for the late reply. I went on the improved racing website to take a look. My honest opinion, I don't know, and the reason is there is no cut out of the catch can. It would be really good if they would show what's inside but they don't. This video I did will probably be of interest to you, as its all about catch can design, plus its not boring, and moves pretty fast. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLd1ZNR22baclIU.html

How much fluid did each collect in the milage? Kind of an important thing to know too.
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
You are right it is important, in a higher mileage video where you can't inspect the inside of the engine, or the engine is equally dirty after each test. In this test my engine was new and clean. If you want to see how much was caught please see this video where I do a test on my truck running it for more mileage. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5OggNZhs5fNeHU.html I know it's not a corvette but it shows how much each can captures relative to the other. The reason I didn't show how much each can caught in the corvette video you watched is the amount in the can would barely be measurable because the test was concluded at 300miles (very low) so the best way was to show the inside of the blower, and its easy to see which can kept the motor clean (so the amount really does not matter) Now if the blower was dirty with each can, then yes, the amount would be very important as I would not be able to tell which one was better, but in this case it is quite evident. Also I have a brand new car so I wanted to get the test over with quickly so I wasn't sacrificing my car, I want to keep it as clean as possible. You may want to watch this video on catch can design. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLd1ZNR22baclIU.html If you understand the design you can make a more informed purchase. Thanks for your comment and if you have any questions just let me know :)

Great vid, But what about the engine pressure? Would the catch can increase the engine pressure? Also I believe the LT4 engine has 3 pcv tube 2 of them are connected to a built-in oil separator
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
There would not be any increase in pressure if you used the MM as it has a vent, for the Elite you could easily hook up a vent or do the multiple line method. The LT4 has one (1) dirty PCV feed to the engine and its under the blower. You are right, that this one tube is hooked up to a built in oil separator (that does not filter 100%) so that's why you draw from under the blower. You are using the factory oil separator AND the catch can. Nothing is going to be100%, but it's a lot better using a catch can.

The Elite also uses a second vacuum source so full time vacuum suction is pulled not allowing pressure to build to begin with.

Which Elite catch can would be best for the ls7? Great video to 🤙
@GarageKing

Thank you, I would use the E2-X, its smaller than the ultra and the performance is the same. I ran the ultra on my truck and I think the E2-X and the Ultra are the same, the ultra just has more capacity and can do more flow, but for the LS7 the E2-X is more than adequate.

Was there any difference in their plumbing?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
They were both run very similar, the only difference is the MM could vent, and had one suction source (throttle body) and the elite had two suction sources (throttle body and near air filter) but to be honest with factory boost (no mods on this engine) I doubt there is ever any venting from the MM(edited as I originally wrote Elite), or any using of the second Elite line (as I don't drive the car hard). The throttle body would be providing the suction all the time. They both had one dirty line into the can and that was from under the blower, so they both got the same oil vapour to separate from the same place.

The issue with all catch cans is that they are connected (integrated into) the engines PCV system. Yes, they can "catch" oil flowing out from the crank case as is depressurizes through the PCV system and reduce (not totally prevent) oil microdroplets from entering your intake plenum, which is the ultimate destination of all modern PCV systems. Air/oil separators and catch cans need to be engineered so as to not block the flow through the PCV system while it "collects" oil droplets/vapor. This is a tall task. Many catch cans easily get clogged up over time with oil in their internal "air/oil separators" and begin to block the overall flow of the PCV system. It acts exactly like if the PCV valve is clogged up. Easy to check for...pull out the dipstick and check for air pressure coming out (use a small balloon or light paper etc.). Not all Air/Oil Separators (AOS) or catch cans are engineered the same. I've yet to see a test that actually looked at PCV system pressure behavior with the various catch cans used for a length of time. Yeah, they work fine when new, until they start getting gummed up with dirty oil. If your can is actually blocking the PCV system from working, then you are actually damaging the engine more than allowing oil droplets to enter the intake. At least periodically thoroughly clean your catch can mechanism for oil droplet collecting with brake cleaner to be sure they are not clogging up your PCV system from functioning.
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 5 ай бұрын
Good reply, and you are right, its best to clean them on a regular basis. Most good ones will never plug up as the oil drops to the bottom, and there is no filter to separate the oil, a good can will employ a method where droplets can hit the wall and run down so no chance of plugging up. What you have to make sure is you empty is regularly, and you also clean it. If you have a newer engine in good shape this should not be a problem. An older worn out engine will be harder on the catch can as there will be more oil vapour/blow by. All manufacturers use some type of oil separator, but a catch can is just an extra step to remove more oil.

The E2-X system retains ALL functions of the OEM PCV, it simply enhances the functions by providing full time vacuum instead of part time as the OEM does.

Hey There and thanks for the comment, I'm not trying to sell anything. Actually there are a few other catch cans that I would like to test. The McNally looks pretty interesting. If you wish to purchase one of the catch cans you have to go to their site, I don't sell them. Most catch cans has similar designs, but if you understand how the design works you get a better understanding. Take a look at this quick vid I did kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLd1ZNR22baclIU.html You can be the judge for yourself. Thanks !!!

You may want to take a look at this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLd1ZNR22baclIU.html as once you know what matters in design its not that hard to pick out good cans, and they are not too many good cans on the market.

@GarageKing I'm wanting one that would work well for my LSA in the cadillac, what would you recommend at this point? I am still impressed by how well the elite engineering worked but there's not a lot of room in a CTSV
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
@@cody11601 I never installed one in a CTSV, but it should be doable. The Z06 was tight, but the Elite fit in there no problem. I thought I saw a video somewhere where some guy installed one in a CTSV but I can't remember where as it was quite some time ago. LSA is a good solid motor. It was using in the 5th gen Camaro ZL1. I had one of those and still miss it !!! If I had to choose which one, I would go with the Elite based on what I found, but feel free to do your research.
