Does anyone else first look at how many minutes long the video is?? 😆 I did and got so excited when I saw it was a long one. Yeah! Going to need more coffee. Great way to start the day. Thanks Laura and Aaron! And good to see a sweetie kitty right at the beginning.

Based on the last few vlogs, I think Laura has made her mind up about the maple 🍁 tree but doesn’t have the ❤️ to put it out in the universe. I’m with her on just take it out while everything is just dirt and get a size or two smaller. I’ve really embraced the “if it doesn’t make you happy, take it out and replace with what you want” philosophy. Life is too short to be looking at something that doesn’t make your heart sing. Everything looks beautiful Laura & Arron! 🌸🌺🍁🌹🌻🌤💦🪴🌲🌳🐈

Maples are fast enough, might as well replace it with a 2-3” caliper tree that is much more easy to move and will get going quickly!
@conniesanrn2730

Since the business guarantees it for 1 year she might have to wait until its obviously dead before replacing. I'm sure it wasnt a cheap purchase
@gardengirl207
@gardengirl207 2 жыл бұрын
@@conniesanrn2730 this makes sense. But if it’s so altered (broken) from what she believed she purchased, then I would hope they replace it without making her wait.
@juliewolfe7558
@juliewolfe7558 2 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. I normally like to give plants a chance to heal up but in this case I'd have it replaced while the area is still under construction and dusty. It's meant to be a showcase tree so even if it heals up the shape will be wonky. Sometimes you just have to pull the bandaid off quickly.

@@gardengirl207 i think they need to wait for spring to replace it because it has certain period of time in the year that they can transplant such mature trees

My garden is at the point that everything has to be moved or replaced since the trees now shade it. We built a pergola and then hung swings and bars on it for the kids. When the kids no longer use it, you just take the swings down and you still have something beautiful. I love the plectransus and queen tut without the flowers. It has a beautiful structure and drape and looks more formal to match the entry of the Hartley.

I'd be happy to share some of my seeds, if you'd like. I started my garden 25 years ago then we decided to tear it all out and rehome all of the plants to replace and renovate our property! Saved seeds and started buying plants at the end of each month to start replanting this fall. I don't recommend doing it this way, it was heartbreaking!

Oh a one hour garden tour!! Yes!! Today my mom would have turned 85, but sadly passed away (in England) 10 years ago. So today, everything I do is in her memory! I went shopping to her favorite store, Aldi! Then came home and put my feet up with a cup of hot tea and a snickers bar (she LOVED them), and watched your garden tour! She loved to garden, and was very successful with most everything she grew. In her later years, as health declined, it became a frustration. I’ve taken up her love for plants and flowers, learning a lot from you Laura, about growing plants in America and trying to make my garden in Virginia, pretty like yours! Thank you for all you do to make our landscapes pretty, may God continue to bless you for your efforts!

I had a King Tut back in Germany. We don’t plant them in soil. We keep them in large containers ( clay pots used for making alcohol, no drainage hole) of water and only add fresh water and some fertilizer. Mine very always huge.

I love watching these garden tours. They always give me ideas of what I could/may do in my own space and just seeing how some of these plants act over the season...

The rogue watermelon is too funny! It will probably be the best tasting watermelon too. 😄 Also....I need to quit passing up the Russian sage at my garden center! Its so pretty tucked behind the boxwoods. Definitely adding to my landscape next year.

I remember reading that the parents of the great Olympic decathlon champion and later U.S. Congressman, the late Bob Mathias, said they always equipped their backyard with things their boys would enjoy with or without friends as they wanted the children to stay close and stay out of possible trouble. Worked well for them. I think this is a good idea.

I used a new coleus this year in a couple of planters, called Lava. Small leaves, spreads out a lot, and is lacy and a beautiful filler for planters. Doesn't get tall, and no flowers or seed heads. So happy!

I think the East portico entrance is the prettiest ever. Love the color out front with the tall cannas. Then the palms show up so well against the white house!

So happy to hear that the children will be getting a swing set! I still have such fond memories of mine - 60 years later.

Swing Set: We had one and never used it. A few minutes playing was enough. > It just depends on the what the children like to do best. With all that land they have to run around and explore... there is a million other things that may be just as Fun. > Swings and Slides 'can' be dangerous. (Heights = Falls / Chains) I knew a 5 year old little girl that got tangled and was strangled in a swing. (1950's) Not a babysitter.... you still have to be right there watching them at all times.

I absolutely LOVE the tropical vibe of the East porch... it almost looks like southern/colonial/coastal. What a fun/different vibe for that area!
