Thank you so much Tim. After watching all your BaseCamp videos I feel like a pro now. My wife and I are planning a RV trip to Alaska for next year and wanted a travel planner that could send our routes directly to our Garmin nuvi. We are now happily planning with confidence.

Hello Tim. Greetings from England. I would just like to say a big, " Thank You, " to you for these excellent video's. A few days ago BaseCamp was a Nightmare to me. I have spent a few hours this last few days following your instructions to the letter, and I have done several routes now, with 100% success. I never knew BaseCamp had so many options within it. I can now say that I enjoy using BaseCamp. And I never thought I'd say that. Thank you once again for taking the time to upload these video's. Take care everyone.

@@EZMotoTim Tim, a quick update for you. Since watching all your video's, and more importantly understanding them too. I have since planed a 1500 mile route around the NC 500 in Scotland ( Google the NC 500 in Scotland ) I went the other week, and the route was faultless. And that's all down to watching your video's. I am at the moment putting places of interest in lots of countries in Europe, and in the UK too, putting places of interest in folders,within Basecamp. This would not have been possible, had I not watched your video's. I know one thing, if you ever make it back to England, you'll not get lost that's for sure. Thanks again, and take care.

you have a excellent way of explaining this stuff. I have been using base camp for Motorcycle trips for a few years and have figured out routes and routing (No thanks to Garmin videos) but have look at and usually given up on trip planner. have you done a more in depth vid on adding multiple stops to a day many which are not listed in the data base? I do day trips for a group, such as day trips to tour covered bridges and we hit about 10-12 of them in a day. they are not hard to do in a route but gave up in trip planner. I just found your channel and will be passing it along to fellow riders, Thanks.

I don't use the Trip Planner. I prefer to create routes manually. If I'm going cross-country I start with a direct route and then find places along the way to visit or stop. Thanks for referring my channel to your friends.

Tim, great videos but I need some help. Can you tell me how to handle a Trip to a waypoint (campground to check in) and then head to another waypoint (National Park) then back to the original campground to spend a night and then back to the National Park the next day and then back to the campground to spend a second night and leave the next day to another waypoint?

I did this video to explain the Trip Planner, but I don't use it. I suggest you create a route for each leg of your trip. Also, it's better to not create a circular route. Create 2 routes instead: one going to the farthest point, the second returning to the start. Thanks for watching.

Thank you so very much for your easy-to-understand videos. While I don't have a bike, I use a Nuvi 2597 for road trips when I want to go pretend I'm a photographer. :-) After watching your first seven videos, I played around with BaseCamp, created a trip, and copied it to the SD card on my Nuvi by clicking and dragging. Unfortunately, I can't find a menu option on my Nuvi that allows me to look for these kind of trips. Any thoughts?

I have fought with Basecamp for a number of years. After discovering your videos I realize all of the problems I've had were easily resolved. Thank You. My question is: I have quite a few routes and waypoints under "Unlisted Data" Why are they there, and how do I fix them? For the most part they are data I have used for previous trips that I choose the keep as references. Lastly, How do I remove old routes and Waypoints from the device?
@EZMotoTim
@EZMotoTim 3 жыл бұрын
These are good questions for a Q&A video. Items in "Unlisted Data" are just as you described - items you used and then "Removed" from lists. They are still in the database. They don't need to be "fixed," but you might find it useful to create a catalog of these items. Create folder and list(s) and move them there for later use. "cut" them from "Unlisted Data" and paste them into a list. Second question - depends on the device. On my Zumo 665 there is a Data Icon under Tools with Delete Favorites and Delete Routes. Go exploring on your device.

Having just watched your two tutorials (lesson 3 & 4 ) on route planning, this is also very helpful. But here is my question on Trip Planner. I want to use Trip Planner to go from Jacksonville to Prudhoe Bay. But first I wan to go to Key West.cIs there a way to get Trip Planner to add in intermediary - out of the way stops to a trip, or does a Trip on Trip Planner always have to be a trip between two points as you showed in your video ?
@EZMotoTim
@EZMotoTim 2 жыл бұрын
I don't use Trip Planner very much. I create a route from one end to the other and then either split that route into daily sections or create new routes - one for each day. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for watching.

This may be a bug in the Mac version, but have you ever had a case where you entered a trip with a certain set of dates (not just generic days) and then changed the starting date of the trip? When I first did this, I got very strange results when I loaded the trip to my BMW Nav V. It would show some days as “scheduled” and other days as “unscheduled” (I am going on memory here, but I think that was the terminology). I could not figure this out for the longest time, but finally found that changing the starting date of the trip only changed the date shown in the calendar icon at the upper left of each day, but did not change the underlying date in each day. So, if I then added additional days, my new days had the correct date, but the days I had entered prior to changing the starting date of the trip, still had the dates that they were originally entered. I found this out by noticing that the starting time on some days was underlined and on other days it wasn’t. When I opened up the details for each day, I then noticed that some days had dates completely different from other days and finally made the connection that these were days entered in the original trip. I then had to manually change the date for each of these days to get them all in sequence again. And after that, they all loaded to the GPS and imported properly and showed up as “scheduled” or whatever the terminology is in the Nav V trip planner.

Thanks for the overview. I create my routes on a desktop PC but I take a laptop with me on the road. Is there a way to transfer the route plan to Basecamp on the laptop? I know I can export the route as .gpx file, but then all the planning detail is lost.
@EZMotoTim
@EZMotoTim 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can put the BaseCamp database on a cloud drive, such as Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, etc. Two points to remember 1) Be sure the laptop and desktop are synced to the cloud before opening BaseCamp. 2) Open BaseCamp on one device only, never on both at the same time. See Part 9 of this series. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdCZqqt1xNmcn3k.html Thanks for watching.

When I try adding a fuel stop by moving the slider then searching for fuel (as per: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtBgaK99y6u5lX0.html) the waypoint is added and it's in between the starting and ending waypoints according to the route plan list, but on the map, the new waypoint is added as a final destination. To add insult to injury, the new segment to the final destination is a straight line looped back from the original destination to the new waypoint - i.e. it's not routed along available roads.

Another question: Why do I have multiple names for a single waypoint. For example , My starting point for multiple routes is "Home" One route will use "Home" while another might use "home 1" or "home 18"
@EZMotoTim
@EZMotoTim 3 жыл бұрын
Short answer: You are making duplicate waypoints of the same point. Put "Home" in a list then copy and paste it into each list where you want to use it. I'll have to include a better answer in a Q&A video. Thanks for watching.

Tim, Greetings from Scotland and many thanks for the excellent videos covering Basecamp. I’ve been struggling to master this program which seems essential to get the best out of my Zumo 390. With your clear explanations I can now do exactly what I need, although I have to say Basecamp is somewhat over complex and counter intuitive. Basecamp lite anyone? Having said that I’ve taken aboard the tip about using the HD ride planner for more straightforward route planning and that’s working a treat for me at the moment. Keep up the good work, if Garmin explained their product as well as you do we’d all be much better off!
