The Visual Approach Feature! An Awesome Feature in the GARMIN GNC 355!
The Garmin GNC 355 keeps on surprising me! There are so many features packed into this amazing unit. The coolest feature is the Visual Approach feature. Have a look at this program to find out how to load and activate this feature and make your flying safer! This will automatically give you a 3 degree glide slope to the runway. Good video’s. I am with the fly the pattern camp at uncontrolled airports. Lots of no radio aircraft out and about. I only Use the visual when cleared for the visual at a controlled airfield. At uncontrolled I keep my head on a swivel outside with only a glance at airspeed.

I was hoping that it would provide a Visual with traffic pattern kind-of-like ForeFlight does, which would be SUPER COOL! I fly with a G1000 so for that I just set up the ILS and fly to the FAF traffic permitting , I know the new G1000Nxi has visual approaches, but I think its like what you demonstrated. a little quicker setting up I presume that a full IFR approach... I need to play with that next time up and see... Thanks for the tip!!

Watched your fly out of St. Pete today around 2pm on Flightradar24. Was fun watchin you. Oh you went to Wauchula. I figured you were headed to Sebring.

I prefer Foreflights choices for visual as they fit you in to the ' normal' traffic pattern making the airspace environment safer for all. I just feel the straight in guys are not being very considerate of others using the airport. The exception is when you are an IFR approach with radar vectoring.

Did you install a GAD-29? I have the same setup in my experimental and get no vertical deviation indicator-no GAD-29.After talking with Garmin, ARINC data from the GNC-355 through the GAD-29 to the G5 is required. I assumed, incorrectly, the VDI information came through RS-232 data. Sneeky so-and-so's at Garmin!

Quick question. I've seen on foreflight's website that the GNC355 will allow flight plan transfers from an iPad running foreflight to the 355. Have you tried that yet? I have an iPad mini in my Cardinal and I'm waffling between a GNC355 or a GNS 430w and a flightstream 210.

Marvin Adams I haven’t tried that - I know you can do it with an extra add-on feature called flight stream but I didn’t know you could do it just with the 355 in your iPad I think you need an extra device called flight stream -

Not sure if this helps, but I emailed Foreflight to ask them when the 355 will accept flight plan transfers from an iPad running foreflight, and they responded that it already will with the built in Connext Bluetooth. No additional things to tie into it. I'm not sure if it will work, but next time you're at the hangar try it out. I guess the Connext platform is all that's needed? Not sure. It will be just another reason to go to the hangar and play. Let me know if that's true. That might be a nice video idea if it works. Thanks... Marvin

SUN DOWNER I have a look at my video getting your instrument rating and my only advice would be to do it all at once take three weeks off of work and just treat it like a giant project in your life don’t do it in pieces do everything at once and I had to shut off my entire life and I got it done and it was the greatest feeling once it was all over it was a huge accomplishment -

I got some advice from a Collins pilot. Once established on the glideslope, use rudder pedals to move horizontally, and use pitch for up or down. If your power and trim are good, the approach will be a piece of cake.

I have an old BendixKing KLN 94 GPS in N34490. I do have the G5 artificial horizon and would like to install the G5 HSI. My avionics guy says I should just buy a 650 because my current radios will not run the HSA. Problem is I would have to rob a bank to do it. So this was a great video it shows that the GPS will actually capture a localizer and a glideslope correct? I assume it will not do a full ILS approach

Frazer Peterson correct I won’t do a full ALS but I have the KX 155 to do that and the GNC 355 was only $6500 and it cost me $1500 to put in and it is the best investment I’ve made in my airplane so far and it talks perfectly to the 2G fives the only thing I would think about doing to my airplane is putting an engine monitor in but I think that may be overkill I think enough is enough and the plane is just how I like it! Over 50 and Learning To Fly! There is never enough data on what's going on firewall forward! If it gets quiet up front it will spoil your hole day. At least get a digital fuel flow and tie it into your gps it will give you miles per gallon and range. Along with the davtron it's worth the $$.

Not sure I follow. It will not do any ILS. It should do a full LPV/RNAV approach. This radio doesn't have a Nav radio function. It's a GPS Comm only.

I could not find it, what has been the cost of all the Garmin goodies combined? Not for me, we all ready have a 750 and a Aspen pfd and a 345xponder.

As an experienced IFR rated pilot I would announce that I was executing a simulated visual approach to 14 and would only do if no other VFR traffic in the pattern. If you are worrying about losing your engine doing the straight in approach then you should not bother getting an IFR rating :).

Great video on 355. I noticed you had your iPad and a carpet cover that looked like it was preventing glare. Where did you get the mount for iPad and dash carpet for your aircraft!?

New to all this but not of fan of other pilots flying in a long final in vfr conditions and I prefer to keep my altitude and fly a tight pattern knowing at any time I could make the runway.

Excellent content but not the best video. Still you do an exceptional explanation of what's going on. If you aren't already you should consider becoming a CFI.
