Giving up a pawn for the sake of a single soon-to-be-isolated passed pawn. Kasparov remarks that pawn sacrifices of this type are frequently seen in GM games today as opposed to traditional chess and even in contrast to the partially Karpov-influenced style of the 1980s. In his words, “the new generation says that initiative can be worth material and that this is more appreciated than before.” He claims that he himself “contributed to the changing philosophy.” Indeed, I remember being surprised time and again by Kasparov’s early pawn sacrifices, which were quite unlike ones that I was used to. But these are fast-moving times, and today such a sacrifice looks almost routine and is often passed over without even an ‘!’, so deeply have such ideas penetrated our thinking.

2:32 How about Bishop e7? Forcing an exchange that initially seems unfavorable yes (since the bishop is much better than that knight, but it is effectively forcing the enemy queen away from the important diagonals. Certainly interesting to ponder...
@amariimc
@amariimc 6 жыл бұрын
Billy Hatzi but then queen takes knight on c7 forcing queen exchange..and subsequently threatening to take either bishop at e7 or pawn at a7 both of which cant be defended at once..thus pawn on a7 drops creating a passed pawn for white at a2... and with whites rook already in the 7 th rank it is winning for white comfortably...

It's easy to say that today's GMs can surely refute many of Tal's attacks. but but but, they forget, that, today's GMs have Engines for their help while preparing, which was not the case in Tal's Era. also, imagine, Tal in this Era.. he would have been Much More Deadly player than he used to be, coz in this Era, he could have Engines helping him while preparing.. .. .. Mikhail Tal + Modern Engines , as Deadly as anyone can imagine !!

Everyone just plays by the book now and sets of rules and guidelines. They're good to follow but do diminish the creativity and excitement. Hell if I could keep things interesting and play the Tal moves despite losing a lot of matches, it'd still be thrilling and entertaining. Where's the wildness in chess now?

At 3:51 Specifically, white is threatening Knight check, if rook takes, then he wins a rook by promoting with check. If king moves to its only legal square, then it will be a smothered mate, Nh6 double check, king back to H8. Queen G8 check the king cannot capture because of the knight, and then Nf7 # (that's checkmate for you who don't know what # means)
@francisudubor6811
@francisudubor6811 6 жыл бұрын
Once you move the knight from h6. King captures queen on g8
@dylanperry377
@dylanperry377 6 жыл бұрын
I think there's some confusion here. Once queen moves to G8 the knight is on H6, protecting the queen. It is check, so the rook must take the queen, and then the knight moves to f7, and that's checkmate. The king can never take the queen, because it is protected, and the queen is long gone before the knight moves from H6.
@dylanperry377

Seems as though it would be simpler for Garry to have played 19. Be7 before 20.d6 in response to Rfe8. Now he threatens d7 not as a sacrifice, but to promote directly. 20… Nb4 (to lock the Queen on the a-file) 21. d7 R:e7 22. d8/Q+ R:d8 23. R:d8+ Bf8 24. Re1 forcing exchanges of Rooks and the Queens probably can be removed soon, as well. So Black needs something better. 20. …R:e7 21. d:e7 Q:e7 doesn't work because of the loose knight on a6, and if 21. Nc7 to reinforce e8 and save the knight, 22. Rd8+ still crashes through (22…Ne8?? 23. Q:e8+). 20. … Bf8 (trying to exchange at e7 with the bishop, not the rook) 21. d7 R:e7 (but …B:e7 allows 22. d:e8/Q+, so Black is right back where he started) 22. d8/Q R:d8 23. R:d8 It seems as though 19. Be7 should at least win the exchange, and keep the initiative, to boot. Keep up the great work!

6.02 Knight to e6 exchange of queens possible. Queen declines, If then Q to h6, black queen cant take the rook otherwise Q takes rook on f3 mate... B to g7 Queen must then retreat to d2 to protect the rook on d7. B to h6 threatening whites queen, queen can take this Bishop but black queen will take the rook on d2. this ok for black now...the actual black move queen to a6 was an aberration. Personally after K to e6 a queen exchange favours white but then the pieces are even. Black has a good chance its pawns are better developed.

I’m not a fan of the argument that today’s strategies would work against Yesterdays champions. We have to remember that if Yesterdays champions were brought forward today they would’ve took the time to learn and examine the games that have been played strategies that have been advanced and newly developed and they would be better players as well. What I’m more concerned with is could today’s players have thrived back at a time when computers did not exist when you could not use an engine to study your own moves and strategies. Remember there was a time when preparation called for just you and your team and several chessboards. No computers were available just want you in the minds around you could come up with. It was a time when limited resources came up with extraordinary ideas and strategies. The question is could we have survives back then we already know that these players could drive under adverse conditions we never even had to play under. Could we have written to their level under those circumstances because it’s clear that most of them could’ve risen to our level.
