In this clip: 09.58.21 Garry LV0 lands with a big clump of moss. He fiddles it into place and does some nest tidying, then starts watching something overhead
10.00.46 Garry LV0 spots something and flies off in a hurry
10.01.28 Alarm chips heard
10.01.50 Two Ospreys appear from the left at speed, chasing each other
10.02.38 One lands on the pole tree, the other dive bombs. They fly off to the right and chase back and forth around the green tree belt above the right hand knoll before disappearing out of sight.
Not sure if contact was made during the divebombing, but it looked like there might have been contact in the green tree belt. Hard to tell from this distance. Was the second Osprey Prince? Or a stranger? Not Louis, he'd only just left Nest Two and the timings are wrong for him to make it over to Nest One.

Brief history of the nests:
2016 Woodland Trust acquire the Loch Arkaig ancient Caledonian rainforest remnant and manage it in partnership with Arkaig Community Forest.
2017 A nest cam is installed on a refurbished Osprey nest. A young male Louis and a young female Aila take up residence and raise one male chick to fledging: Lachlan JH4. 2018 Louis & Aila return but a Pine Marten steals all their eggs.
2019 Louis & Aila return and raise two female chicks to fledging: Mallie JJ0 and Rannoch JJ2.
2020 Louis & Aila return and raise two male and one female chicks to fledging: Doddie JJ6; Vera JJ8 and Captain JJ7.
2021 Louis returns but sadly Aila doesn't. Louis takes up residence on a new nest with a new mate Dorcha and they raise two male chicks to fledging: Aspen LW3 and Alder LW4. This is designated Nest Two, no one takes up residence on Nest One.
2022 Woodland Trust install a nest cam on Nest Two. Louis & Dorcha return and raise two female chicks to fledging: Willow LW5 and Sarafina LW6. Still no residents on Nest One.
2023 Louis & Dorcha return, and raise one male chicks to fledging: Ludo LY7. No residents on Nest One but male Garry LV0 spent a lot of time flirting with Affric 152 despite her mate Prince still being around.
The Woodland Trust nest cam was installed by Wildlife Windows in Arkaig Community Forest, it is funded by The People's Postcode Lottery and operates on wifi provided by Locheilnet. Watch the livestream 24/7.

Great filming of that chase,, or was it a possible dance ❤ Garry replenishes the moss he been scraping over the edge, I hope a female appears for him.

Dear Garry, he really deserves to find a mate - soon! Glad you liked the film, Suzy, I tried hard to avoid it being too swoopy which can make it unpleasant to watch, but those two certainly did a lot of swooping backwards and forwards, it was quite a sight. Not Louis, as he had just been seen at Nest Two so the timing doesn't work - Prince maybe? Edit - or a total stranger, but that interaction looked almost personal, so I'd bet on Prince as the two males have tangled before.

It looked almost like a dance @@GeemeffGeemeff As if they had both done this before,, maybe a natural instinct, but imagine if it was a new female on the scene ❣ You did a great job following them.

@@GeemeffGeemeffEvery time I see him bringing moss (which is too many times to count 😅) I think how sad it is that the nest remains empty. I hope someone turns up soon. At other nests I've seen males that have lost mates recently would quickly have several females turn up vying for his attention! Why so quiet on Nest 1?

That went on a long time! Garry “nestorising” shows he’s serious and will defend his nest ❤. If only Affric - or another female - would make a decision in his favour 🙏

Affric has gone somewhere else then? Poor Garry, it’ll happen one day for him. I guess from Affrics pov it wasn’t exactly the most peaceful nest, and not ideal to bring up chicks in…

Affric has a partner, she and Prince have been paired since 2021. Her behaviour with Garry is a puzzle.

@@andydavies5879 As jg says, Affric is officially paired up with Prince since 2021. They met on Nest One and returned to it a few times but nested elsewhere. They’ve visited every year since, at the beginning of the season. However, last year mid-season they started turning up on a regular basis so obviously their nest must have failed. Then Garry LV0 entered the picture, looking to claim Nest One and wanting a mate. Since then, it’s all been a tangle!

@@GeemeffGeemeff The situation with nest 1 makes a lot more sense now! I knew there was a conflict there (inc last year), but again didn’t know there was an official pairing and thought it was more a three way tussle, thanks G!

Oh Garry we need to find you a good female ! I wonder if theres a shortage i also wonder if Vera's due back soon if shes still with us ❤

The 2020 chicks should have returned by last year, as three year olds. Females typically avoid their natal areas and go elsewhere. Realistically, we would hope to get a sighting of Vera from another nest. Fingers crossed for that day.
