Rest in peace, Gary Moore... so sad of a day... your guitar stays with us, and you shall live trough it. Farewell...
† Gary Moore was found dead in February 06 2011, while on vacation at Costa del Sol, Spain. †
- - -
Gary Moore and friends performing "Emerald" in the "One Night in Dublin: a Tribute to Phil Lynott" concert at The Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland, August 20th, 2005. [Part 4/10]
The classical twin guitars strike again. Another classic.
---
Phillip Lynott was the bassist, lead singer, lead composer and frontman for the band Thin Lizzy, in wich Moore played for some time too.
Gary Moore (was) a renowed guitar player, his style ranging from Heavy Metal and Blues to Country music.
Brian Robertson is known for being one of pioneers on the famous "twin guitars" of the band.
With no further ado, enjoy this song in high quality, and see all the other parts of this historical concert in my channel.

[Parte 4/10]
As classicas guitarras gêmeas atacam de novo. Outro clássico.
---

I think Downey is a more technical than most guys kind of drummer, but not too technical that it gets in the way. One of my favourites too. His drum solo in bad reputation is probably my favourite of all time. Not over top, just right.

Greatest Thin Lizzy song in my book! No better example of two electric guitars playing in unison and off of each other. Also, Phil was able to infuse immense Gaelic imagery in this song. I picture Gaelic warriors riding into battle on the rolling, green hills of Ireland. WICKED!

I live in Brighton, about two miles or so from Gary's grave in Rottingdean, I visit it a lot, it's nice to sit there listening to the birds singing and having a chat to Gary! This might sound a bit deranged maybe, but when you're actually sitting there it seems quite natural to have a one sided chat to a man who left this world far too early!

Always loved this song. Love the whole Jailbreak LP. I'll never understand why the industry forces music into these narrow boxes. Hard rock. Metal. Punk. Death. Doom. Thrash. Alternative. Indie, etc. Then the younger musicians follow suit to the categories. Then their fans. Then the venues. Before you know it, guys are more worried about which Hot Topic patch of ripped T-shirt swatch they are going to pin to their denim jacket, than they are enjoying and honoring great undefined music like this. Montrose, Moore, Fripp, Beck, B. Campbell. Fuck now time is starting to take these guys from us. They can never be replaced.

In Thin Lizzy, when Robbo and Scott were in the band they didn't cross swords and "duel" It was a musical partnership, a partnership that worked brilliantly as there were no ego's, no competition to flood the solo spot out with more notes than the other guy. Robbo and Scott style wise were completely different yet they always complimented each other musically when they approached their guitarwork. What you witnessed here is the very reason why Gary Moore never really fitted in with what Thin Lizzy needed. He just couldn't resist showing how technically gifted he was - and he was - yet in Thin Lizzy at least that wasn't a plus point, it was a minus. What they needed was someone who "got" what the song was about and tailored their guitaring to compliment it. Scott and Robbo got Phil's songwriting from day one. They just had it. Gary never really did. Put it this way, when we listen to what he did here, throwing in everything but the kitchen sink, would we like to hear that solo work on the original Emerald track on Jailbreak or the solos that Robbo and Scott laid down originally? I know who I'd rather listen to any day of the week. Gary Moore once said about Scott, that he reminded him of what "feel" was all about when he listened to Scott's solos. Gary never really learned though. Pity he never put it into practice. You just knew before you even saw this clip what was going to happen. Robbo would be hung out to dry while Gary would go one one of his endless "look at me - look what I can do diddly diddly squeak squeal solos that killed the song really - and not for the first time. Hendrix never played as fast as Moore but does that make Gary the better guitarist........? Give me Robbo and Scott any day of the week. Its funny how their lineup is always voted as the best in Lizzy's history by the vast majority of fans. Gary barely gets a look in, for all his talent yet the penny never really dropped with him. Thanks for the memories Robbo and Scott. You truly were a bit special.

@@tommelone766 You know, I am happy even seeing a good cover band. In fact, I would rather see a good cover band than the Black Star Riders. I love Lizzy to bits, but these guys are tragic.
