Spot on this. I’ve replaced my old range gas hob now as it didn’t have an fsd. I was astonished by this as I thought it was a basic safety device so assumed it was faulty. I have young kids so it went straight to scrap

What is even more scary is carbon monoxide poisoning from badly ventilated gas burners. It is quite common in my part of the world to have gas water heaters fitted in apartments. They are not a problem until people do some renovating(new bathroom door, new ventilation etc) and suddenly the gas heater does not get enough oxygen and starts to produce carbon monoxide. There was one very sad incident where the vent pipe for the burner was not connected properly and a family lost all 3 of their children.

Paris gas explosion is not only due to the accidental ignition of the gas because if you have ever been inside any older buildings in Paris you would see that the state of repair of fabric and facilities is terrible. Very few have been updated to comply with modern norms of plumbing gas and electricity and are a hodge podge of ancient joined to modern and fudges made just to install anything such as a shower. They still sell much of the old style fittings and fuses to make it possible just to fix things. Landlords aren’t under any obligation to modernise at all. Entirely governments fault (both left and right) for not enforcing. French attitude is for govt to make regulations and the public to ignore them. Your hair would stand on end if you’d seen the things I have seen. The French economy doesn’t run on property prices as in UK.

Hi Roger can you confirm what the legislation document is that states in a rented property you have to have the FSD on a gas hob or cooker before you can issue a Landlord certificate.

Landlords are not required to have FSDs fitted to hobs/cookers UNLESS it is a flat, bed sit, multi occupancy dwelling, single storey maisonette type situations e.g. where ground floor and first floor individual domestic dwellings exist; in general, any building comprising of more than one individual dwelling i.e. multi- tenancy and/or multi-owner occupancy. Not just because it’s a tenanted property as you stated. If the appliance was installed before 2008 and does not fall into one of those categories stated above, they WILL issue you a safety certificate, with a note that the appliance is NOT TO CURRENT STANDARDS (NCS) Roger, please do not inform the general public of gas safe regulations unless you are qualified and gas safe registered yourself (which you are not) Unless you are going to state the regulations correctly, which you did not. It becomes very misleading for the uneducated or untrained. Once again, making videos with incorrect facts.

We have had those flame failiure devices as standard for at least 30 years on any gas hob here in sweden. Not that there are that many anymore.

The plug on our Kenwood range cooker with an electric oven caught fire while cooking Xmas dinner and burnt through the rubber on the Gas bayonet hose. The gassafe engineer said we was an inch away from the whole family being blow to smithereens.

I come across a few of these every year when doing landlords gas safety checks in houses and flats that have just been bought to let out to tenants , it's not an expensive fix as most bog standard hobs are quite cheap and the landlord knows he has to do it if he is renting out the property , I would bet that there are 10s of thousands of these hobs still in use throughout the country so it's a good idea to highlight the danger of these things Cheers mate.........👍

Roger thanks for that info, I have fitted a Fluidmaster thanks for your video on it helped I used my Fish tank siphon tube with a hand pump it saved me sponging the small amount of water that is in the bottom it might help you its £6-99 on Amoson Mick from Ramsgate

Curious what year it became mandatory for the fsd. I prefer cooking on gas but induction definitely seem safest and are as quick as gas if not quicker.

Too many "gas explosions" these days.
