Big Facts. I sold my Ram 1500 after two weeks of owning the Model Y Performance. I’m saving $350-$400 per month. I’m only buying a Hybrid or Electric truck. Hopefully the Cybertruck.

But doesn't the cost of the model y have to be factored in as well?
@cjonesplay1 Жыл бұрын
@@mp2833 You can get a Model Y. For the same price as a Rav 4. But in 5 years. The Rav 4. Will have cost you more.

Not only the gas savings, but the savings on nearly maintenance and repair free for the 4680 Tesla! Smart and Congrats!

Please redo the experiment with regen. Make sure the battery is 100% before regen is applied. For example have someone to tow you up a hill and then going downhill apply brakes. Then there will be no doubt.

We need a 20 year estimate on savings and what if you charge only from 11-6 am I bet you can get a better rate. Also if you call your electric company they sometimes reduce the rate if you call and get EV perks, do it and ask at least.

You didn’t take into account the cost of insurance! Tesla insurance is expensive and on average $50-$100 per month more than gasoline/hybrid SUV. Further, the utility of third row in Tesla (if equipped) has no comparison to Highlander.

You saved all that money, but at how much time cost with the supercharger. How many time you supercharge your tesla can fill up your highlander?

Can you put the Y on a dyno, and get the horsepower?

Highlander is more comfortable then Tesla

In Canada highlander starts at 45k+tax. Whereas model y starts at 86k+tax. The break even point will be a long ways away…

I got this AWD Highlander for $36,000 in Texas new in March of 2021. The car market is alot worse now.

Agree with this it's not apple to apple. In my part I went from a BMW X5 to a Tesla Model Y which are roughly equal in MSRP. Now I can say that the saving on my end is immediate and substantial on a monthly basis. Best move I've made.

Now compare the initial purchase cost of each vehicle plus insurance. A rough estimate would take many years to come ahead with the Tesla. I’m super jealous of your Tesla lol but can’t justify them any more at the current pricing. Great video though!!

I definitely understand. We got the Toyota for 37k AWD in March of 2021. Now they are selling for 44k new vs this standard range model Y was 60k. Car insurance is surprisingly close. We have the Toyota on Geico and the Tesla on Tesla insurance. With gas prices high I estimate minimum 300 dollars a month savings. So 3600 a year. But once they normalize the gas savings is cut tremendously.

You make great points and I’m surprised that Tesla insurance is close to its so called competitors (way to go Elon). At a 20k price difference and gas at $5 a gallon (at 23 mpg), you would have to drive the Tesla close to 100k miles before it’s saving you. Once this calculation comes to about 40k miles, I can justify it. Hopefully the recent increase in prices is just to slow demand. But who knows. Anyway, keep up the great work. My family and I love watching your detailed reviews and look forward to future videos!

@@keeppounding7658 the catch with the Tesla Insurance is you get a driving score and it effects your premium. Right now we are at $130 per month with Tesla for 2 drivers. I appreciate the comment!

Just curious are you measuring energy drawn from the wall directly or just going off what the car shows? If you just use the car info, it won't account for charging losses(8% or so on a 240v home charger) and phantom drain/other energy uses while the car is parked.

Did anyone ever calculate a battery replacement of 20k? Plus the price difference to get Tesla
@MudHutMonkey5 ай бұрын
You can then add $5-10K for a engine replacement in a 2022 Highlander. Batteries nor engines are ever truly guaranteed to last forever. Your point is very valid though!

Gas saved, sure! But what about the increased car payment? The increased car insurance? In the end u end up spending the same. What u are saving in gas, you are paying it in extra car premiums ;)

Tesla insurance is $130 a month for us in Texas. As long as you keep your driving score good. But your definitely correct the carnote is more expensive.

have you taken into account the battery replacement that will cost as much as a new car? whereas a toyota could touch even a million miles ( literally forever) with basic maintenance.
