I bought a 22 carbonize gray F250 Tremor w the 7.3. The only reason I didn’t go w the 6.7 is I don’t have anything to tow, and what I haul, a smaller truck would be ok, but I wanted a bigger truck, because I can. If I was driving cross country, especially towing, or towing 10k+ regularly, yeah, hands down, diesel. The 7.3 w the 4:30 is amazing and lighter weight (especially front end) for off roading.

Nice truck and great Dealership. I have bought 2 trucks in the past three years through Cedric, he is very easy to deal with. I just traded my 2020 Diesel in on a 2023 F350 with the 7.3 gas and have been very happy with its performance towing. Good luck with the diesel and pay very close attention to where you get fuel, change those fuel filters every 15k and the oil every 5k and you should be good. Also drain that water separator monthly. Good luck and safe travels.

I bought a diesel for the same reasons you did.....puddle jumping gas stations every 150 miles while on vacation sucked. Not to mention many times I just couldn't fit in the station and had to drive exit after exit to find a station to get gas. Now I pull in with the semi trucks and fill up easy peasy (plus they have DEF).

2017 gmc canyon denali. My husband absolutely LOVES that pickup. He did tons of researched as have always owned gasoline pickups. No need for full sized pickup but this thing tied like no tomorrow. Pickup doesn’t squat, still gets good mileage and isn’t being tugged all over the road by the trailer (mainly a dump trailer like what a roofer would use). He drives logging truck for a living so bringing the diesel mentality down to personal use was really a non issue. The only negative-we live in CA so fuel prices are just stupid. Longevity of vehicle will eventually pay off but it still hurts to fill it up-lol. We keep our vehicles for well over a decade so hopefully 2 decades on this choice.

We have an 80 gallon tank and could drive several hundred miles before filling up, (look into the Open Roads fuel card for Diesel fuel discounts of up to a dollar a gallon at times). You will love the torque and the low growl of power, BTW nice Dr. Berry shirt. Stay Healthy. Larry

Congratulations on your new truck! While I don't own a truck (yet) considering downsizing to trailer of 5th wheel. Diesel all the way but about the only thing I would add in the decision vs gas, if like you said primarily local driving, id also "short" trips that engine never heat up for burnoff and triggering RGEN fuel dump cycles - consider gas. In terms of fuel, while there are discount diesel programs, at other times Gasbuddy is your friend. It can filter its search for diesel, bypassing those that don't have it, giving at truer estimate of the closest station - or price difference of neighboring stations at an approaching Interstate exit. One other factor in your "breakeven" 13 year math - how long do you typically own a truck and with the higher trad-in value erode proportionally. Gasser probably wouldn't last 13 years, but for easy math lets say trade truck at 5 years. Will that $10,000 difference result in a $5000 between gas and diesel, or will the diesel return $7000 or that $10000...and you have enjoyed the diesel driving dynamics over the years. On a related note, think you will enjoy this, As a Floridian, yes Florida has the high dealer fees in the nation - in the neighborhood of $1000. Faced with that when purchasing a 4 down TOAD, and noting cheap flights out of Orlando. I did a search with my son's CT zip code many cars (Chevy Trailblazer/Buick Encore GX AWD 1.3L) found great selection where only had FWD in FL that would not qualify as a TOAD. With a deposit on a qualifying Trailblazer that was on a ship approaching the Panama Canal, I caught a flight to my son's home. The difference between the $1000 dealer fee and the $250 dealer fee where bought the Encore GX, paid for the flight, rental car, visiting my grandchildren (and my son and his wife too) all fuel and one night hotel for the return. While stayed at sons when shopping, also stayed with a relative in SC and stopped by the dealership in Flagler where deposit was refunded.

Sometimes, smaller is better. I use a 2016 GMC Canyon with the 2.8 Duramax to tow our Imagine 2250RK. It's about 2 feet shorter, and 300 lbs lighter than Eleanor. I get 12 MPG towing at 68 MPG. Not towing, I get 21 in the city and 31 on the interstate. Diesel fuel is more expensive, but I'm saving money on the mileage. I've towed all over the mountains of East Tennessee, and made several trips to Florida.When it's time to trade, I'll probably go with the 1500 Silverado or Sierra with the 3.0 Duramax. Bigger truck, more power but roughly the same great fuel mileage. Your new truck looks great. I know you'll enjoy the diesel torque and mileage. Safe and happy travels!

When you trade it or sell it, you'll get your $10k back, if not more. My 03 Ram 2500 with H.O. diesel, ran it to 180k miles, I got more than the $$$ difference between the gas and diesel engine compared to what the diesel option cost when I sold it. So, longer between oil changes, far better fuel economy and I actually made a profit on the Cummins.

F250 7.3 gas and same 2600RB. Both new 2022 models. Added 1K of solar, 600amp hours of Lifepo4, with 3K inverter, and the entire RV is AC powered with auto switching at the main fuse panel. Pulls great and setup is great. However, with a do over I would of gotten the F350. Not going with the F350 is like every time you click that seat belt and think how good that feels, at the same time the thought of should of gotten the F350 instead - every time.

I prefer towing with a diesel for comfort. The truck doesn't have to constantly change gears like gas trucks do. Heck last time I towed with a gas truck it was a 2014 Ram 1/2 ton and it just hung in 4th gear and sometimes 3rd gear on hills. As far as maintenance goes, I've found the maintenance to be a wash. Maybe it's just a Cummins thing (I have owned 6, still own 2) but the maintenance schedule on diesels is much longer than gas, or at least it was last time I had a gas truck. Dodge/Ram recommends 7500 mile oil change intervals if you tow all the time, 15,000 if you do not, so I split it at 10,000 miles. I'd like to tow with a new gas truck to see how they perform towing my trailer, but I went back with diesel in 2020 because I knew how it was going to perform. I have a 2018 Ram SLT 4x4 towing a Rockwood Ultra Light 2304DS weighing 5550 empty, but it's tall and is a bit of a parachute.

We were towing a 6,200 lb travel trailer with a 5.7L hemi and we were getting around 7mpg. This last trip I rented a ram 2500 with the Cummins diesel and we averaged 13mpg. The cost of fuel is probably pretty close to what we would have spent on gas with the other tow vehicle however the ease of which that Cummins diesel managed all the heels and even passing slower vehicles was well worth the cost of renting. If I was moving our camper every month or more I'd definitely buy a diesel. Since we only move every 3 to 6 months for work then I'll just rent when I need it.

During the entire trip there and back plus driving through the Smoky Mountain State park, I averaged 11.3 Miles per Gallon. In North Central Texas, many GM and Ram dealers are taking 5000 off sticker since supply has caught up. I'm not sure about Ford. I have a2021 F150 XLT with the Max Tow package that i have enjoyed. My observation of driving all 3 brands in the 3/4 tons over the past few months is that the Ford doesn't give as nice as ride as the Ram or GM.

@jimmcknight3021
@jimmcknight3021 Ай бұрын
@2KrazyKampers This is true because Ram refuses to gross up the weight on the 3/4 tons. Everyone that I have seen is a GVWR at 10K pounds. Many, if not all of the GM and Fords will go several hundreds of pounds above that threshold. I am not sure of Rams reasoning, but it certainly limits what you can tow with their Diesel.

Stumbled on this video because I'm also looking to move into a 3/4 ton truck for towing our 33' (28' interior) bumper pull. Our current truck (an '03 Silverado 1500 HD, 5.3l V8, long bed) has the chassis for it, but the engine REALLY struggles, even on moderate hills. I'm retiring in 6 months, and my wife and I have decided that we're going to move into a 3/4 ton that has a lot more capacity than what's needed for our current rig. I'm not brand loyal. Based solely on online research, I think that the top of my list is a GMC Sierra Denali HD, in a moderate trim level, and most likely a gas engine. As you have been, I'm on the fence about going Diesel or Gas, but an currently leaning toward gas. In my Gas/Diesel trade, I had not considered that diesels get better gas mileage (I've never had a Diesel), which is appealing, even though diesel is more expensive than gas. Whatever engine I get, I do want ample low-end torque, as we plan to spend quite a bit of time camping in the mountains. I'm planning to make the purchase in November or December, and am hoping to get a good deal on a truck that has been on the lot for a while. Even so, the price tags on these things have me squirming in my seat. I'll probably pay cash (or close to it), but still, OUCH! Anyway, all of that as a preamble for saying thanks for the honest coverage of gas vs. diesel, considering your own biases (these are the most important for any buyer). Liked, Subscribed, and Bell Rung!

I'm browsing trucks - I favor Ford, so would go with Godzilla if we stay gas. I'd rather have the diesel and never give 2 thoughts about getting up, or down for that matter, the mountains once we finally take the opportunity to get out there. But she's fighting me on the diesel. Good luck with your purchase and enjoy retirement

We bought a 2024 Chevy 2500iHD High Country. Love it! We decided against diesel. Didn't feel that I needed the low-rpm torque of a diesel, didn't want to pay the extra $10K, and didn't want to have to deal with DEF and higher diesel prices (even with the better MPG of a diesel). The 2500 High Country pulls our rig like a dream. Pulled up some pretty steep grades this past weekend with no problem at all. Most importantly, my wife loves the ride and the creature comforts of the High Country. If Momma ain't happy.... LOL

Price and availability. As I said in the video, A diesel will not save you money however it does have more torque and make towing up and down mountains much easier. We just towed our new Alliance 294rk 2500 miles from Elkhart to NY to Florida and the exhaust brake alone made it worth it. Also, you can not put larger fuel tanks in gas trucks (at least legally). We were tired of having to stop every 100-150 miles with the gas engine. Our diesel truck has a 60 gallon fuel tank and when towing, we can go over 300 miles before getting to a half a tank.

A vortec 6.0L is good for at least 300,000 miles with no issues and there are a bunch of them with 400,000+ miles on them, tho. I agree a diesel makes sense if you are putting a ton of miles on the vehicle in a short amount of time or have a very heavy load to tow. But, it's really not needed in most cases and current regulations are really hurting diesel engine longevity. Hell, California may be outlawing them at some point.
