This really old video popped up on my recommended list. They didn't mention Mestinon at all - it's an older medication that's a new option to treat gastroparesis and digestive dysmotility. It stimulates the vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system, which are in charge of digestion and motility. Mestinon is also very low priced, and has much fewer side effects than other medications they give for gastroparesis. I have digestive motility issues due to my hypermobile type Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and Mestinon has been a huge help for me. Due to its effects on the autonomic nervous system, it's also worked wonders in treating my POTS and dysautonomia. The only side effect I've had is increased saliva production, but that's actually been helpful since it counteracts the dry mouth that one of my other medications gives me.

I have the gastric neurostimulator and love it. I've been sick since May of 2008 but wasn't diagnosed with Gastroparesis until July 2009. I've had my Gastric Neurostimulator for a little over a year now. Diet food changes and medicines were not helping me at all and in fact were making me worse. so thats why I got it :) Its not a cure but definitely has helped me:)

Does cannabis help your stomach empty allowing you to consume more or does it just help with nausea? Thanks!

I have the same issue. There are times there's too much food in my stomach for the pills to digest or they take too long to kick in. I'd have a hard time falling asleep so i'd take a pain pill but that wouldn't work so i'd sip a little nyquil and i'd be alright...except i'd feel super tired in the morning and later into that day because my digestion is so slow.

I have been diagnosed with GP as well as a pancreatic divium and mass in the head of my pancreas (non cancerous-biopsied last week). Severe abdominal pain that is unrelenting, n/v, bloating, belching, anorexia,heartburn so bad that it seems to produce fumes (really) etc etc for over 4 years now. When I first became sick I was employed as a nurse (2010). I would get so sick that I would often times grab a sheet, cover an open bed and have to lie in a fetal position b/c of the pain. Eventually, an ER visit discovered other medical issues but not the GI problems I had. The other issues (uterine tumors) were dealt with. Removed. Non malignant. However, at that time I lost my health insurance and have been without insurance until the Affordable Health Care Act became avail. After years of suffering and trying to manage this battle I found myself, once again, in the ER with GI symptoms. A CT discovered a 9x8 mm mass in the head of my pancreas. EUS with biopsy. Negative for cancer. Pancreatic divium was also discovered. Acute Pancreatitis as well (non drinker, although did drink significantly for a brief time following Katrina). The pancreatitis resolved and the n/v, heartburn and bloating have been significantly improved since taking Sulcrafate, Dexilan, Zofran/Phenergan (several times daily(, Miralax. Had a gastric emptying study last week which shows gastroparesis. My doc phoned me the next day and said to stop eating food and start a gastroparesis diet immediately and to "follow up in a few weeks". NO kidding! I know this is long but hopefully someone reading can guide me to better health. I am only 49! I questioned the doc about the results and inquired if GP had anything to do with the pancreatic issues. He says "no" they are merely a coincidence. I don't buy that at all. I asked for gastric enzymes and he said no. He said we will "discuss" my results when I visit him next. Of course I am not waiting several weeks to follow up. I made an appt for next week. That night I sent him an email stating that I understand the nature of my problem and there is not 'easy fix' but since being diagnosed he has refused to provide me with anything for abdominal pain. The other symptoms are manageable with the current meds and as long as I don't eat I am okay (soup broth only now). The next day I get a response from his nurse stating to take Tylenol and that the doc ordered something for my GI mobility (assuming Reglan, haven't picked it up yet) and to "take it 10-15 minutes before you eat". Well that is odd to tell someone who is not eating and only on gastroparesis diet of soup broth only! I am not sure what to think or do at this point. Prior to this I was the most physically strong women I knew. Nothing was impossible. Absolutely NOTHING. Now I feel like a loser, drain on society and unable to contribute to society. I am not depressed however. (been there done that after Katrina-never again) but worried without resolution I may head down that path again. If anyone can suggest how to manage this multiorgan problem and still maintain physical mobility without dependence on narcotics, please share. I have done my research and all I find is sick people all over with long term problems. If I am going to be this sick and in pain everyday then depression can only but set in. HELP..Advice anyone?

Blue Cross Blue Shield will not pay for this surgery. They turned me down saying it was to experimental. I've suffered with it for 21 years. I take Reglan, protomic, promethazine, zofran, ect. They help but still end up in hospital about every 3 monthes. It has been so bad I spent a week in CCU in critical condition. I've had all the stomach emptying test ( 30 minute, 1 hour, 2 hour). You name the test. I've had it at Baylor Dallas. I want the surgery but can't afford to pay for it myself. So I am just stuck in hell. Good luck getting insurance to pay for it.

I also have blue cross blue shield and have been approved for surgery next week. You may want to call your plan and talk to a patient advocate - thats what I had to do, but now they are going to cover my gastric neurostimulator

Do you live with the tube in your stomach now? Can you eat anything by mouth or does all nutrition go straight to your intestines? I have GP and paralysis in my intestines so don't know if the type of surgery you had would be of help to me. I think I just can't eat at all! I've lost 80lbs and still dropping. So much pain and my esophagus is eroding, as well as my teeth. Wah! :-

For some people, they found that they were low on stomach acid even though their M.D.s thought it was low stomach acid (HCL). We could try taking the Betaine HCL tablets to see if it works, but if it don't work, than the cause is something else.

Watch the video here - Gastroparesis (GERD) Cured - My Journey to Recovery- it will give you hope! In my opinion Western medicine doesn't have the answer to this. My prayer is that this video will empower you. Please let me know what your thoughts are on this. Thank you and bless you.
@chasethesun56036 жыл бұрын
Cyndy Perlman I've seen this video, and it made me upset. GP is not GERD. There is a HUGE difference, and as much as it helps, it only puts you in remission. The video isn't a cure, and it gives people like me false hope.

You don't understand the Syndrome dear. Try not to be ignorant, nor insulting. I am a medical professional, yet two of the GI Bleeds I've had for this nearly killed me. Life is not a joke. I see people die every day. I just haven't been one. Yet.
@cherylraudebaugh13817 жыл бұрын
jujub428 why would you want something that doesn't have a cure. treatment options suck. meds dont work for everyone people are littlerly starving to death. we have lost to many due to the complications of gastroparesis. malnutrition, dehydration, liver and kidney failure heart issues and the list continues.

i have this, it's not that bad. I feel some nausea when eating an actual meal and afterwards, but i can still enjoy food and keep it down, thank goodness. I just hope it doesn't ever get worse. Does anyone know if there is anything i can do to prevent it from getting to the point of vomiting and everything?
