Everyone with an interest in politics, will naturally have a bias in politics. That's why they are interested in it. It would be impossible to hire someone that had NO bias at all. The BBC do a generally good job at showing both sides of politics (If you believe that there is only 2 parties that matter).
@elthamo6 жыл бұрын
The BBC News and Current Affairs output is predominantly controlled by people with connections to the right wing and, as far as I know, there is NOBODY who comes from a left wing background involved in production or presentation. As an example, here are the presenters of one of BBC Radio 4's Week in Westminster since the turn of the year. NOBODY from the left. Steve Richards (Centre) 05/05/2018 George Parker Financial Times ? 28/04/2018 Kate McCann Daily Telegraph (Right Wing) 21/04/2018 The Sun's Tom Newton Dunn (Right Wing) 31/03/2018 George Parker Financial Times ? 24/03/2018 Paul Waugh Huff Post UK ? 17/03/2018 Sam Coates Times (Right Wing) 10/03/2018 Steve Richards (Centre) 03/03/2018 Tom Newton Dunn Sun (Right Wing) 24/02/2018 Paul Waugh HuffPost UK ? 10/02/2018 Anushka Asthana Guardian (Centre) 03/02/2018 Kate McCann Daily Telegraph (Right Wing) 27/01/2018 Isabel Hardman Spectator (Right Wing) 20/01/2018 George Parker Financial Times ? 13/01/2018

If you ask someone from the right they will give a list of people that comes on the BBC with left leaning views. The truth is the BBC does its best to balance its debates. But bias is everywhere. Its up to the reader/viewer to distil it, take the facts and make their own mind up.

How patronising did Gove sound by saying to Akala "I think that's one of your strongest points".. I sensed some condescension in his tone as he delivered that line. All being said Akala did well against 3 establishment chums (and seemed to scare all 3 men into binding together in an attempt to dispel validity of the arguments he was raising)

Ed Balls is a Labour politician, but he was terrible in this interview. I think it may be a bit of a case of something like Stockholm syndrome sadly for him; he received very unpleasant abuse/bullying (typical of Tory behaviour; they are trained in private school to do that) from the conservatives for a speech impediment etc., and I sense a certain complacency and chumminess with Gove etc. in his demeanour in this interview. So I wonder if he may have rather taken the route of 'if you can't beat them, join them', even if only to a degree, and unconsciously.

One problem here is that Akala isn't versed in TV debate voice and tone. He continually "ums" and "ahs" which, while is entirely acceptable, innocent and shows humbleness in a normal setting - is seen to be weak, especially by the supporters of his opponents. Though he can certainly use his fluidity of speech from his musical endeavours to great effect. Impressive effort overall.

It's very interesting for Michael Gove to be saying that "No-one is forced to consume media" - George Osborne (the conservative ex-chancellor) is now the editor of "The Evening Standard", which also runs another paper, "Metro". These papers are given out for free at stations, which means that 90% of people on their way to and from work every day are reading these papers (including me). The bias in them is subtle, but it's definitely there. Then there's all the Murdoch owned media, which we all know is biased. That accounts for most of the media consumed, and the most you can ever ask from the BBC is "Fair" - which they are occasionally, but they still play into this whole "Jeremy Corbyn is unelectable" spiel. I think most people have grown tired of that - it isn't an argument, or maybe it is, on the same level as "Fuck off you shithead". The polls right now are within the margin of error for him to actually WIN, but imagine where we'd be now if things were reported fairly in the majority of the media? Wake up, and don't let them dictate what you should do.

Akala didn't do too badly however he sort of missed an opportunity here; LSE did a "manufacturing consent" type empirical study of the media limited to the 2017 general election in the UK. He should have referenced there. The study showed a, wait for it, quelle surprise, a bias against Jeremy. It was available at the time of the interview. Referencing the LSE study would have buried the argument in the first minute and then they could have twiddled their thumbs for the remainder.

To try and help english viewers understand what Corbyn did what he did in regards to the IRA. IRA were reformed in the 70s due to the loyalist onslaught that took place following the civil rights movement for catholics in northern ireland. Northern ireland was formed as a protestant state for a protestant people, and the "undesirables" that wanted to be seen as equals caused a loyalist backlash. Now. Having said this, the provisional IRA's campaign in britain was a disgrace to the irish people. But closer to home in n.ireland the IRA were only 1 of MANY paramilitaries on both sides that used the barrel of a gun to force their ideology. The UVF, UDA, UDR and RUC do not get held in the same regard as the P.IRA, simply because they didn't kill people in Britain. A lot of people in northern ireland (other than loyalists) do not understand where the british media would be coming from in condemning Corbyn, as Corbyn condemned ALL bombing including the IRA. He knows that for peace to ensue in N.Ireland, all murdering paramilitaries on both sides must be help to condemnation, not just the IRA provisionals.

The reason we are seeing such a change in the tone of reporting on the two main political parties is that that broadcast media has to abide by rules on due impartiality in the weeks commencing an election. The Tory government has spent the best part of 7 years breaking down the processes in place set out within the BBC to ensure impartiality, with threats of taking away the licence fee and the BBC has rolled over. You only have to look on the surface of the editorial team for political and news programming which is now intrenched with Tory affiliates and former editors of right wing newspapers. www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-statements/category-2/broadcast-impartiality-accuracy-and-elections-rules-review
