I found this vintage flashlight from Japan recycle shop for $1. I love the look of this flashlight, but I do not like the technology. It is powered by 4 1.2V D type batteries with a total voltage of 2.4V. It is not very bright, while changing the battery is also difficult, because of these points, the flashlight was abandoned. I decided to incorporate next-generation technology into this flashlight so that it would be equally capable.
New Flashlight Information
- Rechargeable li-ion battery pack 12V, 17600 mAh,
- High and Low beam headlight 12V 60W
- COB LED Lamp 12V 12W
- 3.5 hours for headlight
- 17 hours for COB LED Lamp

Now, this is what I like to see, "Gear Show"! Taking something old and making it new without losing its original charm. It reminds me of a good, solid home renovation - you're maintaining the character while improving functionality. You've really hit the nail on the head with this one. That old Japanese flashlight wasn't doing anyone any good sitting in a recycle shop, but you saw its potential. It's all about looking past the surface, seeing what's underneath, and working to make it right - just like in my line of work. I love the upgrade you've given it - a rechargeable li-ion battery pack and high beam headlight, it's like taking an old house and installing new, energy-efficient systems. Not to mention the endurance of this thing, up to 17 hours with the COB LED lamp, that's like insulating your home properly. This is the kind of stuff I appreciate: high quality, durability, and most importantly, doing it right the first time. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve! Remember, if you're going to do something, do it right.

Excelente trabalho. Meu avô tinha uma lanterna dessa no sítio dele. Por causa deste vídeo boas lembranças voltaram, muito obrigado. Gostei do kit de farol de moto como proposta para substituir a lâmpada incandescente antiga. O painel de led também foi a melhor escolha, até achei que irias usar uma fita de led adesiva, mas o painel ficou mais legal. No final a lanterna ficou melhor, irá iluminar mais, e também ganhou autonomia das baterias. Eu imagino o quanto de lixo já foi gerado com anos e anos de uso de pilha AA, AAA, tipo D... e assim vai

What a great little bit of upcycling, really well researched and put together. I would have tried to make it water resistant, sealing all the external joints with windscreen sealant (butyl rubber) or something similar, but chap, that's something to be very proud of.

Nice job. I like the clean-up and rechargeable battery upgrade. But one thing I _don't_ like is the LED upgrades. I'd prefer to have seen the original fluorescent and tungsten lamps left in place. This would make it still operate similar in fashion to how it did originally.

I would have left the switch original and not done the half brightness mode but that's just my preference. I love your videos man, every time I watch one it makes me want too go to the thrift store and find a new project.

9:10 Always be careful when you want to mount power modules with hot glue. The heat from a high power circuit board is possible to soften or melt hot glue!

Автор установил мощные светодиоды на радиаторах охлаждения в корпусе без отверстий для охлаждения. Клей обязательно расплавиться при долгой работе. И хорошо если не расплавится корпус. Или сгорят светодиоды от перегрева.

Didn't you use any resistors, or how many amps does it draw from the batteries? I figured LED's pull as much as they can if given the chance. I would be happy if I got an answer

Nice retrofit. But there had to be some dumb luck in stumbling across parts that happened to fit. Thought those kinds of things may have needed more custom fabrication.
