Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I have ONE good inlay and a lot of failures but I really want to try again. You mentioned that the start depth plus flat depth should be equal to the pocket depth which is great to know which I don't think I did in the past. With the numbers .02" & .18" is that a pretty static formula? Does it vary slightly depending on the bit or maybe the design? Thanks again for the great insight!

Nicely done. Have you tried the V Carve inly tool in V12? If so, how does it compare to the system you have been using? It seems to be pretty cool the way it creates the plug and the pocket. But I'm curious how the numbers work out. Thanks Doug

Thanks for the follow up video brother. One question. I've been attempting to do inlays using the method and bit you've demonstrated with maple and walnut. Walnut being the female side and maple being the male side. When cutting the maple (male) side I'm experiencing tear out and chipping and the plug is ruined. I'm thinking this may have to do with feeds and speeds and/or use of a clearing bit. I'm needing some guidance as to how to cut clean plugs. Thanks again!

What F clamps do you use for clamping the negative and positive parts of the inlay?

In your first video you say (and show on screen) a start depth of .18 and cut depth of .2. This time you say starting depth is .02 and finish is .18. Which is it? Thanks for the content

Question on the video at 3:43 you say the start depth should be .2 start depth and the finishing depth of .18 is this not backwards of what it should be ?
