Who else came back to watch this after the XBOX showcase? I'm so glad we finally got an E-Day based game from Marcus' and Dom's perspectives.

I played all the Gears games with my Dad. It was something we enjoyed doing. Playing through the campaigns together. He passed away on November 9th and it hurts that I will never be able to enjoy my favorite series with him again. My favorite memory is playing Gears 3 with him and obviously player 2 plays as Dom. When this scene happened my Dad slowly got up off the couch and loudly said "WELL. Now that my character blew himself up, I guess I am going to bed". I laughed so hard that night. This scene will always be my favorite death of a character not only because it was a beautifully written scene of my favorite series but because it will forever hold a place in my heart with my father.

Every once in a while I come back to pay my respect to Dominic Santiago, RIP from a player 2 You where always my main character.

Love how she said "it's okay" to Marcus. Same words Marcus used to Dom when they found Maria.

Dom death is One of the saddest scene in game history!

the part that gets me the most is right at the part where Marcus realized what Dom was going to do. that feeling that you can't do anything to stop what is about to happen.

It makes me sad that and happy that Marcus named his son after his best friend... James Dominic Fenix...

That fact Markus knew he couldn't save him but wanted to try to get him shows how much he loved his brother in arms, RIP Dom you amazing man

Every part of Doms story is so tragic and sad. When I first played this game and got to this part where he was talking to his wife I cried a little bit not knowing what was about to happen... and then it happened. And I had to stop playing for like 20 minutes to cry. And I was serving in Afghanistan at the time too going through some shit at the time myself. Dom still is the best character for me.

I never noticed the knife dom gave marcus is the same one marcus kills the queen with and says its for dom.

I love how you showed the way he slowly began thinking suicidally, giving away his things to friends and leaving his tag with Maria, which is a big big indicator in itself, hence the foreboding musical sting. It's crazy watching this years later with the maturity and knowledge I have gained since, Dom is so much more human than he already was.

I knew Dom wasn't worried about coming back when he handed his knife to Marcus and didn't wait for it to be handed back to him. He had this in his head for a long time and saw it. He was ready. Some of the subtle things that story tellers do that can easily be missed. I openly wept when Dom had to kill his wife and I openly wept when he sacrificed himself for his friends. Such a heart wrenching scene.

To this day, this still makes me cry, a phenomenal character, Dominic Santiago is one of the greatest heroes of all time

I remember the first time playing that. The moment he looks down at the truck I started yelling no at the screen. After this scene I had to walk away from the game for a day.

Having watched Dom have to end Maria's suffering and to hear "You're with the kids now, so..." Dom doesn't get enough respect, and neither does the writing in this series.

Dom risked his life to save his squad and be reunited with his family. A true hero. I remember seeing this in Gears 3 and I knew that after seeing what happened when he found his wife and leading up to it in Gears 2, he was going to go senile after losing everything he held dear like friends, fellow soldiers, his kids and now is wife. A true legend who sacrificed himself so that his squad could live. And put his family first before his military life. He was going to be damned if he lost Marcus or anyone else and it was a touching tribute to him that Marcus put his Dominic as JD's middle name. James DOMINIC Fenix in Gears 4. RIP Dom! Gone, but not forgotten!

First time I saw this scene, I thought Dom was abandoning us. Leaving us to die. I fucking cried when I realized what he was actually doing.

Dom is a fucking incredible character.. he lost everything in a world where humanity is about to go extinct and yet he kept fighting, he stayed by marcus' side until the very end.. and you cant help but be a little happy for him that he finally got some peace and got to see his wife and kids again..

I once remembered that i disliked GOW because of the gore but i later learned about how it was essentially a war for survival in it's ugliest form and how each character was woven in made me realize how good of a game series it is

used to play this game with a kid in my neighborhood who looked exactly like me, just a bit younger. we beat all of gears 3 together and stayed up eating snacks and drinking soda. hung out all the time, it was awesome. this was the most shocking moment to date it literally killed both of us haha. looking back now i don't know if i cried but I'm 22 and crying at this scene now. probably a little messed up of a game to be playing that young but gears of war was a foundational part of my childhood. Lucas if you ever read this you were like the little brother i never had and i still think about you. I really hope youre doing good for yourself man.

It still gives me chills when he calls out for Dom the last time.

I will never forgive the person who spoiled his death for me.

I remember watching Dom go to the grave and talking to my friends in co-op hoping he would be able to heal and get with Sam. Then I saw him leave his tags and had a really bad feeling like it was foreshadowing...and I was right. My friends and I all stopped for a good 10 minutes after the cutscene.

The part where even after 1000% knowing that NO ONE could've survived that explosion...Marcus refuses to let Dom go is the hardest part ...

Never have I ever cried like that over a character in a game. Like I'd lost a family member.

To be honest, when I saw that first scene, with the Angel, I knew in my gut, that the clock was ticking for Dom. Didn't make it any easier, though.

Doms death hit all the player 2 massively

I could remember playing GoW 3 for the first time. About a week after it came out. Around that time, I was so excited with games that I'd finish them through within hours. I was about half the age I am now. I wasn't ready. Throughout the other campaigns, I never treated Dom as an actual character. Even when he was reunited with Maria. It really hit me. At the time, my father's death still had a huge impact on me. How someone could be there your whole life, and until the moment they're gone you realize how much they meant. I remember watching this scene for the first time. The second he turned the truck around, my heart had stopped. All I could do was hold my breathe and hope that they wouldn't kill off someone that's been there through it all. When he's speeding through the tunnel, my throat grew tighter. As he dedicated his last words to his wife, "Didn't think it would end this way huh? Huh Maria?" The words that pierced my soul. Realizing that in Marcus' expression, him and us, felt so helpless to the inevitable. I couldn't bear to watch the rest of it. My eyes were pouring rain. I couldn't breathe. To think that a character's fictional death could have such an impact on the consumer. It's truly amazing. I even remember when the trailer came out for Gears 4 and we saw Marcus being choked by the Swarm. I didn't want to experience that same pain, and thankfully it didn't come around

it's 2023 and i still remember playing thru this as a 15 year old. Best Gears Of War game of all time. I will ALWAYS and forever, remember and cherish this game no matter the time.

What made this game amazing for me is that it's the only game that's ever made me cry. Any music, art, photography, media that can move you like that is strong indeed. This game in my mind is masterpiece in that sense. It doesn't matter what you think about the overall gameplay, the shooting mechanics, etc. What matters is your reaction. To me the fact this made me cry made me realize I was more invested in the characters and their journey then I realized.

I cried when I was boy watching this, I still cry as an grown man watching this. One of the best scenes in gaming history.

You can tell Dom despite everything, didn't want to die. He shuttered before he drove back into the tunnel. He knew what was coming and he knew he was about to leave his brother. But he knew he would also be saving him. This death was done so damn well. God rest ye, Dom.

My younger brother and I always used to play; he being younger he always played as Dom. Then he passed away not too long after this game came out; this scene always hit different after that

This is one of the best moments in all of video games. The acting on all parts, the writing, the build up in game and in other games, mad world kicking in the moment it happens...One of the very few moments I wept for a video game as a teenager. Beautiful scene in a legendary series

Man I grew up with the whole series and this is still the most saddest moment In the whole game I cried so hard when we lost Dom I'm a guy It takes a real man to show his emotions who else agrees with me

This song has been used many times and each time it has been used, it always makes me cry.

This scene is why JD can’t die in Gears 5. At that point, Marcus had already lost his best friend (whom he said himself that he saw as a brother), both of his parents, and his wife, so JD is all Marcus has left. With JD gone too, Marcus would have nothing to live for anymore during Gears 6. He would be driven solely by vengeance against those that took away everything he ever loved, going down a warpath that would eventually lead to his own demise, and I don’t think any of his friends that are still alive would be able to save him from himself, not even Baird or Cole, seeing as they didn’t really have the same kind of influence on him that Dom and JD did.

Whos watching this in 2020 just to remind yourself how bad this year is but to stay strong

I remember playing Gears of war 1-4 with my older brother, and man what long day completing it but it was still worth it. With Gears 5 on the way I'm looking forward to play the new story mode, Brothers To The End.
