There's a record sale that keeps showing up on Instagram and Facebook that seems to good to be true.

Give them a Debit Card Number with no funds and watch them reach out to you. This is a good way to get you know a potential scammer.

I was on my break at work and happened upon the ad. Couple things I noticed while adding items to my cart: after a certain point, the total being added to the cart was going down, not up. Subtotal would be let’s say $80; I’d add another record, and the new subtotal would be $78. This continued to happen, and it would grow by a few cents. When I went to shipping, the total charge said $99999.00 shipping. I didn’t enter any personal information, and I didn’t pursue any further. I thought it was too good to be true so I clicked around on it and when that happened I closed the page.

It's probably the same criminal organizations that are also doing it on sites selling musical instruments. I believe the collectable toys collectors are having the same issues with online scams.

Yep, with me it was TV shows on DVD, 'cuz I buy a lot of those. They data-mine you to figure out what you're into, and they gear the sale to that. That's why I got DVDs, Robert got LPs, you got musical instruments and toys... they gear it to what'll make you bite.

For a store that was going out of business it's funny they had the new Aerosmith Box Set that just came out. Why would a store going out of business still be getting brand new releases and then sell them for $6.99....Huge Red Flags all over it.

I keep seeing the ad, but never clicked on it. I assumed it was just single LPs, but knowing that it supposedly extends to LP box sets is hilarious. I'm not sure how anyone could believe that. Can I throw in a copy of "The Rolling Stones in Mono" while I'm at it?

Actually, the complete opposite happened to me. Somehow I received a message from someone whose profile was deleted a day or two later, giving me a link to download the entire Gene Simmons Vault 11 CDs. This happened a few days after the first appearances and deliveries of those overpriced trinkets started. I am grateful to that guy, whoever he was, for it satisfied my curiosity about the "music" in there. I pity the fools that paid $2K- $50L for that shit. People with more money than sense.

This looks as good as the recent Sound of Vinyl deal at $0 but pay shipping on each LP. That was legit. But stealing someone stealing a store name is a problem and multiple store names is a giveaway (allegedly no pun intended).

Is that a Peaches Records t-shirt? We use to have one in the Dayton, Ohio area and it was pretty neat. The last time I was there the employees were on strike for better pay. It's a shame it went bankrupt.

There is a similar site purporting to be EMI record company.If you buy €50 worth of vinyl they will GIVE YOU a FREE record player.Really???....all of this of course is alledged but I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

I saw the add, opened the webpage immediately felt that there was a lot of stuff that should be sold out and none of the stuff you'd expect from a massive record store inventory. That and there was a similar ad with a different record store name a few scrolls down. A couple days later there was a similar ad with table top games, a few more scrolls and it's a combined record store and table top game store.

Yes, I took advantage of the Stevie Ray Vinyl Helicopter offer, I got all 3 names, an FBI shield, a couple dozen vintage Barbies, the entire Jo Jo Gunne collection, the one-off Cactus live at Coho Arena, a selection of Leo Sayer 8-track tapes, and an autographed photo of Sonny Bono. It was a massive deal.

I had someone that wanted to give me a free macbook that was her sons who never had a chance to use it because he died. She had posted her sob story on a local homeschooling Facebook group. I actually had sent her a message telling her that she was scamming people, and I then immediately deleted the message for the scammer and I and they still sent me that message. i reported and blocked her. I buy and resell online and I've only had about 50 scammers try and get my phone number.

I was lucky enough to score the Pearl Jam Ten Box Set brand new for AU$5, but that's an EXTREAME rarity...I was working at a huge department store in Australia and they were discontinuing all physical media and it all had to go. Records, CDs, BDs and of course vinyl. Sometimes you get lucky 😁

I Brought 3 of the David Bowie box sets for $36 each from ali express years ago, They are exactly the same as the "Official" ones but hundreds of dollars cheaper - Everything is the same Discs, Covers, Books probably made in the same factory just cheaper which means better. I Paid about $800 for the last 2. Just the other day I Thought I brought a Copy of Becks "Modern Guilt" the Zumba version with the DVD, Stickers, Tote bag with the lyrics printed on it and Weird Zumba case for $65 - I Got Suspicious when the order Number was 1212121 right about then I thought Oh No - Of course there was no E-Mail from them thanking me for my purchase.

I just paid around $250 for Bowies Loving the Alien cd boxset off ebay. The seller claimed it was the last one, then after I bought it, they relisted another one. Seems kind of sketchy.

@tonyeamon5118 if the discs are "Silver" they are the Chinese versions the "Real" ones were "Gold" I'm guessing a lot of the ones on websites will be the Chinese ones as there is no way to check before buying - But the "Fake" ones are exactly the same as all the rest, perfect copies, the Chinese are very good at what they do.

Mostly Chinese pirate copys which are OK but the product quality is never as good as the legit issues especially if you get the box sets, and resale value is minimal if you describe as "made in China"

I’m wondering if the Sound of Vinyl is also a legit website who’s name is being used by this scam. I’ve ordered a record from them in June and got the record in a week no problems. Their inventory seems to be priced normally (27.99 to 38.98) for new lps, some if the box sets on the site going for 199.99???

A word about Discogs, I am trying to become a "new seller" I am still in their pending stage with a couple of "Radio Shows" (of which I have many) that I'm trying to sell. I have been waiting for their approval since July with absolutely no sign of my wares being approved. I understand there are a bunch of rip-offs but I gotta make some room here and get rid of these Shadoe Stevens (with cue sheets) radio shows. There is no way this is not a scam. They could get more wholesaling out to resellers for each unit and have those purchasers come to them for more than 6.99 each

Yeah, Discogs is the last place I would buy an album it’s one thing about the obvious scams, but Discogs could care less if people scam on their site I would say allegedly almost encourage it… also not to mention you can’t even get a pic of the album without going through a whole dance! @@timkimware3537 I mean luckily the scammers are easy to identify on discogs, but the amount of obvious scams on wanted or hot items are just incredible I don’t think the scammers are as prevalent on eBay, and they will refund your money promptly if it is. Whereas you have to deal with PayPal if you are scammed. As for as I know I’ve never had to deal with it just what I hear. I just wish they would add a report seller button like other auction sites have. I’ve tried to report scammers on there and never get a reply outside of the generic email they send out. The only reason I care it does affect the value of our collections when people are scamming a $100 plus album for $20. Sorry for the long rant 😆

@@RobertFithen For reasons I cannot figure out, my 3 attempts at explaining details about the site in question all got deleted despite me trimming the language down each time. I did not use the full domain name because I know YT will hide posts like that. I saw another post by someone who was very vague aside from saying where they got some info, and that post was also removed. It's frustrating because I hate scams and wanted to be explicit about what I found, but some bizarre algorithm is deciding that it's not ok.

I know that the YT algorithm hides posts containing external links because the YT help site says so, but beyond that, I'm not sure what it looks for. It's weird because I've seen some extremely offensive posts that get past the scanning algo. I started wondering if it was a reference to the "whois" lookup site, but I've seen that site referenced in comments before. I suspect it's some complex combination of factors which are hard to decipher. Really frustrating when you're trying to help people.
