The Nazgul were the most terrible servants of Sauron and one of the greatest enemies to the Free People of Middle-Earth. Their dreadful aura and Morgul Blades were the bane of many a great warrior and few could stand before them and survive. If one was faced with such dire circumstances, was there any way for them to defeat and overcome the Nazgul by exploiting their weaknesses? And if so, what were these weaknesses?

Hey guys I hope you enjoy these new videos! As I mentioned in the community tab, I'll be increasing significantly the number of livestreams and live content on this channel so that I can still hang out with you all. I won't be narrating these videos for the foreseeable future (at least until my studies are complete), and so I hope that you manage to give this new direction a chance. As always subtitles are available and feedback is welcome! :)

Does it have anything to do with the hatred for living? Cause water stands metaphoracilly for life, and since the ringwraiths gave their life away for an existence as slaves of Sauron, it would make sense for them, to not want or be able to cross water.

I still think one of the most terrifying scenes in all of cinema is in Fellowship when the hobbits just escape Farmer Maggot’s field and the Nazgul comes riding down the road. They hide under the tree roots, and but for the grace of Samwise, Frodo almost puts on the ring revealing the four hobbits to a foe that would have been completely beyond them, especially at the time. All the spiders and centipedes crawl out of the roots as the Nazgul grips the bark…. The feeling of dread that these wraiths emanate was never more palpable to me than in that scene.

Great video. :) I can't really think of many Nazgul weaknesses that you might've missed, except that adding the wizards' ability to duel them would've been worth adding on. What strategy would I use to defeat the Nazgul? Probably bodies of water to avoid direct conflict with them if I can due to my lack of swordsman skills, probably combining this with the strategy of division by using bodies of water to try and lure and divide the Nazgul. I'd also definitely favour making use of fire against them like Aragorn did. And I would try and keep a Dunedian blade handy if I can, maybe see if I can make it into arrows with the same effect with which to shoot the Nazgul. Crying out Varda's name seems like it would also be appropriate, but Id only use it as a last resort likely, because if the Nazgul do indeed fear people who evoke that name because it makes them think the person is a foe to be reckoned with, I don't want the Nazgul to start considering me a serious threat that they'll have to try much harder to take down than they already were.

@LordMortanius
@LordMortanius 3 жыл бұрын
The Lossoth people believed that the Lord of the Nazgul could manipulate the cold and winter, for what it's worth. Angmar's history is overblown, mostly because the former master of that place was still called the Witch-King of Angmar despite ruling Minas Morgul for far longer. It was a throwaway kingdom built up on Sauron's orders to screw over the people of Arnor.

Seems like the ideal way to fight Nazgul would be to wear chain and platemail to block the Morgul blades and avoid the worst attack they could use, get wet before fighting so they're more hesistant to touch you, and use a weapon covered in burning oil, so any strike against them hurts a lot more. Burning the robes also would likely hinder their ability to physically touch anything, since they technically have no bodies. If it happens to be the Witch King in particular, heavy armor and fire would both keep you warm, which would likely have the bonus of weakening any freezing effect he might want to use.
@danieldeclue1466
@danieldeclue1466 6 ай бұрын
The way I always saw it, is that if you are able to muster the courage to fight against the nozzle, you would realize that they have no more power over you than another man would. The flip side of that is that if you allow that fear to take hold of you, then it allows them to perform greater displays of darkness. Such as, when the witch King was able to Sunder the doors of gondor. This was from an added demonic force from sauron, but I definitely think the fear of the soldiers in that moment, sort of almost gave the darkness permission to do what it would. But essentially, the point is that for those who have the courage and strength to pick themselves up and stand against them, will find themselves fighting what appears to be less than, which they are

Ulmos spirit inhabiting all the waters of Middleearth seems plausible with one exception, "The Watcher in the Water." This episode was riveting. Sorry for the delay.

Both water and fire have been seen in different cultures as purifying, it makes sense that the ringwraiths would be adverse to it

so water and fire are both elements that cleanse impurities that's likely what JRRT was thinking when he gave them that weakness.

I've always wondered whether they were a threat or not without their robes. Can they physically attack someone without something like their robes anchoring them to the physical world or without them all they can do is use their fear aura and none of their spells or combat abilities. Certainly I have never read about them fighting or using their magic without wearing their robes. So do they need their robes or not?

re - 5:20 I think it's a misinterpretation that the Nazgul lost track of The Ring when it crossed the river. I think the reason they lost track of it, was because it was now within the area of influence of Imladris and Elrond's ring of Air. I think THAT is why they lost track of it. However, if you're right and it IS because of something about crossing a river then I would expect that the answer lies in Ulmo's lap. I mean, he was never happy with abandoning Middle Earth the way the rest of the Valar were. It is said that he always maintained a presence in the world, in all its waterways. In the same way as we can tell that in other parts of LOTR, that Manwe, or Varda is helping in this way or that way, I think this might have been Ulmo's way of helping.

Warding magic... I believe it is safe to assume that due to the fact that they have spiritual forms one can deduce that magic or spells created to ward off evil spirits demons or other creatures that may or may not exist in this fantasy world should have some effect upon them... Though this affect may be small due to the fact that they're very existence in this state is probably due to magic in the first place, I believe such spells or abilities would at very least hinder them in some form.... Perhaps at the very least it would give them the sniffles and dry eyes..... Worst case it has no effect..... And if not a weakness directly then perhaps it can be away to manipulate them.... Perhaps they can't help but notice it due to its magic allowing it to be used as a way to distract them. Kind of like an annoying light bulb that keeps flickering, becoming a visual distraction or a way to divert their attention....

It is in accurate to claim that the Nazgul did not possess significant fighting ability when it literally says in the books, “mighty in their day, kings, sorcerers, and warriors of old.” Especially considering that it is a stated fact that 3 of the 9 were Numenorians and the men of Numenor are by far vastly superior in all regards to virtually every other race save the Elves that saw the Light of Valinor.
