I'll just add that even if you're not there yet with your style, pulling it off is what makes you most hype. I'll learn a combo and memorize tech as best I can, but pulling those off in a match doesn't move the needle for me. Getting a hard read on my opponent three times in a row in three different ways does, even if I can't capitalize on it for beans. That feeling that you can see the future is just the best.

Something I love doing as zato is using 214K (Break the Law) to go under and cross up the opponent on the other side and grab them when I come up. It's extremely easy to punish, since the more time you stay under, the longer it takes to come up. But that just makes it funnier when it works. 1 Grab: Lmao gottem 2 Grabs: GYAHAHAHAH I CANT BELIEVE IT WORKED AGAIN 3 Grabs: Jaw unhinges into maniacal laughter 4: Grabs: Ascension

As a “heart” player myself it’s hard to play a game consistently when I’m struggling, not losing, but struggling. I don’t necessarily care for frames, matchups, skill checks etc, just wanna have fun and do dope stuff feeling like I’m fighting in an Anime or something. Much less stress and disappointment this way.

I am literially this person, once I hit a wall in a fighting game and am told to do research, I don't want to pick up a notebook and watch other people play the game. I wanna be unga bunga and beat up my friends, not do homework

@@theidealbaron7403 Most of the time improvement comes from just paying attention to the way your opponent plays and how you play. I can't tell you how many times I've played people who have tons of matches into the game and have easily fixable habits. But yea don't expect to beat people who actually play to improve.
@theidealbaron7403

Im definitely mostly a heart player. Im out here zoning out pulling out combos on reaction I've never been able to do on purpose. I think that if you fight this way, its more important for you to memorize what your options are at any given moment, and how to convert from the most common occurances.

Love the video! Quick correction: the conditioning usually used in fighting games is operant conditioning, not classic conditioning. Classical conditioning can influence emotional response, but cannot affect actions outside of involuntary stuff like sweating or drooling. It's about expectations and gut reactions. Operant conditioning causes people to change their behavior based on reward and punishment. It's the same psychology that gatcha games use to make people think they'll get that cute waifu jpg if they spend five more dollars. And five more dollars. And five more dollars. And five more dollars. And five more

I main Faust specifically because he is meticulously designed and built for focusing on unpredictability and improvised gameplay, which is also why he doesn't really fit into the standard fighting game archetypes, like, Faust ain't exactly a zoner but he isn't rushdown and he isn't a grappler, he's FULL HEART ALL THE TIME. It's by far my favourite type of fighting game gameplay.
@malo2214

For me, I think DBFZ has the biggest examples of heart players. When I'm able to get into the zone and I start doing things the player doesn't expect it leads to really fun scenarios. A good example Ive got is during an intense round I was down to my last character Jiren. And I made it a habit during the match to run up and do his command grab to try and force a response on the opponent during a hard knockdown. It came to a point where he started doing things to punish me for it. So after a few exchanges, I got another hard knockdown. Instead of running up and grabbing, I stayed back and did his rapid punch/236C attack, and the opponent woke up superd to try and do a reversal. But the ranged attack hit him out of it. And I won the game because of it. I wasn't actively trying to get him to do this, but in the moment I decided, hey what if.

Idk if you'll see this but happy bday. Btw, this seems like an AMAZING video idea, I loved Core-A's video so it's nice to have a more in-depth analysis series. Also, since it's bday, it is only expected to have some flattery, so here it comes: Out of all the analysis channels I know (I watch a ton of them) you seem to be the second best at energy, second only to Core-A (note that Core-A uploads more rarely so has more time to perfect the pacing), you, Stumbleblee and Core-A are the big three of hype videos, they're fast, analytical and sometimes comedic, whereas others suffer from bored voices, bad pacing, worse video idea picks (speaking of that, you are out of the box with some videos, like the luck one), boring editing, etc. Keep up the good work!

always loved being a heart player, playing footsies, making reads, having fun, styling on and frustrating your opponents, it just feels so good, and in my opinion it's way more interesting to understand how the game and the players work and play around that rather than remembering everything and calculating in advance. it's those moments, when you get a bad situation and find a way to overcome it that give you a great amount of pleasure and satisfaction and by not knowing everything this happens a lot more often (of course I still learn stuff and spend time in training mode, but only the stuff that I really need). that's why I like samsho, because it's all about footsies and mind games, and 3d fighters, because the amount of freedom that you get to (quite literally) play around your opponent and the impact of doing so are so much bigger than in 2d fighting games and especially anime fighters(even though you still need to learn and remember a lot especially in tekken).

I feel like the best heart based playstyle should be like a mix between brains and body, and then some more. Having enough knowledge to know your tools and your opponent's, having enough reflexes to attack and react, but then throwing creativity into the mix, and taking into consideration your opponent's and your own mental state, and being able to tell when they're getting impatient, or more defensive, or too cocky, and being able to go along with the match. Kinda like the concept of flow state and Wu Wei

When I am full screen as Axl, the opponent typically jumps expecting me to do the command grab but I almost never do that move in expected situations like that so they usually jump into my 6K after running into mid range for some meter. I love how the player base has conditioned opponents for me ^^
