I think it would be helpful if the footage matched what is being said a little more, especially if lack of footage isn't the problem, the throw section has very little footage of throws and no footage of teching a throw. The footage of both does appear in the command throw section as well as the other sections of the video. That's just one example, the video footage overall feels very separate from what's being said.

For those wondering a fuzzy is 1. Fuzzy guard. A technique where you change your blocking in a specific way to beat multiple options with different timings, most commonly low then high to beat a quick low or slower overhead 2. An unfortunate way some people refer to fuzzy guard break, a kind of counterplay to fuzzy guards. You make your opponent block a jump normal which forces them to stay standing for a moment, even if they start blocking low, allowing you to hit them with a rising jump normal for a fast overhead
@Pokemonmovemaster
@Pokemonmovemaster 11 ай бұрын
I want to throw this in, but there are a few games where traditional fuzzy guard break doesn't work because rising jump normals are programmed in as mids. I know DBFZ and MB:TL do this if you try something like Bardock j.H>rising j.L or Hisui j.B>rising j.A. I think they still have 'fuzzy guard breaks', but idk what they refer to because the meaning I'm used to doesn't exist in those games lol.
@MilkyCao
@MilkyCao 11 ай бұрын
quick clarification: there are more definition to fuzzy than just fuzzy guard some game specific, some not. So if someone is using the term fuzzy in a way you're not familiar with, they might be refering to something other than a fuzzy guard so feel free to ask them, and if they refuse to answer bark at them about how they're using a term you don't understand and you're trying to understand so if they don't want to explain the term then don't use it! ... imma be honest some usages of fuzzy are THAT niche that it's quicker for me to just explain it as this.

It gets even more confusing when you talk about 3D fighters. In addition to having lots of game specific terminology like Orbitals, Hellsweeps, Electrics, Nose Bleed Stun, While Standing, Butterflies, Strings and more when you're talking about Tekken, there's also the fact that some terms used in 2D fighters might mean something slightly different in a 3D fighter.

I’ve noticed an issue with this video that you might have not noticed. Even when explaining all of these terms, you still use some terms that to a complete beginner to a fighting game wouldn’t really make much sense. For example, you mention “long buttons” at a bit before the 4 minute mark. When I started playing, I was confused as to what this referred to. I thought “pushing buttons” simply referred to people mashing while blocking and getting punished for it. Another pair of them that’re especially difficult to understand are “gameplan” and “win condition”. Sure, on paper they might seem self explanatory. Gameplan is what you plan to do, win condition is a situation where you’ve got what you need to win unless you make a big mistake or the opponent reads you. But these both have some very important context when mentioned in fighting games. When I was new, I didn’t really understand what these terms encompassed because I knew the general meaning of them, but I had no idea what a gameplay actually looks like or what a win condition is, since that one just sounds like guaranteed win on its own. Just wanted to point out that these could have also been explained better.
@adzi6164
@adzi6164 11 ай бұрын
well, I can explain "long buttons" First, "buttons" usually refer to what is also known as "normals" - the, uh, normal attacks that you make just by pressing buttons. Sometimes it also encompasses so-called "command normals", which are normal attacks that are done by pressing a button while also pressing a directional input (but just a single direction). "Long buttons" are a term for normal attacks that reach the furthest horizontally from attacks that the given character has. Those attacks are often kicks in games focused on unarmed combat. btw "pushing buttons" is not really a term, and it doesn't refer to button-mashing.

As another has pointed out, this is a great video but the footage is very disconnected from the subject. I know a lot of terms already, but I imagine someone struggling trying to understand all these terms being rapid-fired at them, while the footage has no visual indication to help them at all. Showing actual footage of how baiting a throw tech would look like, when you talk about those for instance, would be really helpful. Like imagine you don't know any of this and you try to understand 11:50 without any footage...

@adzi6164
@adzi6164 11 ай бұрын
OD is more of a New York slang than any technical term - it basically means "too much" or "very powerful" "Fuzzy" is one of the least well-defined terms... as a rule of thumb, it can be used to describe a situation, where a player is trying to effective attack, or block, low and high at the same time (or rather, alternate between low and high using specific techniques to defend against a mixup, or to circumvent the defense)

The hardest part about tekken for meis getting used to blocking high as a panic option rather than low (for me who has been into 2d fighters for 5 years and is still bad) In tekken, low block only blocks special mids and low attacks. But most* quick moves are highs and mids which can only be blocked by high.

Honestly… I already know most of the language. It’s not so much of an issue of knowing what the words mean, and more of a problem with what they have to do with one another, and when they’re being said rapid-fire in conversation. Like… I know what meaty, footsies, wake-up, shimmy, QCF, DP, advantage, initiative, jump-in, read, empty jump, fireball, mix-up all mean. But when you put them in a sentence like: “So I QCF to put my fireball out to cover my jump-in, he responds with a DP, but I read him with an empty jump, so I have the advantage and combo him, then, on wake-up I hit him with a meaty punch to keep the initiative, then pull out a throw mix-up. Did you get all that?” I mean… I understand it reading it word for word, but like hell if I know what I’m supposed to get out of it. It’s like comprehending a foreign language after you learn to read it.

@@itsaUSBline mate, I’ve played at least a dozen of these games lol. I dunno, maybe it’s just a me thing, but given that I see the same thing arise when I’m trying to teach people the rules to more modern board games, I’m tempted to say you guys are just quicker on the uptake than a stark majority of people. Could be my sample is skewed, but teaching people how to strategize using the rules under the hood of fighting games is an exercise in futility that ends in blank stares and bewildered people. Put that on top of the fact that the games can be resolved in less than a minute and- well… I think you guys drastically understate how fast and intelligent you have to be to get anything out of this kinda stuff, lol.
