Gelli Printing with Foliage - Using Plants in "the negative print" on the Gel Plate

Hi All!
Today I am exploring gelli printing with foliage, photo negative printing style. In the past there was a technique that might be used once in a great while, called "the negative print." It was used for artistic purposes and introduced more white into the photo image."
I have been noticing my work on the gel plate gravitating towards the topics of flora, fauna and natural elements of nature. In today's studio session I am doing masks and pulling traditional reliefs using some plants and branches from near my studio. Enjoy!

These are absolutely wonderful! Golden has a short video showing if you mix 4 parts red iron oxide and 1 part yellow iron oxide to get the Nickel Azo Gold. I tried it and I like it.

Golden high flow tends to dry quickly. I put that down first then go thicker on top which picks up that first layer. I love your work. There are lots of gelli people on KZfaq and your work is the best I’ve seen…you elevate it to fine art. I have a similar style.

I couldn’t be more delighted. Botanicals are my absolute favorite but didn’t believe they could work that well with the plate. Love the size, the colors and the idea of drawing over it. How come you always make everything look DIFFERENT??? Million thanks.

How long did. It take for you to notice your clean up sheet (the paper you are rolling off the paint from your Breyer) was laying across the gelli plate ?

That was enjoyable, and I felt like I was right there with you. The way you work reminds me so much of myself, altho I barely dabble and have just started with gel plates. I love your simple registration idea. I loved the colors. My first tries with gel plates were with botanicals I had gathered , with nothing impressive as a result. But I am inspired, thank you!

I find that Liquitex Basics titanium white or another opaque color picks up everything. I love the Tree Of Life…and don’t call it a ghost…call that print GOLD! It’s beautiful.

Golden recommend the following mixture for Quin. azo gold. mix transparent red iron oxide with nickel azo yellow 4:1. Someone else suggested magenta + green gold. I haven't tried either as yet.

I am new to gel plate printing, but have fallen in love with it. I have learned so much from your video- this is the first of yours I’ve watched, I’ll be bingeing more! Two questions though- 1) how did you go about getting the edging on your plate. That is the style I’m going for, but I’m getting very defined edges. 2) would you consider doing a consultation zoom to help me more with my technique? Thank you for your video!

May I ask what kind of ink you used in the print with the eucalyptus leaves? (The black ink that you outlined the leaves with.) It seems to be raised and have quite a shine. I’d love to buy some.

I love this technique!!! I have to admit that I haven’t been watching your content much lately but this is amazing!!!( as you mentioned in the video you got your “mojo” back). Have you ever thought of using nail art paint brushes for painting (like when you traced around the leaves? They create a super thin fine line, sort of like calligraphy brushes in miniature. Think they would be perfect for this sort of thing.

I see a base color needs to be added to the bottom to imitate rocks and grass in order to plant the tree. It is floating as shown.
