Bopie wants to see Mike cut an unusual Garnet, so he has decided to cut a piece of Fanta Orange Spessartite Garnet, which is a very rare and valuable stone, treasured for it’s intense orange color. Watch as award-winning lapidary, Michael Sackos, facets this incredible gem into the “Sunset Vista” design by Arya Akhavan.

I think that is the lighting. I have and have cut some color change garnet, but this spessartite is not color change.

Thanks for letting me know! Your design looked great in Amethyst and Citrine...I'll have to give it a try in something like Spessartite.

I've just started collecting gemstones, rock slabs, I've not ventured into faceting, but I might have to take a better look at it. This stone is absolutely gorgeous the color is so eye popping catchy.

Thank you. Well, since you are collecting slabs, you might try starting out with a cabbing machine and creating cabochons for a while and then later get a faceting machine. The cabbing skill will help you with your faceting, especially where you need to preform a piece of rough. Best of luck to you.

You always do such beautiful work. I just remembered watching a young lady who has several cats and a Facetron machine. I don’t remember her name or her channels name. But I’ll try to find out. Anyways..... I think you'd find her designs quite interesting and Bopie might too. This little gal creates flower inspired designs and some even have facets that aren’t polished totally. I'm more of a traditional, symmetrical, calibrated, larger and fewer facet type person. But the orchid cut Iolite she did, was REALLY pretty.

Amazing!! Once again. I’m still practicing on my facetron , it’s analog but so far so good. I was wondering if you had any pointers on how to get gem quality rough at a decent price? Thanks again for a great video mike !
@mikesackos2208
@mikesackos2208 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! As far as buying quality rough at a decent price...well...my opinion is that it takes years to learn how to evaluate rough and find and build relationships with the right vendors. My main pointer to new cutters is to not buy parcels (lots) of rough, buy individual pieces.

Hello. Nice job! Can u show how do u make a transfer? I use the mix.. first part I facet with wax, then transfer it on to the super glue.. so it is very easy to transfer using the burner... So it would be nice if u share the easy method of transferring glue-to-glue.. Thank u in advance

Great work! When you have pocket open-up like that on one/some of the facets, how do you clean them to prevent cross-contamination as you move-on to the next/finer grits?
@mikesackos2208
@mikesackos2208 Жыл бұрын
I have not worried about cross-contamination of my laps too much....if a lap picks up something from the gemstone, I stop what I am doing and clean it. Rather than cross-contamination, the issue I face in the situation you are describing is how to polish that facet.

I’ve recently made it through all of your videos thanks for all of the hard work - I’m totally obsessed and working on getting my hands on a faceting machine!! I love your opening graphics and wondered what the inspiration for the dog in the video is - I previously assumed it was your dog (because most people try to incorporate their pets into things like this) but now I wonder if the “international jewel their” is a shout-out to Jaws over at Vintage Times? Cliff used the same laughing dog audio in his topaz video that I am currently watching 😂

Thanks! I would say those old cartoons produced by Hanna-Barbera are the inspiration for my opening cartoon. Yes, I do know Cliff, and enjoy his videos, but no, the "Jewel Thief' wanted poster has absolutely nothing to do with Cliff...in addition to Cliff's videos, I enjoy watching many other gem cutting videos....beside Cliff, there is More Gems, Gems by MBK, Stuart Gems, and several other cutters with only a couple of videos out so far....I try to watch them all, and enjoy watching gem cutting videos! Yes, in fact, Bopie and I have two small Maltese dogs named Bella and Jackie. Maltese's are white. I have toyed with putting them on screen...if you use you hand and fingers like a gun and 'shoot' Jackie, he will fall over an play dead....if you are nice to Bella, she will give you a wink...so...maybe there is a future video featuring Bella and Jackie...who knows.

I got mine from Amazon. I did hear from another cutter when he ordered the Helios glue from Amazon, the package he received was already dried out. I have seen other sources on the web when I googled Helios UV glue, but I don't know if you will have any issues with glue from those sources or not.
