Learn to talk like a pro so that you don't get the tourist price in negotiations. This is (hopefully) a clear description of all the parts of a gemstone or common gem materials you will find in markets and shops. This will help you observe stones and their qualities more effectively

Thank you ~ specimens (especially with terminated crystals) are the stuff of legends. How many of us used to think geometry was just a subject they made up to torture us in school? Crystals give you a completely different appreciation for it eh?

@@GemologyforSchmucks well I surely did.. But since you mentioned it, now I have a new perspective bout it. But still if someone ask me to do geometry right now, I will still say "no thank you"..lol

I really love your videos and your energy Peter! I‘ve just recently become interested in Gemology and I really want to learn more and be good at it. I've seen all these courses online: GIA, FGA, etc. Have you taken any of these courses? Is there any course that you would recommend for total newbs? 🤔

I have a kunzite that has slight chipped edges. Is it best to get it recut or just leave as it is due to the fact its a fragile stone.
@GemologyforSchmucks
@GemologyforSchmucks Жыл бұрын
It can be quite difficult to find a cutter that is willing to cut Kunzite at all, let alone repair. The 3 directions of easy cleavage make it a dangerous stone to deal with. If the chips aren't horrendous, i'd say enjoy it or sell it as is. Once it goes to recutting, the chances of it going down substantially in value are high.

That sapphire rough is super interesting and cool. Is it purple or is it green?i ask because of that tiny green sapphire that is purple in some pictures...i assume its lining up with a purple axis and the camera gets more purple light even tbough the eye sees green because we see green easier than other colors...that is my best guess... That aqua speciman is so beautifull! do coin rings hold stones well? Because it is layers of material i wonder if that presents any issue...besides on gold or platinum group metals , it seems like the edges of the layers would maybe corrode or at least heavily oxidise . You should totally make a crown. You could make a larger scale wax casting or use metal clay if that can have settings cut into it...i saw one video where the woman demontrating the stuff ,heated a garnet until it was glowing red . its insides shattered and the outside stayed intact...somehow...it was horrific.

The purple rough in this video is indeed purple sapphire. If it is looking green, then perhaps your computer has some exciting colour settings :D Coin rings can be made from many different types of coins and all those coins are made from different materials. If you used a silver dollar for example, it would be just like using a normal silver ring. Whether or not it holds a stone well would come down to how well the setting was created~ If you want to see an artist that casts stones with the metal directly onto the stones, check out Polly Wales. That's a huge part of her style. Though I object to such abuse of corundum XD

@@coreymerrill3257 There's definitely bizarre things that happen between gemstones and cameras. I've seen inky blue-violet stones go sky blue behind the lens. Some of that science-witchcraft i suspect.
