How much is my gemstone worth? This is one of the most common questions in my inbox. I'll describe the factors we use to recognize true value in gemstones.

Peter, I'm glad to see you again. I'm waiting for more of your videos. Recently, I also made myself a jewelry bench and bought some tools. A whole new chapter in life begins, the goal is to produce a complete piece of jewelry from the beginning, from gem cutting to metal processing. Best regards .

Now it's a different story XD The growth trajectory of us all is a difficult thing to explain, and sometimes it's not important to explain, but it is critical that we keep practicing. 🎉welcome back! We all missed your videos. I too ❤star corundums. I have 3 small 12-point star sapphires and 1 decidedly non-gem quality star ruby that is about 2 cm across in it’s longest axis. Can’t wait to watch your new videos when they come up. 💎

Engraving is something im.learning. I'm not an artist, never have been, so im praying it's different then pencil, because I love making jewelry.

Engraving is definitely different from drawing with a pencil or pen. Theres definitely a learning curve, but it may actually help you with your drawing aswell, because the process requires you to think about lines and curves in their most basic elements. Best of luck ~

spessartite and spinel (especially gray spinel) are SO gorgeous and imo not nearly enough people are aware of them - even just consumers, not people who are in the jewelry or related business.

The cure for imposter syndrome is practice practice! I have no idea if that's true. Welcome back Master Peter. Us schmucks see you as an expert so there is that. I'd like to see your graver and vice setup. That's a field I haven't started yet but it's on the short list. Lucy Walker is a great teacher, in fact you both are.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm finding that the cure for imposter syndrome is sitting down and having the necessary conversations with ourselves first about where we are in our own development and where we hope to go. The solution is really about setting a clear line of what is acceptable and pushing yourself to get across it. Sometimes though, we're already across that line, but we didnt recognize it because our definition was too ambiguous. Anyhow ~ this next stage is about dealing with all of that.

@@GemologyforSchmucks I have learned more about gemology from you than from any other single online source. There is a lot of forethought into each production, a sign of experience. I'm going to start intaglio/cameo carving before I start engraving metal but I like to build up a knowledge base before investing money and time, integrating new skills as layers. The gem and jewelry trade is fascinating, more than I would have imagined.

By the way, the star sapphire and star ruby(reddish purple) that i purchased from you...I took to a well known PHD gemologist and appraiser ( she is associated with IGS) ...she graded the stones and appraised them at (wholesale) values above my purchase price ! Thanks again for all your efforts and help!

Cheers William~ thank you. Star corundum (ruby-sapphire) is coming soon. Right now it's just a process of polishing until I feel the story flows truly. I even spontaneously bought two new pieces today XD Funny what you're able to see when you start to look with different eyes.

Its really hard to pick, but I also love corundum in all its varieties. Without a doubt, spessartite and corundum both catch my eye continuously.

yes - you are correct, and its driven me near mad aswell. After refilming 7+ times, there was another interference betweeen my microphone and my solarplexus button. My solution will be to get a different lav-mic as long as folks receive this new chapter with the channel. I apologize for the annoyance.

Imagine my frustration having filmed it 4-7 times over separate days, and to spend hours editing the segment and then to know I got the story right... but the technology wrong XD. "Exasperating"... let's say.

To me it seems that people like to pay an intuitive price per carat. I have the impression that very many stones get sold for either around 10€/ct, 100€/ct or 1000€/ct, with significant quality issues reducing the price by a factor of 10.

In the gem market it is far from that straight forward or predictable. The quantities available of a given quality, and the amount of demand from buyers internationally have the most impact.
