I wanted to be heavily tattooed since birth to be honest. But I was clever enough to wait for three things: earning enough money to hire skilled professionals, carefully considering a tattoo for years before getting it, and letting my frontal lobe to fully develop first. I love my skin!

I feel like the whole "what would you look like on your wedding day" thing is quite similar to the "how will you be pregnant, give birth, breastfeed" with body piercings. The detractors are just using major life events and their expectations of you AGAINST your own bodily autonomy.

I think the problem is there isn’t a bunch of representation for tattooed brides. I talked to my parents about this who HATE tattoos and my mom said “why cover them? They are apart of you and you should show up wholly and comfortably on your big day”.

When I got married I had large tattoos on my inner wrists and arms. They cover significant scarring from a su1c1de attempt. They represent decisions I will never regret making, choosing life, even when it's hard. Still have ongoing tattoo work because it's fierce and I love it. I love me and I love the skin I'm in, and I love that it was so beautifully adorned with tattoos on my wedding day.

I'm a millennial and I have seen people my age who normally have a pixie cut and love their tattoos grow out their hair and think of various ways to hide their tattoos for their wedding. And right after the honeymoon, they cut their hair again and went back to showing their tattoos off. I don't get it? So you want to look nothing like yourself on your wedding day because society says long hair, no tattoos and white dress = wedding?

My brother had this problem over 20 years ago when no 'clean girl' aesthetic existed. He oscillated between wanting to be a cool tattooed dude and wanting to be preppy and respectable. Some of us are more changeable and can't just keep one look forever.

My mom watches this Wedding competition show, whenever a woman has tattoos she goes like "Nooo, such a shame! They should cover those up," I'm sitting there thinking the exact opposite, that is THE day about yourself! Makes me a bit sad she feels that way. When you get tattoos for yourself, and you're on a day for yourself, if you can't be yourself there, then what's the point?! I strongly agree with the creator that said these people just dont know who they are. It's like getting a plastic surgery thinking you'll feel better, but if your mind is not OK nothing you do to your body will compensate. I have a hard time empathizing with them because being a tattooed person is one of the only things I have ALWAYS been sure about. It's part of who I am, I commit to big pieces, I pour in the cash. I’m 25 and a decently tatted woman. I’ve been getting tattooed since I was 18 and I still love every single piece I have. In fact, some of my favourite pieces are from when I was 18/19. The only thing I don’t like about being tattooed is the reactions I get from other people-specifically men.

The problem is people jumping on trends in tattoos and not thinking them thru I sit on ideas for tattoos for at least a year or more and wait and see if my mind changes sure I do t have as many as I want but I like or love all my tattoos

I agree very much ith that tiktoker saying they havn't found themselves. They switch aethetics regularly (no shame on being a chameleon) and tattoos simply aren't just an ✨️aesthetic✨️ they are a permanent change to your body you can't simply reverse and that will have consequences to your life. I feel like a lot of tattoo regrets have to do with getting them young and I'm very glad I only started getting tattooed when I was 27. It gives you time to really find yourself and your style, avoid trends and think everything through. I usually sit at least half a year with a tattoo idea (+ placement) before I act on it, except for flash tattoos every now and then. And it certainly helps that I only get tattooed by one artist who I trust fully and who does a great job.

Respectfully, I feel like a lot of people hate them because they just got tattoos to get tattoos without caring about the quality/placement/content of the artwork. You can be elegant and high fashion and look fem (if that’s your goal) with tattoos. They just have to be done nicely and care needs to be put in as to what you get, who you get it from, and where it goes. I know comforting to aesthetic can play a role in disliking your tattoos with certain outfits but that’s when you kinda have to get creative to tailor the aesthetic you. You can create a new aesthetic or just say f it and don’t comfort to anything. As far as tattoo regret, it happens. Coverups, laser and blackouts exist.

I’ve waited for my tattoo. I purposely told myself that if I still wanted the tattoo I want to get when I’m 35 I’d get it. Now it’s going to be my 40th birthday present for myself! (Which is in 18 months time)

Another problem is that people aren't ready for the way their tattoos will evolve in the future. All you see on pinterest is fresh tattoos, fine aesthetic lining, beautiful pastel colors... but these types of tattoos are actually the worst to take care of. Even if you protect them from the sun, regularly hydrate them... the lines will start to smudge and they will look chunkier than on pinterest. The pastel colors will disappear or kind of "blend" together. People don't educate themselves before getting tattoos, they don't understand that their skin changes, so do their tattoos.

The problem with the idea of "women should be clean" is led on by other women. This whole "clean girl" aesthetic is women judging other women. It's not a society thing. Women are just ruthless with each other. I mean, there is no "clean boy" aesthetic. I honestly feel tattoos should be 21 and up. Nobody finds themselves at 18.

I think the one thing you gotta think of when getting tattoos, and specifically the size and style of them is: do I like how this looks when I zoom out? So when someone takes a picture of you, do you still like them. The size, the style, the placement, the colors? Because if the answer is no from far away and yes from closeup, the answer is actually still no. If you like it from up close and far away, you most likely won't dislike them on your wedding day because you'll still feel like yourself that day. I think that's a huge thing that people don't take into consideration: Does this feel like me?

I have wanted tattoos since I was about 5 years old, but grew up in a conservative household and was constantly shunned for it. I felt so ashamed about my love for them, but at 22 finally decided to embrace myself and start getting tattoos. I feel more like myself than ever. I think many of these women have to simply get in touch with themselves and find who they are. I had to unlearn what my traditional family made me think about tattoos and my value as a person. I love my family, but I am SO happy I took that leap and fully embraced myself. That being said, I am happy I didn’t start getting tattooed at 18 because although some of my tattoos ideas are the same, others are VERY different and so full of that teenage angst I can image hating 10 years later😅 Also 🔔 🔔 hehe

I waited to start getting tattooed until I was 29 partially because I wanted to be absolutely certain about what I wanted permanently inked on my body (and partially because my parents lied to me and told me I couldn't be buried in a Jewish cemetery). I’m recently engaged, and just bought my wedding shoes, and one of the things I love about them is it shows off my foot tattoo. Even if someone thinks my tattoos make my wedding dress more informal, who cares, it will be my wedding, and my wedding pictures, not theirs.

Some people are just not meant to have tattoos. I don't mean that in a mean spirited way, I just mean they shouldn't have done it. People who are easily influenced or persuaded shouldn't get them, it only foreshadows unhappiness. I had a mentor tell me to think about my tattoo placement because I might not want them on my wedding day, my reaction was...why? I think any bride is beautiful, ink or no ink. I personally waited to get married before getting large tattoos. I have wanted tattoos since middle school, but I did not want to be heavily tattooed in my wedding dress. Now that I’m married, I’m actually procrastinating getting heavily tattooed because I want to make sure I have the savings, can tip my artist, and do all the research needed. I really want a full sleeve in the future and hope to have it done over the next few years!

29 year old millennial here. I started getting tattooed at 16 (In New Zealand you can get tattooed if you bring a parent/guardian with you) I knew I wanted to be a tattooed, person, but I definitely rushed into it the first chance I could. I got a dozen tattoos before I tuned 20, and I hate every single one I got that young. I didn’t research artists, placement etc well at this point either, and I’ve gotten laser on most of the tattoos from this time. But the tattoos I got after 21? I love them, and wish I’d waited until I knew what I wanted, and what my style was. My 60 year old Mum has tattoos she now regrets, so I think it’s more of a human thing to regret tattoos, than a generational thing. Tattoos aren’t for everyone, and I think a lot of people aren’t figuring that out until they’ve made the commitment.

Just an observation: maybe this is obvious but anyone else notice that a lot of these trend pressures, from getting really tatted to clean-girl aesthetic, tend to mainly be applied to women and femme-presenting individuals? I think this conversation is a good one to have so younger generations can think more seriously about getting tattooed... you're correct in saying people now get them to fit in instead of standing out. I still remember when tattoos were taboo and only devil worshipers got them hahaha. Now it's like everyone and their grandma do. I wanted to be heavily inked for a long long long time, had ideas that I still think would be nice since I was like 12; as it were, I was too poor to afford getting expensive nice tattoos (since I always knew I'd get great artists since I was NOT f'ing up a permanent decision like this) and now I'm 30, and I just... don't care? I'm not bothered by it, and I've seen enough horror stories that I'm fine with not being tattooed. (Like one girl getting her eyeballs tattooed and subsequently becoming allergic to tattoo ink......... nightmare.) If I really want to experience it, I'll get one of those henna InkBox kits and go wild, have some fun for a couple weeks. I think those should rise in popularity so the kids have fun without lifelong regrets.

I can understand the body dysmorphia that might come from some of these people getting impulsive tattoos they regret. At the same time? Buying into the new trend of jumping back into that old proto-faschy worldview that looks down on tattoo’ed people as ‘dirty’ is so gross, and I’d really urge them to step away from that element.

I think a lot of people jump into getting tattoos because of trends without deeper consideration to what it is they are really doing. My best advice is to ignore trends, develop your own personality, and take your time with any modification you do to your body! Doesn't matter if it's a tattoo, fillers, or surgery. Give yourself time to let ideas develop, you'll find that you'll grow out of most ideas and grow attached to some. It's your body, do what you want, but giving yourself some grace will help you make a decision that best fits your personality and life.

It's like a mix of impulse and also planning. They got tattoos not thinking about how it might look on a wedding day but also you can just change the dress to not clash with tattoos if you think it does. Personally I don't think they look any worse with or without a wedding dress on but people who regret tattoos typically seem to think they look terrible with everything, because they regret it. Imo unique art is the perfect reason to get a unique wedding dress and not a traditional one.

Clean Girl is a trend because formally, these girls didn't know about basic hygiene. As a Hispanic-American Gen X lady, I feel bad for these girls who think taking a shower and washing their hair good is an esthetic. Wash your legs, too! Basic hygiene is very important.

I have very prominent self harm scars that are 15 years old and I get the "they will look horrible on your wedding day" all the time. They don't represent me or my mental state at all anymore. I know I will look great on my wedding day regardless but I'd prefer some beautiful tattoos I chose over the signs of an illness I didn't want. I would like to get tattoos over my scars when I have the money for it someday. But either way, people should stop using social media and watching influencers if they feel like this. Just do your own thing. We only have this one life and so little of it is spent young and healthy. Just enjoy the ride and give less of a f about what other people think of you. After years of hating myself I started to actively love myself and my life, only to get very sick physically. Spent so much time in hospital and in surgery and if it taught me anything, it's that life is way too short too agonise over stuff like this so much. What other people think about this stuff is mostly so unimportant

Oooo this video came at the right time! I've been getting tattooed for a couple years now and i've built up a decent collection- and I've realized i'm prone to this type of anxiety. Visualizing how ill look in specific clothing or wondering if I'll now be barred from dressing a type of way, which is ridiculous. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the reasons I feel this way have to do with my immediate environment. I'm in a smaller town in Utah at the moment which is predominately white, and also not tattooed. This is a point of ostrasization for me and I can get lost in the cultural norms of the place im currently in- despite how strong and astute I am in my identity both culturally and personally. I also think who you surround yourself with on a personal level will effect this. Human beings are social by nature so isolation in any capacity can feel quite detrimental. So if your friends or colleagues are not tattooed, you're going to criticize your tattoos and feel like they're the point of contention in a bridge you might feel you cannot gap. But all this to say- im not an impulse tattoo getter lmaoo. I don't really follow tattoo trends and all my tattoos are specific and catered to me. I love my tattoos, and I'm going to get more. But I'm still susceptible to the anxiety or passing regrets- especially if im in environments where there aren't many people that look like me. I feel most myself when I'm around other tattooed women or tattooed WOC, and I'm brought back to center and I have a better outlook on what I personally like and want my body to look like without the noise of outside opinions. But this doesn't really touch on the trend of tattoos and those who cover themselves impulsively. But I imagine the anxiety I can feel for my tattoos could only be multiplied if I had gotten them in the same manner most of these in this video got them. My piercings are apart of me and as my tattoo collection grows- so are they. So I adjust accordingly. If you got tattoos impulsively or extremely young, I can imagine the disdain you'd grow for them. Because you weren't getting them for yourself to begin with, arguably.

Getting tattooed to fit in and then regretting it is their fault and I don't feel bad for anyone who did it. I can't imagine being so obsessed with trends that you fail to see the permanent change you're making to your body.

I called this years ago when everyone was going out and getting the exact same tattoos as eachother. It's nothing but a fad to them and of course they were always going to grow sick of them. Tattooist made bank then, now it's time for the remeovers to make bank.

I would never shame someone else for getting tattoo'd but the whole "wedding dress" rhetoric is why I decided not to get them, aside from a fear of needles. I'm 30 and I've felt this way since I was 20. I just couldn't imagine a pokemon smiling at me in all of my wedding photos on my shoulder. That said, if tattoos are a chronical of things you love in your life I find that very poetic to have those memories with you on your big day, and on display for everyone.

I regret my tattoos, i thankfully only have 4 and can cover them with clothes. I stopped inking 12 years ago because i realised i made a mistake. And i can assure you i definitely know who i am 😂 I think tattoos look nice on other people and i love how you can express yourself through art. However i made a dumb mistake after my baby died at 18 and they kind of became a little addictive, maybe it was the pain because it distracted from other pain.

I have tattoo regrets also. I was 18y for my first I'm 44y now. I do not regret all ( have 14 total) but I do regret the work from certain artists. What I wanted and what I got did not always match. Also having to have different artists finish work because the old artists moved on and can no longer see them has been problematic. I have one larger one I definitely wish I could remove but the cost is way too much for me. At least it's not visible but I'd still wish it wasn't there. I have and always will love tattoos but you don't always get what you wanted in my experience. So only partial regret.

Everyone should be able to get tattoos but I do think that they’ve become kinda trendy these years without people putting any thought into whether if they truly like them or not. Maybe it’s me having a fear of commitment but I honestly plan all of my tattoos for a long time until I’m 100% sure I want to get them. I also feel like there’s a difference between people getting tattooed because it’s trendy vs people getting tattooed because they appreciate it as an art form. I feel like the craftmanship behind tattoos should be emphasized more and people should know more about seeking a quality artist and planning their mods out. Also, not to judge anyone, but I see it way more often with sticker/patchwork sleeve tattoos than with people who have larger, cohesive pieces. Definitely agree people should take their time to decide and to research their artists! I noticed a few of the videos had what looked like lower quality tattoos. It is always worth it to research and pay for a good artist so those lines will still look good in the future!

Hey celle, love your videos. I have a subject you may or may not have covered. In regards to hooking up or lowering the price of a tattoo then charging more on the next visit. Context: So my tattoo artist did a piece on my forearm for $950 in Oct23. Already too much, but I’m happy with it. Months pass and we’ve planned out a new piece even bigger. I tell him my budget is 700-800 max that’s including the tip. He free hands the piece and it’s 750. He decides to go a little further and says an extra 50$ for the extra space so now it’s 800$. It’s a back to back session. Thursday was 10 hours and it’s day two and we’re nearly done after 7 hours and he asks to cover a space of my back and I say sure. We’re now done and he says “honestly bro, I’ll probably charge you an extra 100$… it’s now 900$ flat. I felt like shit but it’s a huge nice tattoo. So that’s back in April and last week end of June I asked for an appointment. He said “honestly bro, I’ll probably charge you more since I hooked you up. It was a fun portfolio piece for me and it should’ve been 1,400$ instead of 800$. (It was 900 btw) So this forearm will be 1,200$.” So a hookup I didn’t even ask for is now my problem?? What should I do in this case? Move on? Suck it up and pay the “full price” and be done working with him? Also just to clarify I was an apprentice for 8 months at the shop he used to work at and where he started his journey less than 2 years ago. So I know changing the price on the day of a session is scummy to do. Now the shops themselves were nice, management not so much. Owner is coke head and wife is a drama queen and other artists there are high off whatever every day. Just another day in the life of any old shop right?? Yeah..
