I’m an old and I honestly think if I were young today, I don’t think I would have felt accepted in goth/emo/etc scenes. When you said “excessively hyper self aware” it really expressed what I don’t like about the tiktokafication of alternative subcultures. In the 80s and 90s, you didn’t have to fit into a sub sub culture box. It was more like “I’m into spooky shit, you’re into spooky shit. Let’s hangout and talk about spooky shit.” There was a freedom then that doesn’t seem to exist today. Subcultures felt like a rejection of acceptably beauty and social standards, where today it’s upholding beauty and lifestyle standards with a color palette swap.

Reminds me of being a kid at Hot Topic laughing at all the anarchy stuff people were buying, as if that's saying fuck the man while paying for stuff including sales tax.

I'm a 47 and still alternative. I was a teen in the 90's and yeah we didn't have the Internet as it is now but this happened then. Fast fashion was making grunge, punk, goth, ect available to everyone. It wasn't as available as it is now but it was there. Actually In my highschool it was pretty normal.

I think the problem stems from discovering the fashion from influencers instead of discovering the culture, music and scene first like we did back then. We were actually curious about the people and the movement behind the fashion and that's why we thought it was cool rather than seeing the clothes and just wanting to portray the aesthetic or vibe or whatever it is.

Doesn't anyone use written contracts? All of this was avoidable.the responsibility for creating the contract prior to work beginning or any money being paid is mutual. These bad experiences would disappear with a dated, signed contract.

🤩. 20:35 That's a really good, beautiful Swallow tattoo. I love it. And that sternum Oriental one is great too. I have a secret tattoo in an unseen place. Only a significant other will ever see it, perhaps, until I die. The tattooist lives in a different country and has never seen the healed result. What was YOUR first tattoo, please Celle?

Celle, if you just take another look, you can see that the Peony tattoo is not on the bicep. It's further down. Look where the arm is compared to the womans body. I think it's on the inner elbow. ❤️

The artform took a nosedive once it became legal everywhere. Back then, you had to really want one and then make a whole plan to get it. Now, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a shop. Everyone and their grandmother have tats. They're not special anymore.

🔥The inside of the mouth heals so well because it's always moist. However, I should think the inside of the vajayjay is a little different. There could be many other bacterias down there which aren't necessarily all good ones. Just gotta make sure it doesn't get a bit skanky, I suppose. I bet it's a lot cleaner than the butt-hole and lots of people get THAT done! 😳 I've never heard any stories about infected butt-hole tattoos yet. Nor infected Holy Hole stories either, come to think of it.

I would argue that emo culture has been performative for years now... every emo I knew growing up was emo online on tumblr but went to school "normal" every day... something to think about re: performing on tiktok as emo vs. a "lifestyle". We found our safe spaces back then and it seems kids are now too. For reference I am 32 and grew up in Boston surrounded by the hardcore / emo / straightedge scene.

💕💕💕 I do think that getting your partners name tattooed on you is like signing a death warrant for the relationship. Even if you are really strong together and think it's a "for ever and EVER" thing, things are bound to go wrong after that tattoo. Matching ones aren't so bad though because no-one else knows it's a "matching" one. And I think Justin Bieber Pants doesn't need to get that little portrait covered or removed because it's not immediately obvious that it's Selena Gomez. It's a bad portrait but it's not a bad tattoo (well, it IS, but it could be a lot worse!), it could be seen as just some woman. We can see that it's a woman. It doesn't have to be a representation of a PARTICULAR woman, it's just "a woman". But if I was one of his tattoos, I would want to get HIM removed! Love your content, Celle. Not just because you are beautiful. 🖤

🕙 Why do people believe for even a second, that tattoos can be removed by anything other than a lazer?!! Tattoos aren't drawn ON the skin, they are drawn IN it. They aren't just on the surface. You don't have to be a tattoo expert to know that! You are so cute, Celle. 🖤

💫 I've only discovered your channel today, but I love it! This video is brilliant, it shows both sides without judgment... I only have a few tattoos, but love them all. Would I change some of them? Sure, but they have a story behind them... And I'll never get them removed. When anyone asks me about tattoos, I will say, imagine your tattoo, put it on the wall and look at it every day. Do you still love it after 3 months? If so, get it done! And also make sure you find the right artist for what you want done... Just because you have a talented artist, doesn't mean they're the right one for THAT tattoo!! I think what you do is fantastic. Raising awareness of both regret and joy... X

Im 28 and I came up in the NJ hardcore scene and I’ve seen a ton of people come and go over the years. I was told by some older guys when I was young that hardcore is for everyone but not everyone belongs and that still holds true. The people who belong will stick around for the long haul and the tourists will show themselves out when they finally get bored. And that goes for all alternative scenes. As for the current landscape, is it any different how kids are finding mainstream bands like knocked loose and kublai khan through TikTok the same way our generation found bands on KZfaq or even MySpace haha? I enjoy your tattoo content but it’s awesome to see your channel heading in this direction as well. Keep up the good work!!!

People do alot of things ultra runners, suspension, its more beautiful to know you will make it after something like that it gives more strength then useing numbing cream and trying to aheive an astetic, less abput vanity of your body more about growth of your soul from something extremely uncomfortable.... seems fine to me not for everyone definitely. Todays society is fragile.

Todays youth arent participating in any kind of meaningful movement because they’re brains have been melted by staring at an OLED screen for 12 hours a day and their whole personality is based on their purchase history. The revolution won’t be televised but it will certainly be live streamed and sponsored by Raytheon.

The online representation of "goth" is currently split in two: "you're not real goths, you don't even listen to the music" and "you're not real goths, you don't even look like it". An interesting phenomenon of chronic onlineitis, because if you go outside to visit clubs, festivals and events, there's luckily very little of that toxicity there. Mostly still just lovely, open-minded humans who don't give to much of a fuck about such nonsense debates

My tattoo removal story! I booked an appointment for 1 tattoo when I turned 18 and made up some quick bs excuse to get a kinda impulsive second one in my first session (I think I said it's my birthday so why not). 'Forever Young' was a very trendy tattoo around this time and I got it, saying 'it means so much to me cause it's all in your head and not your body.. my grandma is still young to me' blabla. Because I was so young and didn't know much about tattooing, the tattoo artist -who usually doesn't do lettering-, did the tattoo and it turned out horrible. The two 'R's that are in the word forever had a completely different lettertype, the G from young wasn't attached to the rest of the word etc. BUT I did not see the tattoo cause it was on the back of my upper neck, not too bad right? Well I obviously took a picture of it, noticed how bad it looked a few days later and I suddenly had the feeling I was seeing it all the time (although I only saw it through a mirror really). I wore my hair over it all the time until I got the money 2 years later to remove it. 10000% worth it. Everyone makes mistakes, so did I! I just happen to get a bad tattoo (my mistake!) instead of a bad car or booking a sketchy holiday for example. The tattoo costed me 70,- and removing it costed me 16x70,- .. you can do the match yourself. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I must say removing a tattoo hurts more than getting one, BUT if you have the money to remove one you don't want or like anymore it's 100% worth it so DO IT. I am very happy I did and you do see absolutely NOTHING in my neck anymore. 🍳

Formally chronically online person here! I am incredibly interested in fashion as well as the development of aestheticism. In our hypermodern landscape (gone are the postmodern days in my opinion!), our fashion sense truly has no function other than connecting metasocially! That isn't to say it isn't extremely fun and fulfilling to dress however we want... but when I was working out in the mountains and backpacking to sober up in my earlier twenties, I could only bring along two outfits. Having to decide what to bring and essentially losing my sense of self solidified how our current sense of fashion is so disembodied from who/what we actually are... yet I am back to my old ways and could never give up my goth looks. Love the nuance in this video, thank you! 🦇

If you look at the extreme nature of the marks that this process leaves on the body and that people who get them seem satisfied (even pleased) to have them, then it is reasonable to assume that these people, and those like them, would be willing to go through the ritual, as brutal as it may seem to most of us. I saw the Vice doc and yeah, Valerio seemed pretty scary. But what you read that he said in other articles makes him seem less frightening, and more "focused." This is NOT anything "I" would participate in, but I find it fascinating.

When the risk of getting a body mod is just you or society not liking it, I don't think it's crazy to go ahead and get it. That's pretty low stakes. When it is a risk to your health, or how well you can function, that signals something very wrong in the head to me. How you look is not more important than those two things, period.
