@@johncoaltrain9485 I think everybody has had enough of fancy intros and low budget 3D logos made from Blender tutorials.....Like your video, people who just get to the point and share their information (freely as well) is always a very welcome break. Even if it isn't from a KZfaq Star! Your still a Star.

Really like your stencil method. But worried about lot of weight with that thick wood.
@johncoaltrain9485
@johncoaltrain9485 4 жыл бұрын
Boy Meets Bush ya. It adds a hundred pounds or so. But I compare it to throwing one of my kids in the back- or an extra cooler. There are definitely ways to cut down on the weight. That just wasn’t my priority on this one.

@@johncoaltrain9485 Cool. I replaced by store bough drawers weighing 150 Lb. I build mine with 1 inch square aluminum tubes connected with plastic connectors. Weight is a big issue for me to keep below GVM. Learned a few tricks from your build Really well done.
@chadg7196

John. Awesome build. I'm also looking to building the same thing but also into a bed converter. Do you feel you've compromised alot of storage space with the 2x8 wood as the foundation? In terms of using ply wood, some folks say you can get away with 3/4 ply wood.
@johncoaltrain9485
@johncoaltrain9485 4 жыл бұрын
Chad G I tend to “overbuild” just about everything. 3/4 ply would probably get the job done, but I didn’t trust it for putting 200# drawer glides in. 2x8s gave me the height I needed and only ate up a little bit more space than 3/4ply. (Mathematically, I think you’re losing exactly 1/2 cubic foot of storage space going with 2x lumber instead of 3/4ply.)

Great video thanks for sharing. I am trying to do something similar with my GX. Do you think 1x12s would be strong enough, or should I for sure get 2" wide pieces for the frame? Also have you had any issues with sturdiness not using a platform base? I see a lot of people use another sheet of plywood underneath as well.
@Psilocy-ben
@Psilocy-ben 3 жыл бұрын
Also do you ever have any issues with the drawers sliding around or making noise when on bumpier terrain?
@johncoaltrain9485
@johncoaltrain9485 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to overbuild everything at the cost of a little extra weight. If you want to go with 1x12s, I doubt you would have issues. My biggest concern wasn’t the top load but the attachment points for the drawer glides. Hence the thicker material. And no- I have had zero sturdiness issues. With the bolts pulling the platform down tight to the luggage D rings, that platform becomes a rock.
@johncoaltrain9485
@johncoaltrain9485 3 жыл бұрын
benoblest No issues with the drawers sliding around or making noise. If you take your time and make the drawers this right size, it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Adding the locks also keeps them from potentially moving in and out that 1” during travel.

Carpet’s held up really well these last few years. I don’t know anything about that other type of carpet, but this stuff has treated me well and was pretty cheap.

@johncoaltrain9485
@johncoaltrain9485 3 жыл бұрын
Not off the top of my head. I just built them to fit. I imagine everyone’s build might be a little different based on lumber, materials, etc. I can measure mine and send them to you, but I’d hate to give you a solid number that didn’t fit your build.
